This is *so* me. I despise doing all the crap that rebates require. I’m one of the putzes that rebates were created for. “Hey, look at this great, cheap phone! Only $50 after a $550 rebate! Because we know only half of you will actually fill it out and mail it in! Woohoo, suckers!”
That actually happened to me too when I bought my wireless router. After the rebate, the thing was only going to cost $5 but when I got home and filled out the form there were like 20 different codes and none of them fit into the block where the rebate code was supposed to go. At the end of the day we just guessed and sent it in. Several months later when we called to see where our rebate was, we were told that the model we bought was not eligible for the rebate. Even though the rebate was plastered all over the box. Just wasn’t worth the fight.
Thanks for bringing up all those bad memories… I am going back to bed.
Dave S: I wouldn’t be so happy. I would check to see what short bus Samuel was let off of before claiming him as a fan.
And, your 3 comment limit has been reached for the day. I’m sure we will hear from you tomorrow…
OH, and very funny post Craig! Love Dilbert!
Rebate hell. There was the time they sent it to the wrong address. Amazingly they resent it but I try to avoid rebates. I don’t think they are quite as common up here. We just like to pay more for everything in Canada as a matter of principal.
I’ve had surprisingly little trouble with rebates..but then I do them so rarely. Only on big items, like my computer, the new copier/printer/fax thingee I got, that sorta stuff.
And, Dave S., should Spike300 ever reemerge, I, as your FIRST loyal fan, certainly want to be notified!
I’m happy to take on any rebate and its associated hoops to jump through. I figure any money coming back to me is money I can spend again in the future.
It’s nice to see that Dilbert can still produce high quality strips so far into its run, so many other comic strips drop off in quality after running for a few years.
Rebates are a rip off, they count on most people not taking the trouble to meet their conditions.
An even better rip off is when you buy something from a web site and find out two months later, when you open your credit card bill, that you also ordered some stupid monthly service you have no need for.
When you call and complain, they tell you that the service was clearly listed on the homepage; tucked away in the bottom left corner, in a #2 size font. You can get a credit if you don’t want the service, but they count on the few suckers who will just pay and forget about it.
I’m with Polt on this one. I’ve only done a few, on big ticket items, and it went well. With that said, I will say that I just experienced something similar to what Mark described.
I paid off a credit card and went on line to close it and I found a $23 charge. It was an automatic renewal of a magazine subscription that I bought for a coworker last year for her birthday. I paid the charge (I wasn’t going to tell my coworker-she would have died) and closed the account. What ticked me off more was the service rep gave me mad attitude.
This whole “give us an interest free loan, and maybe we’ll repay you” sounds like a great stimulus plan for the economy. I think EVERYTHING should be sold with mail-in rebates!
My Dad is the rebate king. He actually gave me good advice – make copies of everything in case the company ‘didn’t get the right info’. That helped when emachine’s supposedly didn’t receive my $150 rebate.
He also has one superpower that I wish I had. He has NO problem calling up any company and screaming and persisting until he gets *whatever*. Ex: When Hasbro tried to cheat me out of the Cloverfield monster he got me for my birthday (saying there weren’t enough) he harassed them all the way up to the top brass until they came through and sent me mine. Sometimes he’ll even get more than what he asked for just to get him to stop bothering them. Not sure what you would call that superpower but it does come in handy!
I really feel that the Germanic Aesthetic Tradition in relationship to early 20th century art is actually based on the previous century’s French influence.
Nice post. I just did 2 rebate, for a mixer and for a video camera. Rebates are a pain! So far I got the gift card from the mixed rebate. I am still waiting on the video camera rebate. I used to be very into photography. Cannon had a tradition of having a big winter rebate. It was usualy worth a few hundred dollars for me, so I made sure I did it right. I even sent it with delivery tracking to make sure they got it. Fortunatly it always worked out. I
It is great to see Dilbert again. I used to be a big fan. I had not read a strip in a while.
I hate Shaquandatifah because I can’t ever spell it. But I do love the tattoo. I call her Shaq. I was hoping she’d be eliminated soon so I could only have easy names to spell. Lazy AND shallow. A lovely combination don’t you think?
Craig: Yeah yeah, you young whipper snappers with your grasp on modern technology. When I was a kid there was no cut and paste, you burned a stick till it was black and wrote on a rock, spelling errors and all.
I just did rebates for 6 blackberries for work and filled out each one exactly the same, do you know that I only got 2! 2 came back RETURN TO SENDER!!!!??????, and 2 w4ere denied because they said the phones were not activated within the time frame, but I activated all 6 at the same time!
This was on top of the fact that when I ordered these phones, they sent 2 of the correct ones and 4 of the wrong ones and then tried to charge for 10 phones.
If these companies are going to offer rebates, just offer rebates, don’t play anal ring toss with someone’s money!!!
Good lord, Craig, are you *still* out eating sushi?? I would’ve expected you to be at work. Unless you actually work at a sushi place now. A 24-hour sushi place. A 24-hour sushi place that won’t allow you to Twitter…
Dave S–I’m sorry I don’t understand the answer. English is not my first language and I don’t understand everything that I read on puntabulous and I don’t think I like Jonah. I asked my friend about short bus. I understand him now and my friend said it was not nice.
Dilbert always makes me laugh because it reminds me of the time I worked in an office and we called my boss Dilbert behind his back. On my last day I changed the name tag on his office door and I heard he flipped out a month later when the mailroom asked him about it.
I have totally blown off the rebates before because I couldn’t be hassled. Why is everyone always try to screw everyone all the time?
This is *so* me. I despise doing all the crap that rebates require. I’m one of the putzes that rebates were created for. “Hey, look at this great, cheap phone! Only $50 after a $550 rebate! Because we know only half of you will actually fill it out and mail it in! Woohoo, suckers!”
I’m totally with Samuel.
Dave S–thank you for my shout out. I have been a fan of your comments for a long time. Keep saying it like it is!

Woohoo! I have a fan!
In your face, Jonah.
Sheesh. Yesterday Rcktmn joined the convo and now Adam makes a cameo.
Next thing you know, Spike300 will come out of hiatus…
(nudge nudge wink wink)
I just don’t buy the damn stuff.
Dave S: I wouldn’t be so happy. I would check to see what short bus Samuel was let off of before claiming him as a fan.

OH, and very funny post Craig! Love Dilbert!
But, Jonah, it would simply be wrong to deny my adoring Puntabulous fans the witticism, insight, and profundity that are my comments.
Right, Samuel?
Right…?
Hellooo…?

Yeah… that’s why I just don’t buy anything over $20. I never run into this problem.

My mother was right, “That’s how they get ya”.
Mark: Doesn’t your Mom say that a lot?
Tam: Yes, and she’s always right. Like that part about not sinning to get into heaven…..That’s how they get ya!
I’ve found that I have to send it out immediately, like literally as I walk in the door. If I don’t, it will never get sent out.
That happened to me when I bought a new power supply for my computer. It didn’t help that this was in the middle of conference time.
I’m with Polt on this one. I’ve only done a few, on big ticket items, and it went well. With that said, I will say that I just experienced something similar to what Mark described.

It’s amazing that we’ve stayed on topic for half the day! Woohoo!
I really feel that the Germanic Aesthetic Tradition in relationship to early 20th century art is actually based on the previous century’s French influence.
What does everyone think?
Umm… What does everyone think in relationship to rebates, I mean.
Yeah. That’s what I meant.
Why did Jonah say I get off the short bus? What does that mean? I don’t take the bus.
Hmm… Interesting that Jonah’s suddenly disappeared…
Dave S: Obviously, I was right. Nice fan club.
Dave S. and Jonah are my new favorite Puntabucouple. You guys are so cute together!
From Kimi’s facebook status (name is Kenyon):Kimi is in love with her new daughter and can’t wait for Campbell to come meet her soon!
Woohoo! Awesome. Thanks for the update Michelle!!
Kenyon. What a cool name.

It is great to see Dilbert again. I used to be a big fan. I had not read a strip in a while.
Dave S. : I think she should have named her Craig. Or Shaquandatifah.
LOL @ Michelle M.! She’s my FAVORITE Project Runway: TCNJ Edition model!
What about Valerie? Or whatever Valerie’s hooker’s name was?
Congrats Kimi and welcome to the world Kenyon.
I hate Shaquandatifah because I can’t ever spell it. But I do love the tattoo. I call her Shaq. I was hoping she’d be eliminated soon so I could only have easy names to spell. Lazy AND shallow. A lovely combination don’t you think?
Tam: I do find myself looking back on the webpage mid-name to make sure I spelled it right.
Copy and Paste.
Just sayin!

HaHaHaHaHa Dave S–I love puntabulous but do you have a blog too? If not you should!
Samuel: I’m actually going to kick one off this weekend sometime. http://spike300.com
And thanks for the unsolicited opportunity for marketing.
Don’t bother clicking on the link, it just sends you to the Netfirms page.
No, Craig, you’re not a bad blogger. Who would have time with all your social activity lately…?
Dave S–I hope to be one of your first readers and not your only one.
Samuel: Such blind devotion. What would Jonah think…?
But then, surely you’d know the answer to that…
Dave S–I’m sorry I don’t understand the answer. English is not my first language and I don’t understand everything that I read on puntabulous and I don’t think I like Jonah. I asked my friend about short bus. I understand him now and my friend said it was not nice.
Samuel, I can assure you, you won’t be the only reader. If Spike300 is coming back, I’ll be checking it out, even while on vacation in Toronto!
HUGS…
(a little over two hours until we leave! Squeee!)
Dilbert always makes me laugh because it reminds me of the time I worked in an office and we called my boss Dilbert behind his back. On my last day I changed the name tag on his office door and I heard he flipped out a month later when the mailroom asked him about it.
Polt: It won’t be *that* Spike300, unfortunately (fortunately?).
Enjoy your Toronto vacation without me! Sorry I had to bug out.
