PUNTABULOUS GET’S TAGGED

It’s true, I blatantly got snubbed by Shirley. Yes, yes, I worked at a publishing company with her for 3 years, and I get snubbed on a book tagging spree. One might think, “Maybe she just ran out of room to tag you?”. Actually, no, because she tagged more people than necessary already, so why not add room for little old me? Bastard. That’s right, bastard!

Moving on, Nerddd was wonderful enough to remember me. So clearly she loves me more, and I love her more, and we are going to make lots of multi-cultural babies together. We will also toy with the idea of training them as savage killers bent on destroying all people by the name of Shirley, but we still need to iron out those details. Not to mention that me and the Nerddd are also a crime fighting duo, which I have yet to mention on Puntabulous. One day I will go into long detail of how we sexily fight crime as the Mountain Twins: Katie Mountain (A.K.A. Mountain Cat) and Lionel Mountain (A.K.A. Mountain Lion). Harrrrrr!

Anywhoo, here goes:

1. One book that changed your life?
Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. You know how all the media says that Harry Potter is great, because it got young kids interested in reading again? Well it got me (I believe I was 20 and in college at the time) interested in reading also. Now I can’t go anywhere without a book. It’s kinda like carrying around a condom just in case. But in my situation, it’s in case of a long wait in the doctor’s office.

2. One book you have read more than once?
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Dinosaurs: The reason I was a Geology major. I’m just so mad Noah didn’t take them on the ark with him. To think, if only I had been born 6,000 years ago, I could have met those magnificent creatures.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Granted one should pick a longer book to have as your sole source of entertainment on a desert island, I can read that book over and over and over again. It makes me so happy. Plus if I get tired of it, I’ll just fuck a coconut or something. Please note that I do not own this book, so if anyone wants to buy me a present, this is a good place to start.

4. One book that made you laugh?
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris. I know everyone thinks their family is just like his, but mine really is. So stop your lying, you dirty rotten bastard.

5. One book that made you cry?
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien. “I am no man!” gets me everytime. I believe I was on the train when I last read that one, which was slightly embarrassing. But sometimes you just need to give it up for girl power, y’all!

6. One book you stayed up all night to finish?
Sphere by Michael Crichton. Do not hold the crappy movie starring Sharon Stone against this book. You must read it immediately. Crazy killer computer program? Check. Crazy killer squid attacking submarines? Check. Crazy killer unresolved endings that make you wonder? Check.

7. One book that took you too long to read?
The Once and Future King by T.H. White. Way too long to read. Way too good to give up on. Plus it was mentioned in X-Men 2. Hello! Clearly I will do anything Bryan Singer tells me to.

8. One book you are currently reading?
The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. Going through the Chronicles of Narnia (again). I love childrens books. They’re so fun and innocent, and yet sometimes children make the best action heroes. And other times you just want them to get the fuck off your lawn or lower their darn rock and roll music.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?
I love series of books so there are a couple of series I’ve been meaning to read for a long time now, but haven’t yet. The top of my list would either be The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan or the Dragonriders of Pern Series by Anne McCaffrey. As a general rule I like to avoid talking about my taste in books on first dates for reasons such as this.

10. Now tag five people.
No. I’ve been hurt too badly by the tagging process to do it to others.

I heartily endorse Anne McCaffrey’s “Dragonriders of Pern” series. I devoured them in high school, since I was the weird girl who had Magic cards and read Star Wars books.

  2. Sabila says:

    Lionel, I love you.

  3. Polt says:

Huh, what? you can’t use a condom to pass the time during a long wait in the doctor’s office?

  4. Kathryn says:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the book that got me into reading too! I was nineteen with scarlet fever and mono at the same time (how fun is that?) and couldn’t pick up a book or focus on anything to save my life. Then someone gave me that little piece of heaven by J.K. Rowling and I read one page a day (all i could handle) until I finished. It was love at first sight, me and Harry. Of course…he couldn’t actually see me…but that’s just technicality.

Also, here’s a fun tidbit of information. THE GIVING TREE was banned from schools back in the day. Because Shel refers to the tree as SHE and HER Feminists demanded that the book was sexiest because the female tree gives up everything she has for the boy, ahem MEN just to make him happy.

  6. Mike says:

I’m glad to know I’m not the only 20-something year old to constantly reread the Chronicles of Narnia. I was eyeing ‘The Horse And His Boy’ on my book shelf the other day. It may be time…

  7. Allison says:

If you’re into children’s books, you might want to check out The Neverending Story…now that’s one I could read over and over again.

Even better than the book Neverending Story is the song by Kajagoogoo…
