PUNTABULOUSLY PEEVED

Has anyone seen the new commercials for the movie Pride and Prejudice? If so, then you may have noticed that the song playing in the background is “Collide” by Howie Day. Now, while I do enjoy that song, it sounds completely ridiculous in the context of the movie. Are they trying to sell it to the young, hip teenager crowd? I’ve read good reviews for the movie so far, and I hear that it sticks pretty close to the original book, but whoever made the commercials sucks. Stop trying to dumb down your audience by making the movie seem like a silly teenage love story.

Rant over.

As a (now drunk, as of 830pm, Greenwich Mean Time) member of JASNA [the Jane Austen Society of North America], I concur that this newfangled adaptation has us all in a tizzy (us meaning the members of JASNA, as was evidenced by the recent newsletter). Why can’t we all just content ourselves with the exceptional Colin Firth/A&E version, or else buy the bloody book and pretend to be Mrs. Darcy (i.e. ME) without this lame Hollywood drivel… Ohh, but I totally intend to see it, still, Puntabulous, yes.

I must amend the earlier post, as I just chatted with this British girl who’s seen it, and she said she quite liked it. No Colin Firth version, mind you. But respectful.
