Pushing Daisies – The Final Episodes

About two weeks ago I saw that the DVR was recording something. It was a Saturday night, so I had no idea what it could possibly be. I turned on the television and much to my surprise it was recording Pushing Daisies! I had completely forgotten that they were airing the final episodes. But you know what else I forgot? FDot already sent me the final three episodes because they already aired on BBC! He sent them to me right before my trip to San Francisco and I completely forgot about them until that time!

As I was watching the first episode full of operatic Olive and rampaging rhinos, I remembered just how much I loved this show and how sad I was to see it ending. But even though I wanted the experience of the final episodes to last forever, after watching the first episode on television, I immediately ran down to the computer to watch the last two episodes. I was completely in love. And while you could tell that these episodes were not meant to be series finales by any means, I was impressed with how much they were able to wrap up with some post-production magic (and perhaps a bit of dumb luck with the storylines timing). The final episode airs this Saturday at 10PM on ABC. I feel like a legitimate reviewer being able to actually review something before it reaches the general public!

So long Pushing Daisies! I’ll miss you terribly. But I have Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls that I haven’t seen yet, so I can still get my fill of Bryan Fuller wacky, deathy, deliciousness.

Nico: So true. I love going home to my parents where we go to the garden, dig up carrots and potatoes and cook them within 1/2 hour for dinner. I grew up on that but I think I’ve become kind of conditioned to the bland stuff we have now which is sad.

Keep it quiet, but my asshole neighbor always plants a shit load of tomatoes in their backyard and then go on vacation in August. I then sneak over and grab ripe tomatoes off the vine. (They just go rotten while they are away. I’m doing a good thing I figure.) Nothing smells or tastes as good. I’m sorry John, but we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Oh Nico, I’m so disappointed. Sigh.

Tam: I only recently started working with raw tomatoes instead of canned. I might try them out the next time I want to use tomatoes, depending on the price.

Also, I wonder why tomatoes aren’t used more often in amateur Halloween haunted houses. The seeds could be brains, and the deseeded tomato could be hearts.

Tam: Sorry, there are very few things I dislike eating; tomatoes, brussel sprouts, and avacados are chief among them.

  5. Tam on June 11, 2009 at 6:58 pm

Nico: Well, I’m with you on the brussel sprouts and avocados so I’ll let it go this time. :-) I’m also not a big fan of broccoli but I eat it because its good for you. Sigh.

  6. The Ryan with the Cupcake on June 11, 2009 at 6:59 pm

Tam: One of my favorite dishes to make is a simple broccoli pasta.

  7. Michelle M. on June 11, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Haven’t seen Pushing Daisies. It’s on the Netflix queue (keeping Veronica Mars company).
Pineapple and cantaloupe (but only when it’s ripe and juicy, hate the dry stuff you find at restaurants/hotels).
Love my vegetables, especially with butter, salt and pepper.

  8. john on June 11, 2009 at 7:18 pm

M.Nico: *blush* I didn’t know you cared. Oh, and avocados are pretty gross and guacamole is akin to the baby puke TwoPi was talking about yesterday.

Tam: I’m totally fine with you liking tomatoes, but raw, they is nasty. Have you ever cut open a raw tomato? Does it look done to you? I also submit this for your approval: http://www.nataliedee.com/051106/vegetables-i-hate-pt-one.jpg

Cooked tomatoes are OK as in tomato sauce and or gravy.

Veggies are good, but not a fan of corn or eggplant. Broccoli rabes are really good if done right.

  9. The Ryan with the Cupcake on June 11, 2009 at 7:20 pm

john: See my comment about tomatoes and houses of horror.

  10. Tam on June 11, 2009 at 7:27 pm

John: I don’t know, just doesn’t bother me I guess. I had a BLT for lunch today. :-) No mayo. I’m not sure I’ve ever even HAD eggplant. No guacamole either.

Ryan: Broccoli is a texture thing for me. Those little seedy tree parts kind of bother me, but as I said, I CAN eat and I do because its one of my daughter’s faves.

Michelle: I LOVE good pineapple. The best pineapple I ever had was on the island of Montserrat in the Caribbean. They were called black pineapples and they were very small and dark (on the outside) and had been picked from the fields that morning. It was like heaven on earth. Too bad the whole freaking island more or less blew up.

  11. Polt on June 11, 2009 at 7:29 pm

    M. Nico: “prevents them from attaining their full fruity potential; very unlike Polt” Yeah, I’ve missed my full fruity potential as well, but I doubt it because of my long shelf life. :)

    HUGS…

  12. The Ryan with the Cupcake on June 11, 2009 at 7:29 pm

Tam: I’ve knowingly had eggplant once when I used it as a thickener in a spaghetti sauce.

The best pineapple I’ve ever had was fresh of a farm in Costa Rica.

  13. Polt on June 11, 2009 at 7:31 pm

Hate broccoli, but the doctor said I should eat it, so I do. On salads and stuff, never cooked.

I hate tomatos as well. I take them off salads, sandwiches and tacos. Strangely enough though, pasta with hot tomato sauce is one of my most favorite dishes.

    HUGS…

  14. The Ryan with the Cupcake on June 11, 2009 at 7:33 pm

    Polt: I prefer broccoli cooked.

  15. Tam on June 11, 2009 at 7:37 pm

Definitely cooked. Those little seeds are bad enough cooked, raw they tip me over the edge.

  16. TwoPi on June 11, 2009 at 7:55 pm

TwoPi avidly likes avocados (and guacamole, if it is prepared well). Xi-Heather used to be an avowed guacamole hater, but it turns out she’d just never had good guacamole.

I love mexican- and southwest-style foods, but can’t eat it in restaurants — it is almost always just too nasty. (I can’t wait to go back to Mexico City. Museums? What museums? I just want to visit all the local restaurants.)

I find brussell sprouts are ok in moderation, as is asparagus. Broccoli is fantastic, especially when stir-fried with chicken and thai spices. (For that matter, almost anything might be acceptable if stir fried with chicken and thai spices.) Fresh toms are nice (esp with basil and goat cheese), but for the life of me I’ve never been able to make a decent marinara sauce from scratch.

What are we talking about? Favorite fruit! Uh, either tangelos, or kiwis. Maybe blackberries, or similar berries.

  17. TwoPi on June 11, 2009 at 7:57 pm

Oh wait, maybe coffee is my favorite fruit. (I sure love the seeds.)

  18. john on June 11, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Coffee is nasty too. I can’t figure out how something that smells so good can taste so bad.

  19. Tam on June 11, 2009 at 8:21 pm

I never drank coffee until about a year ago. And I started drinking it sometimes at work in the morning, then our admin brought in a coffee maker so it was way cheaper (we all just bring in coffee now and then) and now I drink 2-3 cups every morning. But only at work and only in the morning. At home never. I can’t make it tough so that probably contributes. But I only like it black, lukewarm and weak which grosses people out.

  20. TwoPi on June 11, 2009 at 8:28 pm

Coffee: the anti-cigar. (Or, “cigars: how can something that smells so bad taste so good, at least initially”.)

Coffee is a taste that (for some) grows on you. My mom started me on coffee at age 4. (Was I a lethargic child? I dunno.) Now I can’t do without it.

  21. Craig on June 11, 2009 at 8:30 pm

Favorite Fruit = Strawberries. I’ll never pass up a kiwi either.

  22. josh on June 11, 2009 at 8:30 pm

I use to drink coffee like whoa…I work part-time @ a restaurant so it’s a) everywhere/free, and b) a huge help when struggling to muster the energy to get through a double shift. However, I stopped drinking it for awhile and then when I tried to start up again, it gave me bad stomach achez. Boo! Whatevz…it makes my teeth feel real dirrty anywayzzz.

  23. Michelle M. on June 11, 2009 at 8:37 pm

john – I agree (of course). When I was a preschooler I loved to smell my teacher’s coffee. She must have gotten tired of my sniffing around because she offered me a taste. It was like finding out there was no Santa Claus. Blech – the taste of a thousand bitter tears.

Now hot chocolate on the other hand, is the elixir of the Gods.

  24. Enrico on June 11, 2009 at 8:40 pm

Ryan: I had fresh pineapple in Mexico. Mmm.

  25. john on June 11, 2009 at 9:01 pm

Fruit with fur is wrong. Oh and no coffee, no tea, no hot chocolate.

    Freak , I know.

  26. Polt on June 11, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Craiggers: you love strawberries TOO!?!?!?!? SEE! We’re MEANT to be together! :)

Michelle M.: I’m with you on the hot chocolate…although a nice cup of hot tea sure can please as well.

    HUGS…

  27. Xi_Heather on June 11, 2009 at 9:41 pm

I sweeten my coffee with hot chocolate mix instead of sugar. Now THAT’S good.

Berries in general are good; I’m always tempted to go to a pick your own place, until I remember that I’d have to pick them myself.

In general, any fruits or veggies that can be sold in a roadside stand are pretty good.

  28. josh on June 11, 2009 at 9:49 pm

The guy I live with {Shawn} & I picked $44 worth of strawberriez last week. We froze those betchez and are make derricious smoothies everything effing day! Yumz and a half!

  29. Enrico on June 11, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Polt: Who DOESN’T like strawberries? Stop trying to do Craig just cause he’s human and likes strawberries just like the rest of the world.

I had pomegranate for the first time a few months ago and it was SO good.

Not to get all boring and back on topic… but just wanted to thank you for bringing up Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls. I just finished True Blood and the first 2 seasons of Chuck on my Zen and needed something new… especially now that my desk TV (signal) at work is dead *sniff.* In the process of getting those 2 shows loaded up now!

And… I love avocado and broccoli and artichokes and asparagus. I hate beets. And the only day of the week that I don’t have coffee is Saturday. And only because no one makes any for me.

  31. Eternal Lizdom on June 12, 2009 at 9:26 am

Oh- and I totally use a packet of hot chocolate in my coffee, too. Swiss Miss Indulgent Collection- Dark Chocolate Sensation. And in the winter, add a little peppermint creamer and dip in a Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s.
