Hmm… so very close, but I’m declaring this one for Craig on the strength of his evolutionary picture alone. Even though it’s one of the 7 deadly sins.

David said in January 21st, 2008 at 7:35 am

Craig wins based on the Waiter picture. Hell yeah, I’d like a Jumbo plate of cuteness please, extra spicy. Yum. :)

superblondgirl said in January 21st, 2008 at 9:13 am

Sorry, Craig - Cookie Monster all the way. Grover is an annoying goody-two-shoes, while Cookie has some soul.

JP said in January 21st, 2008 at 9:26 am

your both wrong. Oscar The Grouch is by far the best. Because he’s green and he doesn’t care what other people think of him, he just gives them what he thinks without being afraid of having to side step the issue

Avitable said in January 21st, 2008 at 9:28 am

The evolution picture was brilliant.

john said in January 21st, 2008 at 11:23 am

The greed, lust and evolution bit was hysterical, but I’ve got the give it to Michelle. Who doesn’t like cookies?

Howard said in January 21st, 2008 at 12:15 pm

The pictures absolutely made this one. Whoduh thunk that you could get so much material out of two similar looking muppets? :)

Rachel said in January 21st, 2008 at 12:50 pm

I think you both rocked~ Great job..Love the debates~

sue said in January 21st, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Finally, one I can go with Craig on.

BeRightBack said in January 21st, 2008 at 1:29 pm

I love the waiter picture, where it looks like you’re telling the customer, “You want cookies? Here are some ingredients! Make them your own damn self. PS: I am adorable.”

Almost nothing brings me more pleasure than your Guest Debates. Thanks for making my day!

Polt said in January 21st, 2008 at 2:35 pm

You’re both wrong, Miss Piggy is the best Muppet. However, I’m siding with Craiggers on this one. I mean, any guy that can wear a bow tie and STILL look sexy and delicious has got MY vote!

HUGS…

I declare a tie in the blue furry muppet war — I think it’s just too close to call!

Hayden said in January 21st, 2008 at 6:00 pm

Based on this wonderful debate I must declare Cookie Monster the winner. I had high hopes for Grover but after listening to both sides it is clear that the passionate and rational case for Cookie Monster has swayed me to the Cookie side and I must say that is a side I am happy to be on. The letter of the day is H for Hayden!

Julie Pippert said in January 21st, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Oh kudos to you both…the photoshopping was bar none!

I have to hand this one to you, Craig (sorry to your cousin Michelle who argued well)…mainly for the evolution and “one man’s delusional is another man’s optimistic” points.

marty said in January 21st, 2008 at 6:44 pm

Grover was always my favorite, so I vote Craig.

And how do I make a dinner reservation at Chez Craiggers?

ChrisNJ1977 said in January 21st, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Both Michelle and Craig did a great job. However I would have to say that Craig won me over. Sadly, Grover’s computer support is actually more effective than some IT people I have worked with. ;)

My favorite muppet has to be Kermit. He is such an earnest pragmatist!

BTW: I love Craig’s waiter costume. Handsome and dashing, look out James Bond! Bow ties totally rock.

I was having a really difficult time deciding which of the two arguments to go with. I have to say, I was leaning toward Cookie. THEN Craig had to go and say, “Besides, no one should be proud to be a monster!” and I fell over onto Cookie’s side with a VERY loud HUMPH.
No one should be proud, indeed. I am astounded to find that Craig believes that we monsters should hide who we are, ashamed and cowering in dank dungeons praying for a little love and perhaps some cookies.

And, BTW, Grover does refer to himself as a monster. He’s not loud and proud like Cookie, but a monster nonetheless.

Grover!Grover!Grover!
Not Obama! Not Huck! Not Romney! Not Hillary!
GROVER!GROVER!GROVER!

Jum said in January 21st, 2008 at 11:21 pm

K. I used to love both these monsters. [And I think they are probably both proud to be monsters] Cookie however was a wee bit forward for me and I preferred the more restrained nature of Grover. I would consider myself a ‘grover-acting’ monster, but with cookie tendencies. Jum.

Zandilar said in January 21st, 2008 at 11:38 pm

Does anyone recall grover in the book “There is a monster at the end of this boot”… and it turns out to be him?

Only proof of why I dislike grover. Sorry craig. Like Michelle, I got a Cookie Monster for a b-day or holiday - can’t recall. Just that thing went EVERYWHERE with me. Some kids had blankets or teddy bears.. I had Cookie Monster!

Alli ~Mrs. Fussypants said in January 22nd, 2008 at 12:54 am

Do you get tired of me simply saying, “I just love you!”

Craig, you are just too adorable!

Mwah!

love, Mrs Fussypants

I just love these debates. This one was absolutely hilarious. I loved grover so much I named one of our childhood dogs after him. But then he chewed through a baseboard, the cord to the refrigerator, and the middle of the living room carpet, so he had to go. Still, I have a special fondness for him.

Annonomoose said in January 22nd, 2008 at 8:50 am

I have to say, both Craig and Michelle have done a fabulous job. The “evolution” pic was sheer genius - however, being a completely partial observer - I give my vote to Michelle. I have to say- the pic of my grandson - won me over :)
Great work!

we_be_toys said in January 22nd, 2008 at 11:08 am

Oh, hands down, it has to be Cookie Monster who is the best muppet. Until that miserable Elmo came along, Grover had it sewed up to be the most irritating muppet of all time - now he’s second, and virtually a nobody, living on residuals from Sesame Street, in a NYC slum.

Cookie has always had that IT quality - part savage/ part urbane socialite. Consider the many stints he did as Kermit’s sidekick, where he ate the cardboard letters - that was the work of a comsummate actor (alphabet letter DO NOT taste like cookies), and as Michelle pointed out, his job as host of Monsterpiece Theatre was classic; no one even remembers that Alistair guy who did it before him anymore.
outside of Cookie Monster, the only truly gifted monster muppet was Animal; a gifted though deranged creature who nonetheless provided a righteous backbeat to the groovy sounds of Dr. Teeth And The Electric Mayhem.

Vodka&Crackers said in January 22nd, 2008 at 1:29 pm

nothing to do with this actual post, just the blog in general
(Although Cookie wins by a brief margin)

I have spent a day off sick today reading the archives of this blog and I just want to sayyou managed to make a sick girl laugh out loud at most posts, you really brightened up my otherwise crappy day!
Happy Tuesday!

No no No! The best Muppet is Abby Cadabby!

…lord knows they’ve been pimping her like a $2 whore

:)

I’m shocked no one did the Big Bird vs. Snuffy debate.

Oh, wait. Now I know. Never mind.

David said in January 22nd, 2008 at 6:48 pm

Oh my God. I love this feature. Genius. I have to side with Grover, as my Grover doll at home would attack me in my sleep otherwise.

Crazy Lady in Vegas said in January 22nd, 2008 at 8:00 pm

If I have to choose between the to, then it will be Cookie Monster, because, um.. hello! COOKIES!

But really, I’m quite sad that Kermit got left out in the cold on this one. I guess thats why he says “It ain’t easy being green”

Andy McEntee said in January 22nd, 2008 at 9:24 pm

This was a really long debate, and I got distracted half way through but I am assuming that it ended with everyone agreeing that Elmo is the best muppet. In case you missed it, Elmo made a guest appearance on my 100th episode.
When was the last time any of those other furry freaks went out and helped build a house for children with dead parents!
Thats what I thought. On that note I want to do a debate with you sometime.

a different craig said in January 26th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

Oh Craig! You had it sown up until you insulted Aquaman. Maybe I’m a water-nerd or ocean-geek, but Aquaman rules. Based on that alone, I would happily give the win to Michelle…if you weren’t both wrong.
Best muppet ever? Animal.

Nicky said in February 2nd, 2008 at 3:27 pm

I have to go with the Cookie Monster since Heidi Klum apparently finds the need to emulate his look…
