Iced Tea

I was out doing yard work. I hate yard work but it was a few years from now and I’m a homeowner so I had to start doing stuff I hate. I hate getting dirty and bugs petrify me. My parents always wondered how I was going to be a brilliant paleontologist discovering the first infant Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton if I was afraid of bugs, but that’s a different story.

After about five minutes of working aimlessly in the dirt I lose interest. I lay back in the grass and stare up into the sky and a thought occurs to me. I pull my cell phone out and dial the house phone. He answers and asks where I am. I tell him I’m in the back yard and to meet me there in five minutes with two large glasses of my mom’s homemade iced tea, which I made yesterday. It isn’t as good as she makes it, but like my attempt at yard work, it was worth a shot. He sighs exasperatedly, calls me lazy, and hangs up.

He meets me out there four minutes later with two cold glasses of iced tea and we lay in the grass talking about the vast importance of nothing. And then I wake up.

It was a nice dream.

    A nice dream indeed, pun’kin.

    HUGS…

A dream now, but a reality sooner than later — hopefully for each of us. :-\

Except my pronouns would be slightly different. :-)

    from OMG Blog!

    Seems appropriate.

It will happen. When it does you will wish it happened sooner, but you’ll know it happened when it was supposed to happen.

Oh, and I’d totally call the house from the yard (though I don’t mind yard work).

I don’t have to wear an apron when bringing you the iced tea do I? Cause if so…no dice.

  5. Amy @ Milk Breath & Margaritas says:

I call my kid and my husband when we’re all in the house.

    Nice dream.

Interesting. Our new cordless phones have a very nice intercom feature that we actually use. And since they’re DECT phones they have decent range too.

But I have no dirt or bug phobias. I’ve gotten dirty, greasy, etc. and it never bothered me.

I think I saw this on a tv show, it was felicity and she was dreaming too about her future life with her at the time boyfriend, that guy that always whispered, he was doing the yard work and then she delivered the iced tea, you sure you didn’t steal this dream?

  11. Burner says:

    Puntabulous Plagiarism? Positively Preposterous!

  12. Craig says:

Don’t listen to him Burner! I’ve never seen an episode of Felicity in my life.

Yard work is not so bad. It has been almost a year since I got my own place, and now I am the master of my grass! ;) But I still don’t have an ice tea retriever. :(

Where did you live in your dream?

  16. FDot says:

What a pleasant dream to have, it brings a grin to me. Though in my version, I’d be having Black Cows.

  17. Craig says:

Mat: It was my parents’ house where I currently live, but it was mine and my parents lived elsewhere.

  18. Sue says:

How are you going to make this happen if you are always inside working on your blog all by yourself?

  19. Ryan says:

Wouldn’t it be better if there were a sexy gardener to do the yard work?

  20. Nicky says:

    Aww. Lovely.
I would have liked it better without the last line. Then it would be a work of fiction. A short short story. In one of my college classes we read short shorts and I love them now.

    :)

Who ever “he” turns out to be, he’s going to be a lucky guy.

  22. Jere says:

I only make iced tea of the “Long Island” variety. Otherwise, can’t really stand the stuff.

  23. Craig says:

John: Thanks for the great video link! I was finally able to listen to it when I got home from work since they block you tube there.

I don’t like pimping other blogs, but I thought the sentiment in the song was nice as well as his performance.

Hang in there Craig. I like to think that when we are searching for love, it is searching for us too. It just takes some time to sort out the directions.

By the way, the singer of that music video is Jay Brannan, Ceth from Shortbus.

I always knew my Southern sweet tea training would come in handy one day. ;)
