PUNTABULOUSLY RANDOM NOTES

I realize I’ve been doing lots of these random posts lately, but I’ve been super busy. Don’t worry, I’ll get back on track soon. Perhaps I’ll even let Natalie Portman, my wife, out of the garage long enough to do a post with me. A music video perhaps? Any song requests? I have a couple in mind.

1) I did another podcast with David over at Moldawer in the Morning. You can listen to it HERE. Perhaps me and Olivia need to start doing Puntabucasts? That could be fun.

2) I watched the first two Original Crew Star Trek movies this weekend for the first time. The first one was pretty dated with all the seventies hair styles and clothes, and it was kinda boring for the most part, but it picked up at the end. I thought the whole V’Ger/Voyager thing was pretty clever. Then I watched the second one “The Wrath of Khan“. This one was a big improvement over the first one. The only thing that concerns me is Ricardo Montalban’s chest. It’s enormous! It’s almost at a Fabio-like level of enormousity. I thought it had to be a prosthetic, but I looked it up on IMDB’s trivia section and it said it wasn’t. I don’t think I believe them though. Look at it! The wrinkles in his neck and the size of his chest just don’t add up!

My favorite character is Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy. He seems to be the only member of the crew with a genuine personality. Can someone buy me a shirt that says “I love Bones” on the front and “Dr. Leonard McCoy” on the back? Then I can wear it in public, and some hot gay nerd will be the only one to get the joke and want to make out with me.

3) This week’s Battlestar Galactica was another stand-alone episode, but it was a definite improvement over the last two. The last five minutes with Starbuck were spectacular. More of that please!

    I’m sorry…

You’ve never seen Wrath of Khan…until this weekend?

    Really?

    Seriously?

Excuse me. I need a moment.

OK… In case you delve further into the franchise, the rule of thumb is: odd numbered Star Trek movies suck. (However, in my rule book, #6 sucked but #7, Generations, was wonderful. I tend to be in the minority with this opinion, however.)

    But…. You hadn’t seen….

    I need another moment.

  2. Ryan says:

I liked “Generations” too! (I own it.) I thought I was the only one.

They’re all pretty good except for “Insurrection,” which was AWFUL (both story and acting. Also, when you farm out the special effects jobs to cheap-ass firms no one has heard of, it shows on the screen.) I remember leaving the theater feeling cheated and used.

  3. Craig says:

I love “Generations”! I still get weepy when Captain Picard wakes up on Christmas Day in the Nexus.

  4. Colleen says:

Puntabucasts would rule! I’m dying to hear what Super Viagra, Evil Bunny, and Cupid sound like.

  5. G says:

I was just wondering if in the future on Star Trek, assuming that the future is where Star Trek takes place, I am completely unfamiliar with the likes…. will words like ‘enormity’ be replaced by words like ‘enormousity’? If so, they, Star Trek, can have the future, my capacity to learn new words has already been exceeded….
