Bride and Prejudice

Those clips I posted yesterday may not have painted Bollywood films in the greatest light. To make up for it, I’m posting a clip from my favorite Bollywood movie (okay, the only Bollywood movie I’ve seen) Bride and Prejudice, a Bollywood version of Pride and Prejudice. This is my favorite part, when Lalita (Lizzie), Jaya (Jane), Maya (Mary), and Lakhi (Lydia, there is no “Kitty” character) all sing about the loser Mr Kohli (Mr. Collins) who came to town to propose marriage to Lakhi and states that for him, there is “no life, without wife”.

And here’s the trailer:

I confess, I had no idea that there were Bollywood films entirely in English. Why did I not know this? I feel like a whole genre has suddenly opened up to me.

OMG! I totally *heart* Bride and Prejudice (yes, I own the dvd).

I love Mr Kholi. He’s my favorite Mr Collins in all versions of Pride & Prejudice, I think.

You should watch Monsoon Wedding. Great film imho.

Haha I love this movie and I listen to the soundtrack like almost everyday. And isn’t Aiswarya like absolutely gorgeous? I’m so glad I’m not the only person to like this film; and it’s a pleasure I feel no guilt over: take that film snobs of imdb.

Yea, after the flat footed flying in yesterdays post, I was going to suggest B&P for much better “Bollywood” stuff. I’ll also reccomend Monsoon Wedding and Bollywood/Hollywood and Bend It Like Beckham, for Bollywood in English . “Beckham” isn’t actually Bollywood, just damned fun and sweet and you can see the Bollywood nods in it. And they do break in to song in the extras on the dvd. Ella Enchanted was on tv late on Friday night, I had forgotten the “giants wedding” was pure Bollywood.

Anyway, we ALL keep telling you to netflix Season 1 of Torchwood, season 2 is even bettah. And I still totally dig David Tennant as Dr Who, also on BBC. But my fav tv show, other than LOST or Heros is BBC’s Robin Hood, Jonas Armstrong is just edible and the stories are fun.

Craig, if you ever want to see some really good Bollywood stuff, I’d be happy to suggest a few films. Netflix is a really good resource. B&P is a great first step…into a larger world…
