Denny and Izzie fo Shizzie

December 4, 2008

And the award for most annoying storyline of the year goes to Izzie and Denny on Grey’s Anatomy. It was a close call between this and the miraculous eclipse on Heroes that can be seen from anyplace on Earth and lasts for two hours, but the Izzie/Denny debacle takes the poo-frosted cake. It’s just such an awful storyline. Like, maybe if it happened right after he died and we all still cared about him, I could handle it a bit more, but it’s two years later. We’ve moved on. Actually, so did Izzie, because you know, she’s fallen in love with both George and Alex since then. So go away Denny! She burned your spirit-bearing sweater just like the mystical Native American told her to do. What must she do next? Burn down the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic because it has your spirit in it also? At this point I wouldn’t be surprised.

    Could not agree more.

  2. Mike on December 4, 2008 at 11:56 pm

    God.

I gave up on this show a season ago. When I read that Denny was coming back I thought it was like a dumb casting stunt where the ACTOR that played Denny was coming back as another character…you know, like how I LOVE LUCY always used the same 3 character actors?

I haven’t seen this episode you write about, and I agree that it’s dumb.

  3. Baldvin Kari on December 5, 2008 at 12:11 am

I was so happy to see this. It’s so good to know that I’m not alone in hating this new Denny/Izzie storyline. Where the hell do they think they are they going with this?

  4. David on December 5, 2008 at 12:27 am

I stopped watching ages ago. Sometimes I miss the occasional quick shot of McDreamy’s ass (I’m assuming it still gets airplay now and then) but otherwise, I just get tired of these storylines that never end.

Was wondering when you were going to show up today. I was all “where’s the Craig-meister?”

  5. Maggie on December 5, 2008 at 12:49 am

I am so glad that I am not the only one who HATES this storyline with a passion. Seriously – do whatever needs to be done for Denny to die a second (and final – PLEASE) death.

  6. BOSSY on December 5, 2008 at 5:33 am

    Don’t watch. Thank gah.

  7. John on December 5, 2008 at 7:09 am

I kind of assumed this storyline was Katherine Heigl’s punishment for publicly blasting the writing on the show. I don’t really watch the show much anymore either as all the storylines are pretty absurd.

“Hey fellow interns! Let’s cut each other open! Oh yeah, that makes sense! No one will ever notice! There will be no real punishment when we get caught!”

“I’m straight! I’m a lesbian now! But I’m still straight for McSteamy! I married the gay actor who is straight on the show! That made me gay sort of! But then we shooed away my lesbian lover!”

  8. john on December 5, 2008 at 7:13 am

I thought the all visible eclipse was pretty absurd too! I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy, but I do have a healthy dislike of Heigl. She comes across as such a c-bomb.

Hope this post means you are feeling better Craig.

“Seriously…seriously?” That is two-word cultural value of this show. Critics have been complaining about the whiny characters and the storylines for a couple of seasons now…and yet, they’re still making more. There’s even a spin-off. And we keep watching, knowing that it’s crap, and we don’t care, and Sandra Oh’s hair is out of control, and bringing back dead guy as delusion of the formerly likable character after two seasons is PREPOSTEROUS.

And they STILL canceled Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money, and moved Scrubs to ABC.

At this point I’d like to reiterate, “Seriously…seriously?”

  10. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 7:22 am

I don’t watch “Anatomy”, but I have to admit to being a complete dolt about the “Heroes” eclipse. It never occurred to me that they show the same eclipse regardless of where they are in the world! Awesome. That’s *so* comic book. Which somehow doesn’t bother me. :-) I personally thought it was kinda cool with everyone losing their powers during it. Noah got a chance to be a badass again! Woohoo! Of course, he always does it at the expense of Claire’s daddy needs, but, hey, what’s a professional stalker/killer to do? I mean, *somebody’s* gotta put food on the table. Which brings to mind the fact that *no one* eats on that show! Seriously. The last time was when Angela poisoned Arthur with a bowl of soup. And even *that* was in a flashback. Good lord, have a bagel or something.

Oh, and just to clarify — I occasionally watch anatomy, I just don’t watch “Anatomy.”

    ;-)

The Writer’s Strike killed this show for me. I haven’t watched it since.

  12. polt on December 5, 2008 at 8:44 am

I’ve never seen Grey’s Anatomy, and I gave up on Heroes mid-second season. So I have nothing to contribute other than saying that I’m watching all the episodes of the new Dr. Who series (from which Torchwood spun off) on DVD and while its not Torchwood, its still pretty damn entertaining. Much more entertaining than most of the junk Hollywood puts out, tv and movie-wise.

Oh, and just to clarify — I got to watch portions of Dave S.’s anatomy, I just don’t watch “Anatomy.” :)

    Hope you’re feeling better Craiggers!!!

And speaking of crappy TV, here’s something that’s not so crappy: “Total Drama Island” marathon this weekend!! All 25 episodes re-air to prep for the big finale next week! Woohoo! O-wen O-wen O-wen! :-)

Winner takes home $100,000! Well, sort of…

  14. polt on December 5, 2008 at 8:54 am

Owen’s still IN it???? Geez, I thought they only kept the fat guy around for comedic purposes for a few epidoes and then kicked him off about half way through.

Is that dreamy guy in the cowboy hat still on? :)

I doubt I’ll find the time to watch, you gotta let me know the winner!

    HUGS…

  15. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 8:54 am

Polt: Chaz and I’ve been catching episodes of Dr. Who too and we’re both really liking it. Donna’s awesome. :-) Homlier than wet cat in a sewer, but awesome.

  16. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 8:56 am

Nope, Geoff’s gone, Polt. Sorry. It’s Owen and Gwen as the final two after Heather hilariously lost the challenge last week and got booted. (yay!)

  17. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 9:07 am

Okay, I never leapt on the Grey’s Anatomy bandwagon when it came out (call me a rebel) so I am clueless. Dr. Who? Haven’t seen the new ones, probably should since I like BBC stuff generally. Total Drama Island? Saw one episode where someone threw up while performing. Its on everyday at 6:30 here on Teletoon but since I don’t really like “real” reality TV not sure I’d be into cartoon reality TV. Here Dave, you can watch some on-line special here (maybe you’ve seen it) if you have the right flash player (which we don’t at work). HERE If the link doesn’t work its just on the teletoon home page.

Ummm. How about that Supernatural. Damn, Dean screwed an angel and Sammy slept with a demon. How about that? That’s all I got to offer. (And they were both homely. Sigh, the boys deserve better.)

  18. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 9:08 am

Okay, that link definitely won’t work since its broken. So ignore that and just go to teletoon if you want to check it out.

  19. Dickie Maxx on December 5, 2008 at 9:43 am

I have to admit we ditched greys this season. We were just kinda over the whole show at the end of last season. I think we only watched it because it was on after Ugly Betty.

  20. john on December 5, 2008 at 9:53 am

Dave S.: Ando and Hiro were eating in the bowling alley after Hiro was mentally regressed back to age 10.

Polt & Dave S.: Which seasons are you watching on Doctor Who? All 4 seasons are really good. I’ve liked all three companions for different reasons. Rose was a great first companion and Martha definitely made it her own, she was different, but equally good. Donna has been a blast. I loved her Silence in the Library and The Forest of the Dead.

Tam: Definitely try to catch it, it’s a fun show.

  21. polt on December 5, 2008 at 9:55 am

Dave S.: I’ve not gotten to the fourth season on TV yet, only saw the third season with Martha Jones. But I’ve got all four season on DVD, so I’m sure I’ll get to the 4th season soon. And when you wrote ‘homlier’ I read ‘hornier’. Fruedian slip, I know, but I was left wondering just how horny a wet cat in a sewer was. :)

Well if it’s just Owen and Gwen, then I’ll have to root for Owen too.

    HUGS…

  22. polt on December 5, 2008 at 9:56 am

Tam: I don’t like ‘real’ reality shows either, generally, but the animnated one is great!

And I’ve slept with some angels AND demons, but none of them were homely. :) If the boys deserve better, perhaps they should sleep with each other! Can you get anymore to the polar opposite of homely than those two??? :)

    HUGS…

  23. polt on December 5, 2008 at 9:57 am

john: I watched the third season as it aired on BBCAmerica earlier this year. Then, I got into Torchwood. Well, just recently, I bought all four seasons of Dr. Who, and I’ve completed the first season. I’ve watched the Christmas Invasion from the second season. Not watched anymore of the second, or ANY of the 4th. Although, I’m sure I’ll have watched all four seasons before the end of the year. :)

  24. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 9:59 am

Dickie Maxx: Love “My Mormon Journey” on your blog. Still working through all the parts., but it’s pretty darn intriguing.

  25. polt on December 5, 2008 at 9:59 am

HEY, I just noticed, the two finalist on “Total Drama Island” are Owen and Gwen…and who hooked up in a scandalous affair in the first season of Torchwood but…OWEN and GWEN!!!

    Coincidence?????

    Well, yeah, probably…..

    HUGS…

  26. polt on December 5, 2008 at 10:00 am

    Wow…four posts in a short time period…I think I’m channeling Dave S. again. :)

  27. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 10:01 am

Tam: How can you not like animated reality?

    Okay, I admit that’s a bit oxymoronic…

  28. Dickie Maxx on December 5, 2008 at 10:02 am

Polt: Season 2 of Doctor who was so much more fun than the first IMO I really liked David Tennet better.

Dave S: Thank you so much. I am just finishing writing another couple installments that will go live one of the 6th and the other on the 7th.

  29. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 10:02 am

You’ll never best me, my young Polt. ;-)

  30. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 10:03 am

Dickie Maxx: Excellent. You’re all bookmarked and ready to be read. :-)

  31. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 10:04 am

Would a disciple of Polt be a Poltawan?

And what would a Poltawan learner actually learn?

  32. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 10:13 am

Polt: I too noticed Owen and Gwen. Its the like the universe revolves around Torchwood. And Sam and Dean can’t be together. Their brothers. Ewwww. Wincest is just too squicky for me. Now HOWEVER, if Dean wants to sleep with an angel I’m all up for him and Castiel getting some action. Now THAT would be hot.

  33. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 10:17 am

Craig: Thanks for fixing that funky link for me.

John: Should I start Dr. Who at the beginning? Does it matter? Well fuck, I just checked and Dr. Who is on Friday nights at 9:00. The EXACT same time as Supernatural. Ain’t gonna happen (although Supernatural is in repeats till Jan.). It also says I can watch it on-line at CBC so I guess I could do that. But if I have to start at the beginning no point in getting into Season 4.

  34. Ray Ray on December 5, 2008 at 10:18 am

Annoying storyline? How about Most Annoying Show In the Universe?

  35. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 11:31 am

Craig: Off-topic question. Well, off-topic for this thread (but not the week). My daughter wants desperately to see Australia. She’s 13, is she going to be bored stupid? Is it all talky drama and angst? Before I consent to paying for both of us to go, you saw it, so tell me. I have no idea why she’s stuck on it, well, she saw the trailer and now thinks its the greatest thing since sliced bread. And I suppose better this than Twilight which she is “so over – I’m into witches now”.

Well, anyone else who saw it can answer. But I wasn’t sure who else here saw it.

  36. polt on December 5, 2008 at 11:38 am

A disciple of Polt I’d call a ‘boytoy’. And he’d learn whatever it was I wanted to teach him. :)

“Who’s more foolish, the fool or the one that follows him?” -gotta love Kenobi wisdom.

  37. Dave S. on December 5, 2008 at 11:40 am

Polt: “There is only ‘do’. Or ‘do’ not.” ;-)

  38. Craig on December 5, 2008 at 11:55 am

Tam: Tough question. There’s some really great action between the talking to keep things interesting. But it is a tad long at 2:45. I’d compare it to Titanic. Talky in the beginning, but once the action gets going, she won’t get bored.

  39. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Craig: Thanks, guess we’ll give it a try tomorrow night. Oh and are you saying its as good as Titanic or similar in style/length, because I am sooooo not a huge Titanic fan.

  40. Craig on December 5, 2008 at 12:20 pm

Just saying it’s similar in style and length. Same as Pearl Harbor. Big silly love stories set in a historical background with action thrown in. It’s totally cliche. If you’re one to groan at cliches, then you might not like it. But I’m kind of a sucker for stuff like that.

  41. Tam on December 5, 2008 at 12:30 pm

Okay, I’m likely not going to love this so she better damn well. The sacrifices we parents make. ;-) And I’ve never seen Pearl Harbor either.

  42. john on December 5, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Tam: You should try to watch the Doctor Who series in order and there are story lines that cross them all.

  43. Liz on December 5, 2008 at 5:29 pm

I think they should just kill Izzy off, then we won’t have to see that stupid storyline any more.

  44. Maggie Garcia on December 5, 2008 at 10:14 pm

And did you notice Denny is played by the same guy who plays Mary Louise Parker’s dead husband on Weeds? What’s with that??

  45. Craig on December 5, 2008 at 10:23 pm

Maggie: He’s also the dead dad from Supernatural, and from the Watchmen trailer, looks like he dies pretty early in that also. He doesn’t seem to have very good luck!

  46. Dana on December 6, 2008 at 3:16 pm

I am getting tired of Grey’s Anatomy and the Denny/Izzie storyline. Time for it to move on. I am also so ready for George to POP out of the closet and have a wonderful crush on McDreamy, McSteamy, and Karev! Just wishes!

  47. Dustin on December 7, 2008 at 1:10 am

Clearly Grey’s is trying to compete with Ghost Whisperer. Sadly both shows are sucking some serious . . . fill in the blank right now. Between dead Denny and Jim stuck in some ugly guys body, boring!
