The Big Two Seven

Twenty-Seven years ago today at 9:09 AM, I was brought into this glorious world. My mom called me “Bruiser” because she said I looked like such a little tough guy. If only she knew the argyle-lovin’, unicorn-story-writing man child she had on her hands!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I’m feeling a bit better today, just a tad achy. I’ll be heading into the city with my cousin Michelle to see the new Sondheim show “Road Show”, then heading to a party at my friend Jen’s house. Happy Birthday to me!

Happy Birthday Craig! I find, the closer you get to 30, the better life is! (I’m 29)
As a woman who has given birth three times, I have come up with various nicknames for my kids too…
Carson “End of Bladder Control” Pipster
Garrett “Stretch Marks on my what?” Pipster
Rylen “How did I survive that?!” Pipster

Bruiser seems much more simple and easier to explain (make up a lie to cover for what it was really meaning)

Happy Birthday Craig. Don’t lift a finger and let them celebrate you today. 27 was a great year for me. I did great vacations, met my bf on one of them. Btw, adorable cutie in your pix.

Listen, I don’t want to say anything I’ll regret about your mama, but are you sure she didn’t call you Bruiser because you bruised her vagina?

I just read your unicorn story. Wow – another beautiful poignant fairy tale. While your waiting to get them published (which they will be), you should make a book of them for your nieces and nephews. What a special gift that would be- like Jk Rowlings to her son.

I understand but completly disagree with the criticism that giving the foal away for it’s own protection hurt the story. Yes, it’s very sad but as other people have pointed out it’s a very common theme from Harry Potter, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty to Moses, King Arthur and Superman. Not to mention all the real life cases of mothers giving up their children for adoption because they can not provide for them. You can argue that it’s the wrong thing to do but it does happen and fairy tales often have a lesson and make the reader think about morals. That is part of what makes your story so great.

My favorite images were: “Nearly twice as large as before, and gleaming as though carved from pearl…He shook his body like a dog out of a lake.: That so easy to picture and quite beautiful.

I also like the fact that “Even the unicorn King finally felt remorse for his wickedness.” It reminds me of that moment that Johnny, Daniels rival handed him the trophy in the Karate Kid.

    As always superb work!
