Wishing You a Happy Halloween!

Hope you guys have a great Halloween! Stay safe and send me all your Reeses! In honor of Halloween, tell me what the scariest movie you’ve ever seen is! Mine is Event Horizon. It’s such a dumb movie (as if being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson of Mortal Kombat and Alien vs. Predator fame didn’t tip you off) but it still manages to scare the crap out of me. I’ve seen it once and I refuse to watch it ever again. I couldn’t even be in the same room when my friends watched it in college because just hearing it reminded me of how scary it was. “Where we’re going, we won’t need eyes!” EEK!

Bride of Chucky is a great movie. They gave up on horror all together and embraced the ridiculous premise. Fun movie.

Enrico/Nicky: Haha truth is I’m still scared of dolls a little. Stuffed animals I can deal with but no amount of watching Toy Story will ever convince me that living Toys are good; Child’s Play has scarred me way too much.

I really wish a good scary movie would be made, recent ones are just bad remakes of J-horror. And a sidenote, I remember being really scared by Pet Semetary too as a kid. That was a weird freaky movie.

  3. cb

Alien. In space, noone can hear you scream. That movie STILL scares the bejesus out of me.

  4. Tam

Bernd: I am the clown with the tear-away face; Here in a flash and gone without a trace

Can we keep this up for the whole song? LOL

And I hate to say this but I saw that video of Colin Farrel and his ex. I agree, ginormous, no. decent, yes. Ack! I can’t believe I admitted that.

  5. Tam: Agreed. It was a pretty good size, but not like Tommy Lee or Craig or anything.

And on a Halloween related note, I am currently eating my first ever caramel apple. With coconut! Mmmm.

  6. digkv: the Pet Semetary movie is actually somewhat praiseworthy; I think I enjoyed the movie and the book about equally, which can be hard to do. The little boy was pretty memorable and freaky.

Tam & Bernd: In this town, don’t we love now? Everybody’s waiting for the next surprise!

LOVE that movie. Best lines ever: “A pox! How delightful a pox.” And “We’re his secret henchmen and we do our jobs with pride” One of the greatest soundtracks ever and I will be singing all night.

On to Craig: First, I can’t believe it appears no one mentioned the awesome drawing of Super Viagra and Vagina Girl in their costumes. Adorable idea and really well done. (And yes, I may be totally sucking up for Reese’s sharing, but not completely.)

Scary movies…The Shining commercials scared me silly as a kid. Exorcist was scary too, but I have to say that Jesus Camp was seriously disturbing.

  8. Bernd

Tam: I am the wind running through your hair

Trick or treat till the neighbor’s gonna die of fright

I think I’ll run out of scary quotes soon and have to steal from other songs from TNBC. ‘And they call him Sandy Claws’

cb: I saw Aliens first and that had me on the edge of my seat for the whole movie. I saw Alien years later on TV and knew all about the Alien birth at the party in advance, so wasn’t very impressed. Esp. because I couldn’t see most of the stuff during the dark scenes. But I love me some Sigourney Weaver. Total Kick-ass woman.

  9. Bernd

John: You SCREAM, This is Halloween
    Red and Black, slimy green

    EVERYBODY SCREAM
    in our town of Halloween

“We’re his secret henchmen and we do our jobs with pride”
We do our best to please him and stay on his good side

If I were on his boogie list, I’d get out of town

  10. Tam

Enrico: Great line about Craig’s endowment. LOL And that caramel apple with coconut sounds divine.

    “Kidnap the Sandy Claws
    Throw him in a box
    Bury him for ninety years
    Then see if he talks”

Maybe we’ll watch that later. Seems I’m taking my daughter to see Rocky Horror at 9:30. Guess I better get making some toast and get stuff together. Hardly any kids so far. Kind of weird.

  11. Tam: No kids? Good. You can send me all the leftover candy since I’m not going trick or treating this year
    : (
PLUS, that means I’ll finally get some mail! lol

  12. Tam

Enrico: Send me your address. I’ll send you a postcard from France. Give you a thrill. :-) I have about 20 rolls of fruity mentos (full size) left and its almost 8:00. Mentos all around.

  13. john

Bernd: “Aren’t you scared? Well, that’s just fine. Say it once, say it twice, take a chance and roll the dice. Ride with the moon in the dead of night.”

Tam: “Jack says we should work together, three of a kind, birds of a feather, now and forever! Weeeeee!”

We got about 80-100 kids tonight, the bulk of which was from 7:15-7:45. An average year for us. Great costumes: Iron Man, Darth Vader, Frankenstein (who was an infant and adorable) and a bunch of Jokers.

  14. Bernd

    “Kidnap the Sandy Claws
    lock him up real tight
    throw him in the oven
and then turn off all the light”

No kids to our condo so far, we didn’t even buy any candy. In previous years I would take all the left-overs (which was always everything) to the office on Monday and throw it to the locusts (aehh my colleagues).

Tam, I wish I could come to Rocky Horror with you. Have fun

explaining he finer details of male-male sex to your daughter on your way home.;-)… Maybe you can distract her by singing the Time-Warp instead

  15. Bernd

John: ” That’s our job, but we’re not mean
    In this town of Halloween”

Tam and I have moved on:
“I wish my cohorts weren’t so dumb”
    “I’m not the dumb one”
    “You’re no fun”

  16. digkv

Tam: You are one awesome parent taking your kid to Rocky Horror, I wish someone would take me. No one I know even likes the movie haha.

Enricky: You can just buy candy the day after halloween at target or whatever for like half off! It’s amazing. I love going the day after for all the $1-$2 bags of candy.

  17. Tam: I love Mentos!! Send me some for real. haha.

Craig: I’ll believe it when we compare.

  18. And digkv: (why do I always leave you out of my first comment? lol)
That does sound like a good idea. But I don’t have a car on campus with me, so I bet by the time I see a Target the Halloween candy will be long gone.

  19. Michelle M.

    Something’s up with Jack
    “Never says a word
Hope he hasn’t died” (fat kid on a leash, my favorite part of the movie).

Nickey – coconut? eww. more like toenail clippings,
I answered the door 10 times writing this! And I’m running low on candy. I might have to give out raisins or last year’s candy canes. Or turn the lights out and hide.

  20. Bernd

Cause I’m the oogie boogie man
    And you
    ain’t going
    nowhere

  21. digkv

enRicoSuave: Haha i don’t mind at all, It makes me feel special that I have my own comment. Aw but that sucks, without Target I would never get any candy since I haven’t been trick or treating in years due to extreme laziness. I do hope someone gets you some candy.

  22. Tam

Well, Rocky Horror fell through. Sold out and we were there nearly an hour early. Blah. Next year, I have to plan ahead more. You can come with us next year digkv. :-) We saw come cool people in costume though.

I had enough candy left over for 2 kids. Perfect planning on my part. ;-) That group of about 15 teens that showed up simultaneously helped.

Bernd: I think she already has the man-love thing figured out. Kids are smarter these days. ;-) I didn’t plan on getting into the finer details though. Slot A, Tab A. Not sure how that would go over.

Oh, the sound of rollin’ dice
To me is music in the air
‘Cause I’m a gamblin’ Boogie Man
    Although I don’t play fair

John: That’s a lot of kids. We used to get around 80, this year it was 48. Guess my neighborhood is getting older. I only had 4 kids under 6.

Michelle: Coconut …. yummmmmm. Chocolate AND coconut. food of the gods.

  23. Michelle M.

Tam – No. Food of the gods is chocolate and caramel.
Well, I just gave out the candy canes and a fruit roll.

  24. Tam

LOL My daughter was just grossed out someone gave her the little tiny box of Christmas Smarties with “to” and “from” on the back. If she got a candy cane I can only imagine her reaction. One year the kid of a friend of mine came home with a pineapple. A whole pineapple, top and all. Guess someone was feeling desperate for treats.

Okay, how about chocolate, caramel AND coconut. I’ll sprinkle coconut on most anything though.

  25. Michelle M.

A pineapple! Awesome. That reminds me of when I was a preschool teacher and this little boy, Ryan (2 year old) opened up his lunchbox. It had a can of Spaghettios in it. That’s it. And we had no microwave or can opener.

  26. Tam: Almond Joy?!?! MMMMMM

And pineapple?!?! Pineapple and coconut are my two favorite things to consume! MMMMMM again!

  27. Michelle M. – oh my god that is the saddest story I’ve heard in a long time. I can just imagine how sad/embarrassed the kid must have been when he realized he had no lunch. And then of course you think about whether the parents understood the lack of microwave/can opener and if they didn’t know, you can see the parents being disappointed that the lunch didn’t quite work out and then they probably feel like bad parents and now I feel so bad for them. Poor kid. Poor parents.
What if the kid just loved spaghettiOs and the parents thought they were doing the right thing and it didn’t work out? This story makes me so upset.
Maybe my overly sad mood I’ve been sporting today is just affecting me strangely…. X |

  28. And Richard Parker says Happy Halloween to everyone, btw.

  29. Bernd

How’s that for a mix: Chocolate, caramel and some salty nuts.

“It’s much more fun, I must confess
when lives are on the line
    not mine, of course
    but yours old boy
well that will be just fine”

    good night.

I will not check for the one under the bed, with his teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red.

  30. Tam

Mmmm. Chocolate and caramel on nuts. ;-) Delish.

    Night Bernd.

Happy Halloween Richard Parker. Hope you got a Halloween treat.

Enrico: Pineapple and coconut for me too. Guess I should have been born in Hawaii. Pina Coladas anyone? We’ll make your’s a virgin one.

  31. Bernd

Enriconicoenricosuave, that is a fabulous mix, Pineapple and Coconut. Have some Haagen Dazs Pineapple-Coconut ice-cream. That should lift your spirits. If that’s hard to come by, try a virgin Pina Colada. And lots of Maraschino-cherries.

  32. I think all those things are hard to come by on my campus! But I do have some Almond Joy from friends who went trick or treating. That’s something. But I’ll have to find that Haagen Dazs ice cream!

And Richard Parker is crying now since only John commented on how adorable he is!

  33. john

Craig: I forgot Rec which has been remade in the US as Quarantine and Audition out of Japan. Audition is slow, but when it pays off, it pays off.

Bernd, Tam and Michelle: I leave you with: “And since I am dead, I can take off my head to recite Shakespearean quotation. No animal nor man, can SCREAM like I can. With the fury of my recitations.”

  34. Craig! There you are. You always ignore my comparing requests! Shady?!

Do you love Richard Parker’s costume?

  35. Commented over at your place. Love the costume! You are really talented!

  36. Bernd

E, RP is totally cute and I love his pink costume.

I hope that the Almond-Joy helpend and that you have those SpaghettiO-kind-of circle-thoughts not to often. That can seriously bring you down.

  37. Circle-thoughts sounds like a really apt way to describe them, and I actually have them a lot.
People usually just say I have an overactive imagination as I think so deeply into little things and make up long stories in my mind, like background history and what will happen next, and how people feel, etc.

I supposed that’s good for my creative writing minor!

  38. Ya know, we got to about 90 comments…and not one from Dave S. That’s kinda impressive for the rest of us, but I’m hoping everything’s okay with him. Not like him to have some semblence of a real life and not be commenting, ya know? :)

    HUGS…

  39. I was thinking the same thing Polt! I wonder where he’s been. Doesn’t he really like scary movies too?

  40. Tam

Dave has been working on his haunted house/yard all day today. He said its a lot of work. Hopefully he’ll share some pics with us.

Enrico: Richard Parker is truly adorable. Although I’m not sure he’d appreciate you showing off his privates like that on the internet. LOL His costume is so cute.

  41. He’s probably just taking some extra time working on his fitness, which none of us seem to mind.

  42. Michelle M.

Enricearoni: I commented on the ridiculous adorableness of RP. And
don’t feel to bad about Ryan. He was clueless and the rest of the kids “shared” their lunches with him. I think his mom was in a rush, didn’t have to time to pack a lunch and threw the can in his lunch box. It was pretty funny – not traumatic at all.

john: You are spot on about Jesus Camp.

I was wondering about Dave S., too. I’m glad Jason/Freddy/Michael Myers didn’t get him.

Craig – I’m astounded at how few horror movies you’ve seen. Maybe another weekend spent in your jammies will catch you up!

  43. Craig: I’m all for dressing up for other people and all, but a vagina?

    No thanks ;)

  44. The scariest movies are the old Dracula movies I watched when I was “young and not jaded”. Modern scary movies “Saw = Yawn” don’t affect me at all. But when I’m alone in the dark, I always feel like there is a vampire out there waiting to pounce.

  45. Tam

Mark: But vampires are hot! Well, they can be. LOL

For my fellow Nightmare Before Christmas fans, an amazing wedding cake.
    http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y9/ipol28/Tammy/nightmare_cake12.jpg

  46. Tam- I’ve seen that cake and love it.
I love Nightmare, but I’m kinda sad it got so overexposed. It was out for a while and well-received and had many fans, then out of nowhere it was everywhere. For example, there is so much Nightmare merch in Hot Topic. In high school, suddenly all the goths were wearing Nightmare clothes and talking about it, really late. haha.
So I don’t know. It’s still a great movie, but its just been so overexposed now, that I’m hesitant to say I like it in case I meet some crazed fan who is like “You probably liked it when it became popular for the second time, fake fan!!!”
I fear those type of people all the time….

  47. Bernd

Tam, I agree Vampires are hot. one of my all time favorite movies is Near Dark. I also enjoy True Blood on HBO a lot.

That wedding cake was cute, but that’s taken the fandom a bit to far. I like the movie, love the music and think Jake would make a fab costume for Halloween, but that’s it.
