Lazy Weekend Mornings
I wasn’t able to finish the post I started yesterday in time for today, so I all I have for you this morning is a picture taken this past Saturday. Some of you might have already seen it on Facebook, but in case you haven’t, here it is.

We were dogsitting my sister Amanda’s dog Ralphie. He can be completely adorable when he isn’t being a yappy pain in the butt, and this was one of those times. He’s a maltese, about five years old, and completely deaf.

He is soooo adorable. Oh yeah, Ralphie is cute too.
If he’s deaf how do you communicate? Doggie sign language? I knew someone with a deaf cat once.
By Craig, April 8, 2009 @ 7:56 am
LOL. Yeah, he’s fluent in sign language. His paws are shockingly articulate.
Actually when you send him into the back yard to do his business, since you can’t call him back, you just flash the lights and he’ll come back to the door. And if you need to yell at him, stomping on the floor usually gets his attention.

Awww, how cute. I just want to run my hands through his hair.
Ralphie’s, too, but I’m allergic, so I’d stick to the dog-sitter. Minus the dog that scene looks shockingly like my Sunday mornings, but I have my cup of coffee usually at the table while reading the Sunday newspaper.

I DID see this on facebook, and the photo’s just as cute here as it was there. Man, with you can ralphie, and Enrickyricardo and a sleeping Richad Parker, i think I might overdose on adorableness.

We had a deaf cat when I was growing up; it’s the only cat I’ve ever known who enjoyed riding in cars.
By Dave S., April 8, 2009 @ 8:27 am
I had a blind newt once.
Oh…wait…I guess that doesn’t count.
By Dave S., April 8, 2009 @ 8:29 am
Have you ever warned the dog not to shoot his eye out?
By Hayden, April 8, 2009 @ 8:30 am
Why does Ralphie appear to be floating above your lap Craig?
By Hayden, April 8, 2009 @ 8:31 am
Dave S: your second comment made me laugh…
By polt, April 8, 2009 @ 8:49 am
I’m surprised no one has yet comment on the sheer Hollywood-action hero type rugged manliness of Craiggers in a t-shirt and shorts.
perhaps the floral print sofa has something to do with it?

You both are absolutely adorable!
By Alex, April 8, 2009 @ 9:12 am
Awww cute puppy..and Craig’s looking very attractive in his shorts
By Milo, April 8, 2009 @ 9:14 am
Very cute!
PS And so was the dog!

Your means of communicating with him is very interesting (in my linguistics classes we’ve talked about animal communication quite a bit). Sounds like a bunch of conditioning.
Polt: I’ll meet Craig one day and we’ll take a pic of the four of us. Actually, I’m not sure Richard Parker would like the train….
By Kimi, April 8, 2009 @ 9:38 am
I get tired just looking at that pic. You look like you need at least 6 more sips of that coffee.

Ya know, a friend of mine had this old Schnauzer, and she was deaf too. If they wanted her, they had a flashlight they’d turn on and wave so it was in front of her face, and then she’d come to them. It was kinda funny to watch.
Course, then she went blind in one eye. And then she got very confused, like getting herself back into the corner behind the recliner and not being able to get out and just sitting there and whining. That wasn’t so funny. Soon, after that, they put her down.
Wow, that’s a buzz kill innit? Okay, here’s my remedy: Ralphie is SO cute. And Craiggers legs look good in shorts. Now, that’s better.
HUGS…

I’m afraid to ask how the dog inspired his name.
Do dogs get hairballs?
By Nicole, April 8, 2009 @ 10:02 am
You look too cute in your jammies!
By Craig, April 8, 2009 @ 10:06 am
Dave S. was correct. His name was inspired by the Christmas Story character.
I also forgot to mention his resemblance to a miniature Falcor when he lays like that.
Meeting Enrico? Swoon. Oh, and I can’t post comments on Hotel Tuesday while I’m at work, but if I forget later congratulations on the 100th post!
By Tam, April 8, 2009 @ 10:06 am
TwoPi: I’m thinking from “The Christmas Story” Ralphie. I hope.
You are a ray of sunshine Polt. Pass me a tissue. *sniff*

Every Saturday morning is lazy for me. The last time I was dressed before noon, I was at a conference.
By David, April 8, 2009 @ 11:02 am
So is Ralphie, positioned strategically in Craig’s lap, meant to be a scale representation of Craig’s……
By Tam, April 8, 2009 @ 11:04 am
David: tsk tsk. Ralphie’s not nearly big enough for that.
By polt, April 8, 2009 @ 11:35 am
But Tam, let us hope he’s more than hairy enough.
HUGS…
By Ray, April 8, 2009 @ 1:42 pm
Wow, Saturday morning Craig is quite the looker (I’m having arm hair envy!)…wait, do I hear “That’s So Raven” in the background? Aw, SNAP!
By FDot, April 8, 2009 @ 1:47 pm
Yes, yes, very cute. Though Ralphie looks a bit more like a Farkus to me. I’m still trying to figure out why the lamp is on some sort of decorative plate.
By Craig, April 8, 2009 @ 3:02 pm
Ray: Arm hair envy? I didn’t know such a thing existed.
FDot: Not a decorative plate, but a doily. Unfortunately my Mom loooooves doilies.
By Tam, April 8, 2009 @ 3:36 pm
Craig: All mom’s love doilies. Its mandatory. Well, except me. No doilies to be found unless that coating of dust on the table could count as a doily What a freaking weird word if you say it enough.
By FDot, April 8, 2009 @ 4:25 pm
Tam, just take a toothpick and etch some fancy design into the dust and presto!, instant doily without the output of cash.
I like doilies though, something comfortably old-fashioned about them.

Craig: Is the title an allusion to Plain White T’s ~ Lazy Day Afternoon?
By Craig, April 8, 2009 @ 8:50 pm
Sorry Ryan, can’t say that it is. But I’d just like to say that I loved Hey There Delilah for about two years before it hit the radio.
By Tam, April 8, 2009 @ 8:53 pm
Craig: But then they played Hey There Delilah for two years non-stop until I wanted to stick hot pokers in my ears. I swear it was every third song for months. Now it makes me want to go into convulsions every time I hear it. It annoys me that radio stations can so kill a song by playing it repeatedly.
By Ryan, April 8, 2009 @ 10:11 pm
I can’t remember the last time I’ve listened to the radio.
For a while, I listened to a lot of Danish radio over the internet. I got to the point that I wasn’t sure what artists had broken into the U.S.

Cute photo. Cute dog. It may be better that he is deaf than blind. A friend of mine had a partially blind dog, and apparently his ability to hear had increased. The dog would go nuts seemingly at random when he heard something that would be imperceptible to people or other dogs.
My first dating blog post was shaping up to be an entirely upbeat post (moderately rare on my blog). But alas, the second date did not go as well as the first.
Oh well, it was good experience.
I think I will still blog about it, it just won’t have as happy an ending.
By Tam, April 9, 2009 @ 7:03 am
Chris: Sorry it didn’t work out. Ah well, such is life.
By BOSSY, April 9, 2009 @ 8:32 am
So… he can’t hear his own annoying yap…
By john, April 10, 2009 @ 10:51 am
Chris: Glad to hear you had a great first date and although the second didn’t go as well, I hope it was a mutual decision. I think dates are like interviews, even when they don’t work out, the experience is still good.
I’m late to the party here, Craig, can you tell me why Ralphie is feeling up your junk?
By Craig, April 10, 2009 @ 10:59 am
Because Ralphie has blood in his veins.
By john, April 10, 2009 @ 11:05 am
WOW! All this and humility too.
