Anchorman – Review

Netflix #57 – Anchorman – Suggested by no one

This is one of those movies that I’ve wanted to see for a long time, but for one reason or another it always seemed to elude me. But I finally watched it the other day and loved it! I always find it weird reviewing a comedy, because what is there to say really? It was hysterical. There, I said it. The comedy movie was funny. Stop the presses! Okay fine, I’ll elaborate. Steve Carell was awesome in it. This was before The Office and 40 Year Old Virgin when his biggest prior role was in Bruce Almighty, and we all know how that turned out. But everything out of his mouth was genius. That said, I’d have to say that my favorite part was the trip to Pleasure Town. “Look! The most glorious rainbow ever!” “Do me on it!” I was dying. The one character I just couldn’t stand though was David Koechner as the sportscaster. Apparently he plays the same character in everything he does, and it annoys me every time (still two words! grrrr!) and just isn’t all that funny. Otherwise the movie was hysterical!

I saw Anchorman in 2004 when it first came out. That summer I was doing an internship in San Diego. The day after I saw the movie, we went sailing on San Diego Bay. As we sailed under the Coronado Bridge, I had a strange desire to kick a dog off the bridge.

Is this the movie that had Kelly Bundy in it? Or am I mixing it up with another?

Jazz flute was amazing. Also, did you know that San Diego is German for “a whale’s vagina”?

Heather: Yes, that’s the one. I love Christina Applegate.

Craig, you know I don’t speak German (Spanish).

One of my favorites..but I don’t like the animated part, I just don’t find it funnny.

Maybe it’s a cultural thing but I don’t think Will Ferrell is all that funny. I don’t even remember Steve Carell in the movie. I saw Anchorman about 2 years ago and don’t remember a thing. What I do remember is how often I thought that it is lame.

I always thought ‘a whale’s vagina’ would be ‘Walvagina’ in German, but I’m learning something new every time on these Teach-me-something Tuesdays. Wish me luck in finding an opportunity to use my new vocabulary.

I heard it was funny but like Bernd I’m not a big Will Ferrell fan either. But it might be worth checking out as I love Steve Carell generally.

    I love lamp.

I’m with Bernd and Tam, not a big WIll ferrell fan. Seems he plays the same character everytime, just in a different job/situation.

Glad you liked it though. A deep heartly laugh is always a good thing! :)

    HUGS…

I hate Will Ferrell but I love and own Anchorman, so many classic lines, I even have “Why don’t you go back to your home on whore island” as a ring tone.

Hey, did I ever tell you Tim and I met Steve Carell several years ago when he was hosting The Daily Show? This was before the Office and before any of the movies. We had tickets to see The Daily Show, and Jon Stewart was off hosting the Emmys or something, so Steve (I feel I can call him Steve now) was hosting instead. Tim and I were grabbing coffee at some deli beforehand and, lo and behold, Stevie was getting coffee from the same deli. To my embarrassment (at the time), Tim told him how he was my absolute favorite one on the show. He was really nice and gratious. When the show was over, Stevie Baby even recognized us in the audience and gave us a wave. Totally cool!

Nicolle: That’s awesome! It’s so great that he waved to you guys too!

Also great? The progression from Steve Carell to Stevie Baby. LOL! Thanks for the laugh! :-)

I love this movie! my favorite part is when they were talking about the street fight and ron burgandy is like “that jumped up a notch.” I don’t know why but it cracks me up every time.

See if you can track down “Wake up, Ron Burgundy”. It’s a whole second movie made of the footage they had to delete from the first one. The exchange between Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph will make it worth your time and attention alone.
