Legend of the Seeker Finale – Review

seekerheader
So I spent the last three nights catching up with Legend of the Seeker. I watched the first half of the season pretty regularly as they aired, but I started slacking off during the second half, so after it ended the other week, I knew I needed to catch up. I have to say, I am so happy with the way this series has played out. No, of course it’s not the best show ever, but it’s consistently fun and exciting, and the second half of the season built up in momentum that really paid off in the finale, which actually made good on the promises that it made to its viewers all season.

Unlike Heroes, they actually got the bad guy, rather than keeping him around another 3 seasons because he was just so darn cool, to the point where he wears out his welcome and completely loses his bite. And unlike Lost, each episode is able to stand alone, but the season is a complete story as well. No cliffhangers, no hinting that the bad guy is still alive. Done and finished. And (I think) we can expect a totally new story next season. And also unlike Heroes, they actually saved some budget for the finale so no fight scenes needed to take place behind closed doors (though I am a little disappointed there wasn’t a more climactic sword fight).

But the finale didn’t need a more climactic sword fight because we’ve had plenty of great sword fights throughout the season, and this episode had an amazing plot, which was totally unexpected, but certainly a pleasant surprise. It’s not worth going into detail if you haven’t seen it, but the finale had a time-shifting story that was epic, and beautiful, and reminded me so much of The Lord of the Rings in tone, that I was truly impressed with the writing so I didn’t need a bigger fight scene to entertain me. Plus I love the Mord-Sith and this episode had six or seven of them, which is exactly the kind of bigger and better treatment finales deserve, unlike Heroes and their stupid behind closed door fight scenes (can you tell I’m bitter about that?).

So anyway, I really recommend this show. It’s all on Hulu if you’re interested, otherwise, pick it up when it comes out on DVD!

Michelle M.: You totally freaked me out there! You are such a tease.

Craig: Give them my condolences, that job was a drag.

  2. A pint?? Whenever I got a small cup of ice cream at Cold Stone, I can’t finish it! lol.

  3. Michelle M.

Enrico – I don’t think they make the Chantilly cookie anymore. Now it’s the Montieri – kind of the same but without the powdered sugar.

Guess I’ll go eat a stupid rice cake.

  4. john/Craiggers: Mama Polt once made a batch of brownies that had chocolate chip cookie dough spread over the top of them like icing and baked that way. AWESOME!

Enrickyricardo: well your stomach’s probably the size of a dime…and with the same width too. It’s no wonder you have problems finishing a WHOLE small cup of ice cream. :) Eat a cheeseburger, for God’s sake! :D

(I’m just jealous of your small petite frame, you know? I think I weighed more and was bigger than you in fifth grade.)

    HUGS…

Enrico: At least you like candy. I thoroughly approve.

Bernd: I can totally eat a whole bag of candy (and I’m not talking about the personal size bags), a pint of ice cream, or anything that is sweet in 15 min (perhaps less…but I’ll never admit it), so I hear you. This is why I try to not keep stocks of any of the above at home.

Craig: Stop trying to skew the results of the cookies vs. brownies debate. ;-)

I’ve never been to Friendly’s, we don’t have that up here. But if there are numerous vomiting children I may avoid it. Just kiddin’.

  7. john

Polt: I say this with all due respect, but i *LOVE* Mama Polt! And not for nothing, but I think I was bigger than Enrico at birth!

I’m usually not a big fan of any mix-ins but I recently had a Raspberry blizzard at a DQ in Ft. Lauderdale that had truffle pieces (The chocolate kind, not the mushroom). OMG and out of this world experience.

Enrico, did you have gastric bypass-surgery, or why is your stomach smaller then my pinkie?

I used to live right behind a restaurant called Baked Expectations. It had at least 30 – 40 kinds of cake at all time including usually 12-15 cheesecakes. Walking home from work “What shall I have for dinner? Chocolate cake? Cheesecake? Carrot Cake? Some unusual and delicious torte?” They were massive pieces too. Not very nutritionally sound but I didn’t care much. I still take my daughter there when we go back to Manitoba to visit. She’s a cheesecake nut.

  10. Tam

Bernd: I just asked my daughter about that blizzard because she had it a week or so ago. She said it was not very raspberry flavored so perhaps you had a server who was more generous with the flavors. She said it was good though.

Philip, I agree, not buying is the only way not to eat any of that terrible stuff. But I can’t stock stuff like that anyway. Once it is there it will get eaten pretty fast

  12. Tam

Bernd: Enrico is just naturally tiny.

  13. I think I was raised to see ice cream as a special treat. It does not often occur to me that I should treat myself to ice cream. I enjoy it when I have it, but I just have not been seeking it out much in recent years. I only really have ice cream when I am in a group. I guess I am a social ice cream eater. ;)

When I was a kid I loved the Cone Head ice cream at Friendlys. I also liked their Orange Roll. I have not had any of that in years. Maybe I should treat myself. Hmm….

I am not a big cake or cupcake eater either. Though I sometimes enjoy a Molten Lava Chocolate cake. I have been making cupcakes a lot recently because it is a nice easy treat to make for large groups. I recently set a new record and made 48 at once! My biggest issued with cake is that sometimes there is too much icing on it. I only like a little icing on my cake, or it is too sweet for me.

My favorite cookies are the Milano and English Schoolboy. When I was young we sometimes had them as a special tea time snack.

Tam, keep me out of Cheesecake Factories. I usually buy one piece with add’l whipped cream to go sit down somewhere outside the restaurant and indulge. White-Chocolate-wild-blueberry cheesecake, White-chocolate-raspberry-truffle-cheesecake, Tuxedo-creme-cheesecake, pralines-and Cream-macadamia-nut cheesecake. God, I’m going into diabetic shock here

Yeah, the DQ wench meant well with the raspberry flavor, the whole blizzard was more milkshake than ice-cream.

  15. Tam

Chis: I’m with you on the icing. I don’t like too much icing either. When you see those fancy cupcakes that are popular its like 2 inches of cupcake and 3 inches of icing. Ick. I like just a touch of sweet with my cupcake. 48 cupcakes!! I’m impressed. I only did that once for a bake sale. Never again. I was so tired of cupcakes by the time I got them all finished.

  16. Tam

Bernd: *drool* pralines-and-cream-macadamia-nut? White-chocolate-raspberry-truffle? *whimper* Okay, when we go to the US this summer I have to seek this place out.

At least I know where my fondness for ice-cream comes from. I had my tonsils taken out when I was 5 year old and would get ice-cream every day for a week in the hospital to numb the pain/help with the healing/whatever. So the connection: Eat ice-cream – feel better was made. Some childhood-’trauma’ is good.

  18. I expected Enrico to be small before I met him. But he was actually bigger and more sturdy (in a good way) than I expected. Maybe it is all his summer work outs or something. He also seemed to have big hands. You know what they say about men with big hands?….

…They wear big gloves! Ba dum bum! ;)

  19. Philip

bernd: I use the term “stock” loosely. I really mean that I try not to buy it. A stocking period is more like 24 hours (or less). :-)

Chris/Tam: I’m with you on the “go light with the icing”.

  20. I don’t get the whole ‘light on the icing’ idea. I’ve whipped up whole batches of chocolate icing just to eat it, no cake or anything. Though admittedly, icing does taste better when it is attached to something chocolate.

  21. The Ryan with the Cupcake

bernd: When we were young, my younger brother tasted pipe cleaner while my dad was milking cows at my grandpa’s farm. At the hospital, they gave him a popsicle to see whether he could swallow. My response was to be mad that I didn’t get a popsicle too.

  22. Chris D.: Where can I get an English Schoolboy for a special tea time snack? Hell, I’d take him as a snack ANY time of the day. (Stop it, you ALL knew I’d say it….)

    HUGS…

  23. bernd

RwaC, so does your little bro still like to suck on popsicles? A cousin of mine swallowed something poisonous once and at the hospital they induced vomiting with something mixed in OJ. He still doesn’t drink OJ.

  24. The Ryan with the Cupcake

bernd: He still will eat popsicles from time to time.

  25. I don’t have a small stomach! I just have a fast metabolism. And I eat burgers/Big Macs ALL the time btw!

Michelle M: NOOOOOO!!!! The powdered sugar was obviously the best part :( I still find them every now and then, but I guess those are the last packages EVER.

    Christ: Thanks :)

My favorite dessert at a restaurant is Chili’s Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie. Delicious! It’s a chocolate chip bar thingwa with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, caramel and nuts. I often go to Chili’s just to get that.

I also love the Brownie Obsession from Friday’s, which is similar to the Paradise Pie, but with a brownie obviously.

  26. LOL! “Christ.” It’s late.

    Chris: Thanks :)

To get back to the important task at hand (although I don’t know fi anyone goes back to read old posts when new ones pop up) the smarties blizzards are better for two important reasons: Smarties taste better than m&ms and they sort of grind up the smarties to add them into the blizzard. It’s sort of like oreo icecream, if it had entire oreos, it would be silly, so they grind it up. imagine that with smarties, but noy quite as ground up as the oreo crumbs and with chocolate sauce and everything mixed. I almost vomed when i had the m&m one, smarties or bust.

  28. Tam

    I love you Nathan.

  29. Whatever. Smarties are a lame M&M rip off. Get your own ideas Canada!

  30. Nathan: I do! But yeah, Craig needs to be more considerate and not do new posts until the conversation is completely over in the last post.
