Star Wars: Legacy of the Force - Invincible came out yesterday. It’s the last book in the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series which tells of the fall of Jacen Solo (Han and Leia’s son) to the dark side. I’m currently 2/3’s finished with Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal and I hate stopping a book in the middle (especially since I’m enjoying it so much) but I can’t resist reading this immediately. I mean, how could you not want to read something with this book jacket?

I honestly have no idea how they’re going to end this series. You see, Han and Leia had three children: Twins Jacen and Jaina, and the late younger brother Anakin (who I might have fallen in love with, it’s okay to fall in love with literary characters, right?). That’s Jaina fighting Jacen up above in the book jacket. She spent the last book training with Boba Fett (I know!) because who better to teach a Jedi how to kill another Jedi than Boba Fett: Super Jedi Killer Extraordinaire! I find it hard to believe they’ll kill off Jacen because then there’s only one more Solo left, and they’re kinda the main characters of the books these days. Plus killing your brother is pretty heavy stuff. But redeeming Jacen seems highly unlikely also. So I’m excited to see how this will end.
Anyway, these books are awesome and I don’t know why Lucas doesn’t make TV shows or movies concerning the Star Wars universe after the movies. Do we really need another Clone Wars cartoon? What is there left to tell? We already know how Count Dooku and General Grievous are gonna meet their end, so obviously they’ll survive. And chances are that Obi-Wan and Anakin will survive the Clone Wars so they can appear in Episode III which we already saw! Oh, and I bet that cute alien girl who doesn’t appear in Episode III won’t survive the Clone Wars. Just a hunch! Check out the trailer for the unnecessary and video-gamish movie HERE.
PS - You just know I’ll see it opening day.

I used to absolutely love the Star Wars novels, but at a certain point, I found that I just couldn’t keep up. So many of them relied on having read others in order to know what was going on and yet they were coming out so often, it was impossible with my schedule to read them all. In frustration — and some despair — I finally gave up. Now, with you, Craig, talking them up so much, I long to get back into them. But is it too late? And at this point, where should I start? I need some reading material for my trip to Boston this weekend, so it would be a good time to pick up an SW novel.

Start with Vector Prime. It’s the first book in an awesome series.

AHHH! I’m reading Inferno right now because i’m horribly behind but you’re right- that jacket is awesome! (especially compared to the one for Inferno, i’m tired of seeing Luke in his 50’s on the cover of books…) I think the best part of it all, for me, is actually being shocked or surprised by something that happens in the story which- for a Star Wars book- is saying something. Can’t wait to get to Invincible!

You’re a huge dork. So I am reading the Republic Commando trilogy, and its awesome. It’s about the dynamics between the the Clones and their Jedi generals. I was truly moved in some parts of the first book, because this Padawan realizes she learns so much from a clone commando that she couldn’t learn from her own Jedi Master, and she becomes a better Jedi for it. In the first book, she never thought she would become a Knight, or even stay in the order, but by the second book she is a General in the Grand Army of the Republic. . . and she’s pregers. . . yeah, how can you not love SW. If I ruined it for anyone, suck it up, there’s still the 3rd book that I havn’t got to yet. But I digress. I have decided I will finish the trilogy before reading Invincible, cuz god knows what the I’m gonna read afterwards. This is a major decision. Read an interesting trailer for Millenium Falcon when I flipped to the end of the book, as I do with every Star Wars novel. Maybe I’ll read that after Invincible. Yes, we need a another Clone Wars series, no matter what.

OK, I was fine with you reading this stuff when I thought you were only dropping $6.99 on a paperback. But I just got back from the bookstore and discovered this is a HARDCOVER! What are you thinking? Don’t make me come over there and have a literary intervention.

Brian F: These books are worth their weight in gold! I’d buy them in leatherbound if they were available!
