Netflix #9, Netflix #10, and 10,000 B.C.

Two things:

1. It would appear that I failed to consult your recommendations when I added the following movies to my Netflix queue. I’ll try and be better about that.

2. This is a special note to Nick: Waitress is the next one on my Netflix queue. So you can stop leaving flaming bags of poop in the comment section about how I’m ignoring you. I still love you though.

Netflix #9 – Blades of Glory – Suggested by No One

It’s hard to review a comedy. Like, what am I supposed to say? The cinematography was incredible! But I really did like this movie. It was a whole lot of fun. And yes, they were both being the same characters that they always are, but whatever. Any movie that vaguely makes fun of Johnny Weir is okay in my book.

Netflix #10 – Superbad – Suggested by No One

I wasn’t crazy about this one. Maybe I heard too many great things about it? I mean, does it really deserve a 87% rating on RottenTomatoes? Doubtful. But in it’s defense, I’m sure it’s a lot better when you’re watching it with a group of friends or in a crowded theater. I was watching it alone in my room. Sigh. I did enjoy seeing Jonah Hill get hit by a car several times though. Oh, and McLovin was funny. But in an amused kinda way, not really a laugh out loud kinda way.

10,000 B.C.

Firstly, how can this be titled 10,000 B.C. if the Earth was created by God (after being intelligently designed in his high tech super laboratory) only 6,000 years ago? That doesn’t make any sense! I kid, I kid. After this was over, I turned to my Dad (yes, I go to movies with my Dad) and said: “I enjoyed it. But I don’t want to tell anyone I enjoyed it.” It was completely idiotic, but a lot of fun too.

“It was completely idiotic, but a lot of fun too.”

Reminds me of reading your blog.

    LOL!

Superbad was awesome! It was smart, avoided most cliches, and felt like it could (for the most part) really happen.

  3. polt on March 12, 2008 at 8:25 am

I think Superbad was outstanding…course I did watch it with a group of friends, after several beers and glasses of champagne on New Years Eve…

And frankly, I’d be more worried about telling people I went to see the movie with my dad, than be worried about liking the movie. :)

    HUGS….

“Super Blades of Bad Glory”: The story of two estranged friends who try to get laid during a skating competition (like, *during* the competition). The part where the one guy compulsively draws figure penises in the ice is priceless.

  5. justin on March 12, 2008 at 8:52 am

aww, its cute that you go to movies with your dad.

  6. Nick on March 12, 2008 at 9:13 am

Woo Hoo! You’re finally getting Waitress. Of course, now I’ll be all nervous that you will hate it…hrrmmm.

    It’s just a sweet little movie :)

  7. Craig on March 12, 2008 at 9:39 am

Feyrbrand – I’d be offended if it weren’t true.

    Nick – Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll like it.

  8. The Mom Bomb on March 12, 2008 at 11:21 am

I’m with you on Superbad. Although the scene where Michael Cera has to sing was priceless.

Don’t you be dissing the Jewish calendar.

The most striking thing I’ve noticed from the trailers for 10,000 BC is that apparently ancient mankind waxed their chests.

Craig I totally agree about Superbad. Its ok, but I don’t get why everyone loves it SO MUCH. And the fat guy is revolting, total bullshit about him hooking up with that hot chick at the end.

  11. Craig on March 12, 2008 at 11:50 am

Claudia – I whole-heartedly agree! How is that guy famous?

  12. Jere on March 12, 2008 at 12:07 pm

I enjoyed it. But I don’t want to tell anyone I enjoyed it.”

I had the same reaction to Jumpers.

I agree with you on Superbad, it didn’t blow me away. Although when I drunkenly confessed to my best friend from high school (while trying to fall asleep side by side with him) that I loved him… let’s just say things turned out a little differently, but not in the good way.

Is Nick the one who keeps trying to get you to watch Hot Fuzz? If so, Nick – I hear Simon Pegg has a new movie coming out, and have you seen Shawn of the Dead yet?

  14. Nick on March 12, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Yeah, that’s me. He actually has Hot Fuzz. So, I called off the dogs on that one. :)

Simon Pegg has a couple movies coming out. One he created called Run Fatboy Run (though I’m a bit bothered that David Schwimmer is the director), and he is Scotty in the new Star Wars.

    I find Simon oddly attractive…for a ginger. :)

  15. Brett on March 12, 2008 at 2:51 pm

I disliked Blades of Glory and liked Superbad. George Michael’s in it and you didn’t even mention him. Michael Cera is adorable.

Nick – you really have a thing against ginger’s don’t you?? I see how it is.

  16. Brett on March 12, 2008 at 2:55 pm

***Correction about Blades of Glory. Screw Will Ferrell and that Napoleon Dynamite dude – Nick Swardson was HILARIOUS.

  17. NefariousCarrot on March 12, 2008 at 2:58 pm

I had the same experience with Superbad, although I saw it with a bunch of friends while it was playing in theatres. I chuckled a lot at some of the awkwardness — e.g. “that’s funny because my back is on my c**k” — but I really think the two cops storyline tries too hard to be crazy/funny. (Ditto on the McLovin’ amusing funny, not laugh-out-loud funny.)

  18. Craig on March 12, 2008 at 3:18 pm

Nick – Be careful what you say about gingers. Brett is hot!

Brett – Agreed about Nick Swardson. He’s also hysterical as Terry in Reno 911!

  19. sue on March 12, 2008 at 3:54 pm

I love Nick Swardson. His scenes in Reno 911 feel like total improv. And I think he wrote or helped write the screenplay for Malibu’s Most Wanted, one of my guilty pleasures.

  20. Maggie on March 12, 2008 at 4:26 pm

I agree with you, I was not crazy about Superbad. I figured maybe I was just too old…and that made me depressed. I did, however, enjoy Waitress – a lot more than I thought I would.

  21. GoKitty on March 12, 2008 at 4:43 pm

I heard Waitress was horrid from my roomie so I never bothered to watch it. I dont care if Felicity grows her hair out, she’s still a bad actress.

  22. digkv on March 12, 2008 at 7:39 pm

I was crazy about Superbad if only for the fact that George Michael had spermicidal lube in his pocket. Also Kitty, Keri Russel is amazing in waitress. I really have to recommend the horror film “the Descent” which is what I’d say is the best recent horror.

  23. Anna on March 12, 2008 at 9:58 pm

Yeah, I didn’t really like Superbad either, and I thought I really would. But I thought the same thing – I probably would have found it funnier if I were in a crowd as opposed to watching it at home alone.

  24. Jum on March 12, 2008 at 10:47 pm

    K. Know nothing about the movies you’ve just mentioned, but am intrigued by the debate about Simon Pegg’s ginger-ness. a) wasn’t certain he was ginger, b) he is obviously a god no matter what. Hot Fuzz is fantastic as is Shaun of the Dead. This may be a biased opinion having lived in both London and the Southwest, but give them a try. If you like them, then you might like Spaced (think it is still available on youtube). Is a bit of a slow burner, but well worth the wait. It’s basically TV produced by nerds with an eye for visual referencing, kinda sad, but cool at the same time. Jum
