PUNTABULOUSLY RANDOM NOTES

So I have to work today. On President’s Day. The holiest of holy days. Ugh. Anyway, I plan on using that as an excuse not to do a better post. I know you’re thinking, “Well, he usually has to work on Mondays and he still manages to post decently. Why can’t he just treat today like any other Monday?” I have no response to that because you are smarter than me and just proved me wrong. But I don’t care. It is still an excellent excuse.

Instead, I present you with the following random notes:

1) I saw Ghost Rider this weekend. I know, I know. I hate Nicholas Cage almost as much as Tony Hawk (except in National Treasure). It was entertaining and kept me out of trouble for two hours but I wouldn’t say you had to run out and see it. Also, the flaming skull special effects looked terrible. Eva Mendes is HOT.

2) What I would have done to make X-Men 3 better (major spoilers if you haven’t seen):

a) Wolverine shouldn’t have cried when Professor Xavier died. He should have been cold and stoic. Storm should have said something about him beaing heartless, and Wolverine should have responded something like he was just doing his job. Wolverine should ONLY have cried when Jean Grey died. It would have been much more profound if Jean Grey was the only one who could reduce Wolverine to tears.

b) Needless to say, Rogue shouldn’t have taken the mutant cure. She should have shown up on Alkatraz with Angel, and they both should have been more involved in the fight. Having Rogue surrounded by evil mutants, taking their powers and using them against them would have been great.

c) If she was going to take the mutant cure, they could have at least had her and Bobby kiss at the end, rather than that stupid awkward hand holding they did.

d) Did you guys know that McSteamy was Multiple Man? I didn’t. But now I do.

3) I watched the first season of the British version of The Office this weekend. I like the American version better. I missed the random characters you get to know and love in the American version like Kelly, Meredith, Angela, and Phyllis. But Martin Freeman is dreamy.

4) This week’s episode of The Office (directed by Joss Whedon!) was great. Moments of note included (spoilers again!):

a) Kelly yelling at Creed not to hurt the bat, then screaming “Kill it! Kill it! Kill it!” when it started flying around.

b) Dwight strangling Meredith with the black plastic bag. I love Meredith.

c) Pam’s artwork! Michael genuinely loving her drawing of the building! Adorable!

5) I’m addicted to Ugly Betty now. I was hesitant at first, but I have completely given in to its charms. It is such a great show. Not too cheesy and cartoony, but just enough cheese and cartoonage. Henry be mine. Oh, and Charlie from Ugly Betty is also Charlie from Heroes. Silly writers!

6) This week’s episode of Battlestar Galactica was much better than last week’s, but still nothing too great. What I don’t understand is, if the writer’s are just biding their time, why not go back to New Caprica via flashback? There’s a whole year of backstory they can give us. It won’t propel the overall story further, but it would definitely give us something more poignant to deal with rather than crisis-of-the-week episodes. Plus, if Callie and Chief are in an airlock, how come no one told President Roslin? It’s like, totally her favorite activity. Why not just let her have some fun, while giving us viewers the pleasure of seeing them die?

7) I bought the box set with all 6 original crew Star Trek movies this weekend. I’ve only ever seen the 4th one (The Voyage Home) but I’m really excited about laying around and watching them all in order. I know that only the even numbered ones are good, but I had a gift certificate, and we all know I’ve been known to like bad movies. CoughCatwomanCough.

Okay, I guess that’s all. Happy President’s Day!

You hate Nicholas Cage… I hate Kevin Bacon. It’s funny how we all seem to have one actor that we absolutely can’t stand.

2a) Professor Xavier should NOT have died. And Pean Grey should have killed herself. And Cyclops should still be alive too, he’s one hot man to get killed off pointlessly like that.

2c) Have I mentioned I met Shawn “Iceman” Ashmore on the streets of Toronto about 5 years ago or so? Spoke for a few minutes, shook his hand and got his photo. he’s a lil cutie. And like Rogue, I didn’t get to kiss him.

    7) If you’ve seen teh voyage Home, you’ve seen all you need to of the oringial Trek movies. Watch the Next Generation movie where they fight the borg. It’s THE best TREK movie of them all.

    HUGS….

On the subject of X-Men/general superhero show/movie useless knowlege, did you know that Shawn Ashmore has an identical twin who is currently playing Jimmy Olsen on Smallville? I didn’t know they were two people until I looked it up. I like the Jimmy twin better so far. They should have a twin fight, televised of course.

You know, if I was gay we’d sit around watching all of those Star Trek movies you bought while eating ice cream in bed in our underwear. And then you could introduce me to Battlestar Galactica since its one show that I’ve always wanted to see.

First of all, it’s funny that all of your “random notes” were not random at all but instead focused on sci-fi (does Ghost Rider fit in there?) entertainment. Oh Craig.

Just a head’s up on the Star Trek: the one you’ve seen is probably the worst of the six. Hands down, Wrath of Khan is the best Star Trek movie. I would put The Undiscovered Country as #2. I mean, Kim Catrall as a Vulcan is just awesome. Better than Kirstie Allie (sp?) as a Vulcan. Just watched Insurrection last night actually, and it was still pretty good–kinda cheesy and a little too much broadway from Data and Picard, but still good.

The level of geekiness I can attain sometimes really scares the hell out of me. I’m gonna go home and watch Voyager on my tivo.

I’ve had a crush on Martin Freeman for ages. Check out ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide’ — not because it’s great but because he’s great in it.
