Pride

GayCities, a website focused on helping gay travelers know where to go and what to do, has been running a feature for Pride Month (there’s a whole month?) where they ask various members of the gay community about their pride. I’m not really an expert on this whole gay thing, but I was really excited when they asked me to be a part of it. Today they’re featuring me, so check it out!

Their site must be down, I’ll try again later. But about you saying “I’m not really an expert on this whole gay thing”???

What would you rather look at:
    A: Brittney’s infamous crotch shot.
    or;
B: David Beckham’s new underwear ads.

If your answer was B, You Are an expert “on this whole gay thing”.

Checked it out. Nice article and OMG you’re not wearing argyle! Weirdly enough though, when I hover my mouse over your picture, the text reads Frank of OMG Blog.

I got through, and I totally agree with what I think you were saying. Most people will respect you for who you are if you just be yourself in your daily life, not hit them over the head. Nothing against pride parades, but I prefer to parade through life daily, just being my self. Hell, I’ve even got “redneck” guys who accept me just because they know I’m just “another guy”, their comment not mine.

This from a 44 yo who just came out last year. Hah!

Pride is all about respecting yourself “and” others.

I recognize the location of that shot!

    Nice feature and statement Craig.

  7. Jere says:

Congrats. Your celebrity is ever increasing. Soon you’re going to be one of those bloggers who doesn’t have time to read all the comments and never responds to people anymore.

  8. Craig says:

Jere: That will never happen. At least not until I get my Super Viagra and Vagina Girl deal from Marvel. Then you can all suck it.

(Can’t you picture Stan Lee loving Super Viagra and Vagina Girl?)

  9. Mark says:

“Then you can all suck it.” ???

Did you forget who you were talking to?

  10. Nicky says:

“and I certainly don’t need to make changing people’s viewpoints my full time job”
I like that bit a lot.

    And Mark: lol

Congratulations on the feature. That is a handsome photo.

My feelings about “Pride” are complicated. For rather more than a few years I was closeted and homophobic. I had to work through that.

Making real gay friends, and coming to respect those people for who they were (beyond just being gay) helped me overcome my homophobia the most.

Two years ago I went to my first Pride in NYC as a semi-out gay man. Sure there was lots of craziness I could not relate to, but for me, at the time, there was also a feeling of being a part of an accepted community. I valued that then.

On the train home that evening there was a rowdy group of drunken gay kids. They were shooting inflated condoms all over the train and just being loud and obnoxious while waving their rainbow flags all over the place.

When I got off the train I heard a (presumably) straight young couple in front of me say they were glad they “did not have fags like that in their town.”

Pride celebrations have ups and downs. Individuals living with integrity are the best emissaries for the any community.
