1. First off, go to this website called Stuff Queer People Like. It’s kind of like that other website about white people, but not really. It’s run by the same people that write GayCondo, the bloggers who debated Wine versus Beer with me. My favorite is the “Off Color Humor as Told by Awkward White Woman”. We love us some Amy Sedaris.
2. Brian challenged me to read outside my normal science fiction genre. I’m currently reading his recommendation Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal. It’s really great so far. I’m laughing on the train, which is a sure fire sign to my fellow commuters that I’m crazy. He offered to read any science fiction novel of my choosing in return. I spared him from reading my favorite Star Wars novel and instead opted for him to read Sphere, which is the best Michael Crichton book out there.
3. The season premiere of Battlestar Galactica last friday was fantastic. Sarah voiced some concern when I said I was going to a viewing party that people might talk during the show. But Meg (at the suggestion of Lance who sadly was unable to attend) was genius enough to bring index cards (with the corners cut off) so we could write down our thoughts as the show was on and discuss our thoughts during commercial breaks and not forget what we wanted to say. Oh, and Michelle made awesome snacks and has an awesome apartment and needs to start an equally awesome blog. Oh right, the show! Yes, the show was awesome. I was so happy to have it back. I love the way they’re handling the final five mystery. It’s an interesting concept knowing that you’re a cylon and knowing the possibility that you could be a sleeper agent. I’m sure it will lead to some interesting storylines dealing with free will. And I loved when Starbuck said: “If you were a cylon, I’d put a bullet in your head.” Fantastic. I love her. Oh, and I don’t believe Ron Moore about the final cylon not being in the Last Supper picture. I think he’s lying to throw us off the scent.
4. Netflix #17 - Dan in Real Life; and Netflix #18 Flags of Our Fathers - I’m not giving these reviews their own post since no one recommended them, and they were pretty mediocre. I was unimpressed with Dan in Real Life, but in it’s defense, I was slightly tipsy and not paying attention because my blog started freaking out so my focus was elsewhere. But would I have been as easily distracted if the movie was better? Perhaps we’ll never know. I know Flags of Our Fathers is pretty random of me, but I’ve wanted to see it since it was out in theaters. It was good, but such a bummer of a movie. Who knew the Battle of Iwo Jima was such a downer? Plus it kept jumping around in time and all the secondary characters kinda looked alike so I couldn’t keep up with who was who, which was pretty annoying, and I wasn’t even tipsy!

I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but Amy Sedaris is shilling for Microsoft Office or Outlook or something like that- I saw the online ad today and it was great. It involves cake, and yes, bunnies. Slightly more tame than the Amy we know and love, but more entertaining than the average commercial, for sure.

I agree that “Sphere” was a great book. There were moments that you had to suspend your disbelief, but it was fun as hell.
Um, not that hell’s really all that fun. Or so I’ve heard.
And Stuff Queer People Like is a riot.

“Lamb” is a funny book, but gets really heavy at the end.
I would highly recommend other Christopher Moore books as well. He has a book about Vampires, along with a follow up (”Bite Me” and “You Suck”), and a book about Death, “A Dirty Job.” They are much better!!

Agreed…LAMB was a fun book. JoshB. is right, it does get a little heavy at the end, but overall, very enjoyable. I have YOU SUCK on my bookshelf and will get to it soon.

“Iwo Jima was such a downer” is an understatement, if you’re basing it on Flags. If you truly want to be depressed by Iwo Jima, Netflix Letters from Iwo Jima.
I think I would have liked Rabbit Rescue better had the ad for it on Facebook’s Scrabulous page not melted my brains first.

Is it just me or were the index cards a little over the top? It probably is me, I used to Hate “Discussion Groups” in college.

That was an excellent episode of BSG. When Anders got scanned, and his eye changed, I thought maybe he was going to come back and be on the Cylon side. He might be, I guess, now that I think about it.

Did you know that there are full episodes of Battlestar Galactica available free on hulu.com?
This website is my favorite new obsession - I’ve been working my way through watching the entire series of Arrested Development. I was one of the idiots who didn’t watch it when it was on TV and now I’m wondering what the hell was wrong with me.

Stuff Queer People Like is made of the awesome.

I agree with the other posters who are saying read some of Christopher Moore’s other books. They are way better. My favourites are A Dirty Job, Bloodsucking Fiends, and You Suck (The sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends).

Great book choice! My husband is reading that and I keep telling him to hurry up so I can finish it. I read the first few chapters one day. Don’t ruin the ending.

I enjoyed all the Christopher Moore books mentioned, but really loved The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror.
Have you seen the movies Hot Fuzz or Sean of the Dead? I recommend those for your Netflix list.
Page 3? Still?
Love you Craig!

I love LOVE Amy & David Sedaris! LOVE! … I just seen Dan in Real Life last night and I have to agree with you, I wasn’t that into it either.

Dan In Real Life wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. Steve Carell was good as was Juliette Binoche. I will also say Dane Cook wasn’t horrible in it.
I second Michelle’s recommendations of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

I’ve seen both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. In fact, I own them on DVD. Both great movies! But I think Shaun of the Dead might be a bit better.

A note to K.K.
You can buy ALL three seasons of Arrested Development on DVD for under $50 bucks at Amazon! Great show!

BSG was awesome! What a cliffhanger!

“And I loved when Starbuck said: “If you were a cylon, I’d put a bullet in your head.” Fantastic. I love her.”
Really? I felt like the premiere would have been stronger if Starbuck was randomly missing.. and never came back
: )
