Another Reason to be Thankful!

My Mom called me at work the other day and said that a package came for me in the mail that day. I was extremely excited upon hearing the news, but since my memory is similar to that of Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates, I forgot about it in approximately 17 seconds. I got home later that day and found the package in my mail pile and was excited all over again. The benefits of having a terrible short term memory! Anyway, it was a package from Michelle M!

Isn’t that awesome of her? So awesome! And clearly I watched it immediately and absolutely adored it. I love the Rankin-Bass style of animation. It has this amazing way of being both intricately detailed and beautiful, yet childlike, which makes watching their movies (they did The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings cartoons also) so much fun, and The Last Unicorn was no exception. It was a great (and surprisingly sophisticated) story with great animation and imagination. Thank you very much Michelle M!

“That one is real. That is the harpy, Celaeno.”

I love that movie. I love the animation, especially the design on the Red Bull.

Michelle M.: That card is awesome!

I like the stickers that she put on the front of the package. :D

Wow – a post featuring…Me! Awesome me. My favorite kind of post.

And, yay! I’m glad you liked it : ).

(jon – I got it at Borders bookstore)
    (Heather – stickers are fun!)

Cool! That movie was the second most important (after The Happy Prince) cartoon movie of my youth. I am pretty sure that movie made me cry when I first watched it. I found it very moving. In high school I re-discovered it and made my best friend watch it with me.

I love the song The Last Unicorn! Kenny Logins does a totally kick ass cover of it. Here is a link to the Kenny Logins version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba09dqCagIs .

As I grew up and came to know more fully some of the darker shadows cast in our imperfect world I found solace in that song. The notion of the triumph of something good and pure in the face of great adversity was inspirational to me.

Thanks to Michelle M. for giving Craig that great gift and thanks to Craig for posting about it. You have both reminded me about my ambitious youthful optimism. Thank you for that. :)

Chris: I forgot to mention the song, but you’re right. Its a great song. I really like that cover version also. Thanks for sharing.

Michelle M ROCKS! I got a superswell birthday card from her, and I’ll be posting about it later….but she is awesome! :)

Chris – I love that song! America did a great job on the soundtrack. I also love the Kenny Loggin’s version and play it at naptime for the kids in my class. Have you hear his version of Pure Imagination (from Willy Wonka)?

    Polt – you’re gonna make me cry : ).

Chiming in late now that I’m finally home. You’re special Michelle. And now you are famous having a whole post about you. :-)

Am I the only person left who’s never seen this movie? The only unicorn cartoon I’ve seen is Charlie and the candy mountain on Youtube, somehow I don’t think its quite the same.

Aaaah, the Last Unicorn! I went through a phase where I watched that movie every day. I’m glad you finally got around to seeing it!

Oh, that’s really sweet that she did that. 14Giants’ cat once sent me a ‘thank you’ card as I’d sent him something through the post. Is the most I’ve had so far.

I was in a bar in Covent Garden last night and the guy at the next table was wearing an Argyll top. Thought of you!

Tam, I’ve never seen this movie either…perhaps I was before it’s time?

    HUGS…

Polt, yes, I only saw it because I went with 2 young cousins when the movie came out. I was not a fan.

  14. Tam on November 29, 2008 at 10:12 am

Polt: Glad I am not alone. :-)

Well I’m glad I’m the last to comment here because, surprise, I’m going to be the buzzkill. I read the original book by Peter S. Beagle and was totally stoked to hear that they were making it into a movie and went to see it as soon as it came out and was profoundly disappointed. I even hated the theme song.

But I’m glad you liked it.
