Star Wars: The Clone Wars Series

So tonight was the premiere of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. After the less than stellar movie, my hopes for the television series weren’t that high, but like the movie, the visuals and action scenes were enough to keep me entertained for 20 minutes (god bless DVRs). The shorter episodes definitely have an advantage over the movie, by letting things move at a quicker pace. Tonight there were two episodes. The first one dealt with Yoda and a troop of clones trying to evade battle droids on Toydaria while trying to negotiate a treaty, while the second one dealt with Anakin and Ahsoka saving some survivors from a Separatist attack. I enjoyed the first one better because like I said, the second one had Anakin and Ahsoka, need I say more? But the second one did have Plo Koon who is just about the coolest looking Jedi ever.

The dialogue continues to be terrible and silly, especially when the battle droids are involved. Why do they need to talk to each other anyway? Can’t they communicate electronically? But I have to admit there was one moment when one of them made me laugh out loud. As Yoda was slicing through a bunch of them, one of them cried out: “But I just got proooomoooooooteeeeeeed!” and died. It was actually pretty funny. There was also a brief glimmer of awesomeness that lasted for just about 20 seconds, when Yoda asked the clones to take off their helmets to speak with them during a break in the battle. They said it didn’t matter because they all looked alike, but then Yoda said that they were all different in the force and proceeded to give them each specific advice, and the force music was playing in the background and it was pretty great. But like I said, that lasted all of 20 seconds.

The clones actually turned out to be my favorite part of the show. They had pretty cool lines like “Eat laser!” which was cooler than it sounds, and did I mention that I’m a dork? I mean come on. It’s Friday night, I just watched Star Wars, and now I’m blogging about it. My coolness barometer is all out of wack. Also as Plo Koon and the clones were waiting to be rescued, they doubted that the Republic would send anyone to save them, and one of the clones said: “We’re clones sir. We’re meant to be expendable.” which I thought was actually a pretty meaningful bit of dialogue. All in all, it was an enjoyable bit of television and I’m curious to see if anyone else out there watched it and what their thoughts are on it.

I still love you really hard. And if I lived on your coast, I would be there watching it with you… but alas, I’m not.

    In any event, WESS-SIIIIIIIIIIIIDE!

Mat! You spell your name with one t?! Awesome. I once was seeing someone who spelled it that way and I like it.

As for Clone Wars… Am I the only person who watched all the Star Wars movies and now can’t remember a SINGLE thing about them?! I watched them all in one day (when episode III was in theatres) and I have no idea what happened in any of them…

I really really liked the first episode. It was very cool. At first I didn’t like the dialogue of the battle droids, but it kinda grew on me after I got used to it.

I completely agree with you on the high points. I like the shorter half-hour episodes. And I still really like the look of the series. Personally, I have high hopes.

Though I’m liking Ahsoka less and less. :-(

Yes, I’m home alone on a Friday night, watching Clone Wars, too. Am I just as lame? Maybe it’s not lameness. Maybe it’s clandestine cool. ;-)

Is this show shaping up to be one that should be watched on a regular basis? The only Star Wars TV I’ve seen is the Holiday Special *shudder* and it’s scared me off small scale Star Wars.

No Star Wars for me. I’ve never even seen episodes 1-3. Oh well. It was Supernatural and Torchwood for me tonight and I won’t start gushing about how awsome Supernatural was tonight, despite no Sam but I’m really finding Castiel verrry compelling. *fanning myself* Moving on. Oh and Torchwood was good, lots of Ianto tonight Polt, you would have loved it.

So what’s more lame, being home alone Friday night watching hot men or cartoons. Hmmm. Guess you guys win on that front. ;-)

  • By Nicky, October 4, 2008 @ 8:13 am

But is it lame when hot men are home on Friday watching cartoons?

  • By Tam, October 4, 2008 @ 9:11 am

No Nicky, that’s not lame its just plain sad. ;-)

Then get Dave out of the house : P

    The commute’s a bitch Nicky. ;-)

Damn. I was going for fancy sad, not plain sad…

I just finished the first two episodes and will agree that the half hour format is a huge help. The first episode was really good and “Eat laser” was better than it sounds. I love seeing Yoda in action and I like Ventress as a villain.

The second episode wasn’t as good, but wasn’t awful. I can’t stand “Snips” but was relieved to not hear a “Sky Guy”. The droids urk me. I hate the fact that they seem to have personalities and speak, what is the point. I mean other than poor comic relief?

dammit, Tam, they’re not showing any new Torchwood here! I bought season 2 on DVD last week, I suppose I can crack that open and watch some of that, to get my Ianto fix.

About the animated Star Wars….eh, I got nothing. Once again. Sorry.

    HUGS..

Polt: We’re only on season 2 up here so I’m still behind you. You’ve likely already seen it. Apparently Season 3 isn’t coming until spring.

  • By john, October 4, 2008 @ 6:01 pm

I’ve heard Season 3 is returning in the Spring. Sarah Jane Adventures is running right now and I suspect that will end before Torchwood comes back.

  • By Polt, October 4, 2008 @ 9:08 pm

Okay, well the spring isn’t THAT far off. And Tam, the season ender….WOW! What an episode! I couldn’t believe it. I envy you that you haven’t seen it yet. And I’ll say no more so as not to ruin it for you.

    HUGS…

The best Star Wars TV show was The Ewok Adventure. And unless one of the clones in The Clone Wars turns out to be gay, you ain’t gonna convince me otherwise!

  • By Joe G, October 5, 2008 @ 12:00 pm

I’m pretty sure Plo Koon would have given me nightmares as a child, just sayin’!

  • By Dave S., October 5, 2008 @ 6:40 pm

Mr Zebra: I totally remember when The Ewok Adventure first aired! It was a huge to-do. And it was a blast of a movie. I think they ended up making two others.

And if you were a gay clone, would you really want to have “relations” with someone that looked just like you? :-P

  • By Polt, October 5, 2008 @ 11:30 pm

Dave S., if you were a narcissitic gay clone, why wouldn’t you want to have sex with someone that looked just like you? :)

The shorter episodes were better then the full lenth movie for sure. I liked that they showed the compassion the jedi had for the clones. I’ve got to say i really don’t care for Ahsoka in the least. First off, as a star wars fan, i find it hard to believe that a just annointed padawan is as skilled as she is. i saw her fighting greivous in one of the previews??? please, she wouldn’t last a second. But worse is her dialog. its corny and the humor and sarcasm is too much, i swear if i have to hear her say ‘thats my master’ one more time i’ll go nuts. oh, and the droids as comic relief gets old 5 mins in. to sum it up though, its star wars and i’ll watch whatever ol’ george feeds me, who am i kidding?
