It turns out the MSPaint clone Paintbrush for Mac (thanks to Kári for recommending it!) still requires a little getting used to. Don’t worry, I can still use the family computer to make Super Viagra while I get accustomed to this.

And I know what you’re thinking: How could a basic paint program require getting used to? Well even though it’s a clone, I know my MSPaint so well that I can pick up on all the subtle differences, even down to the pixel widths of the lines. Yeah, I’m a bit crazy, but nothing will be able to replace my precious MSPaint!

Do you have breasts in that picture?
July 6th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Possibly
July 6th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
It looks like your rhinoplasty went horribly wrong, Craig. You are totally hip though! *smooches*
July 6th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Take off the corset and leave the drag to the professionals.
July 7th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Jere: But look how tiny his waist is…
You’ll get the hang of it Craig, it will just take some time. Have you tried copy and pasting from MS Paint files? That might make life a little easier That is assuming Paintbrush can handle the original file.
July 7th, 2009 at 12:19 am
jere: If Craig wants to wear red lipstick and green eyeshadow, I’m not going to stand in his way.

You could always get Parallels and run Windows in a virtual machine just for MS Paint.
Being a Windows software developer has tended to hold me back from going Mac. However, now that I have an iPhone, I have been thinking about wanting to write apps for it. I may consider buying a cheap Mac just so I can run the iPhone SDK.
Trivia: I used to run OS/2, many years ago. Huge props if anyone knows what that is (without looking it up). Huger props if anyone ran it.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:04 am
Craiggerz…I understand ur painz. My relationship with MS Paint is a long and healthy one and I fear to think what (my blog’s) life would be like if I had to switch to another program. Ow! Heart palpitationz!
July 7th, 2009 at 2:33 am
“Tweaking my paintbrush” …sounds like something that is nothing related to your computer….
July 7th, 2009 at 2:48 am
Jonah: Judging by Craig’s first Mac related question, I think it sounds like something related to his computer.
Wait a minute . . . I only see one of Craig’s hands.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:13 am
Eep! Significant mention on a widely read blog! I have to update my portfolio now!

Bossy is still getting used to the idea of a telephone, so she completely understands.
July 7th, 2009 at 8:05 am
Eat a sandwich man, you’re wasting away. Sometimes the tried and true is truly the best.
July 7th, 2009 at 8:30 am
Once you can do argyle in paintbrush you’ll know you’ve got it down.
July 7th, 2009 at 8:44 am
Thinner Thighs in Thirty Pixels?
July 7th, 2009 at 10:27 am
Chris: I do indeed know of this OS/2 of which you speak (I think I had the install diskettes around at some point). I didn’t actually run it myself, but I did do service work on someone’s machine. Poor IBM…can’t get any respect. *anxiously awaits props*
July 7th, 2009 at 10:48 am
LOL David!
Craig, the only way it’s going to get better is if you practice practice practice. Which means, of course, the next installment of SV&VG, or maybe two. Work won’t mind paying you to take time off for this higher calling, right?
[We're back from a family reunion in Southern Ohio -- we looked for DaveS as we passed through, but didn't see any strippers dancing by the side of the highway.]
July 7th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Mishapen but hip….that’s just how I’ve always thought of you Craiggers.
HUGS….
July 7th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Craig, you do know that you don’t need to suck it in while writing your posts ’cause we can’t see you, right?
You are still at least twice the PaintBrush artist that I am!
Chris D: Yes, and yes. You want esoteric operating systems? Have you ever run BeOS?
July 7th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Bad Day?
July 7th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Heather: Funny. Hope you had fun.
The geek-speak is getting too think in here for me. Who remembers Pong?
July 7th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Tam: I still have a 30+ year old Pong game console on my closet shelf. Prob doesn’t work but I’ve been tempted to hook it up to an old TV and see.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Today is a good day. I watched Torchwood last night, I’m ripping Jay Brannan’s new CD right now, I’m picking up David Weber’s By Heresies Distressed at lunch, and I’m flying to MN tonight.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Tam there’s a video game exhibit at the Children’s Museum in our town, and two weeks ago I played Pong there with the 9-year old. He was not impressed. I also tried my hand at Frogger and came –> <– this close to getting in the top 5 scores. (Of course, I think I was only the 6th person to play the game, but still.)
July 7th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
I was expecting Polt to offer to tweak your paintbrush.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Wow! I’ve never seen such a Big Elephant in such a small room!
I’ll be going to bed now.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Since we haven’t had a run-on post in forever, why doesn’t someone recommend some music for me to download for my road trip? Anyone? No folky stuff, not too much mellow stuff, no heavy metal.
July 7th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Tam: Rooster Olivia the Band McFly Every Avenue Driving East
July 7th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Tam: Joemo got me into “The Creeps (Get on the Dance Floor)” by Freaks. Polt (I’ll get my revenge) got me to get “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. I’ll suggest “Let Me Think About It(Club Mix)” by Ida Corr & Freddie Le Grand. “Sex on Fire” by Kings of Leon isn’t bad either. I also really love One For The Team’s cd “Build It Up”
July 7th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Tam: “no heavy metal” eliminates 99% of my music collection, but I will say that Tom Jones recorded the very best version of “Venus” ever.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Ack! No Tom Jones! Was it really necessary to say that?
Thanks John, I’ll check those out tonight. I have Poker Face though, and Let’s Dance and the new one, which I forget. Having a teen girl in the house necessitates more than a passing familiarity with Lady Gaga.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
M.Nico & Philip: Yay! Consider props appropriated! I never ran BeOS, guess I wasn’t THAT cool.
. I had to switch to Windows when I needed to run Smalltalk/V and it Required the Win32S subsystem, which OS/2’s embeded Windows did not support. It felt like a huge step backwards. It led to my current career, so it was ultimatly worth it.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Two Pi: The beginning of that song sounds like the Wonder Woman Theme.
Tam: I also love me some Goldfrapp: “Number 1″, “Ooh La La”, “Caravan Girl”, and “Strict Machine”.
When is your trip?
July 7th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Tam: Love Games by Lady Ga Ga is also pretty catchy. Check out some Peter Gabriel (sp?). Some of his newer stuff makes really good driving music. I like San Jacinto and Solsburry (sp?) Hill. Loreena McKennitt also has some really great driving songs.
July 7th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
John: We leave on the 16th and head as far south as Asheville then swoop around back up arriving back home August 3. Too many miles I don’t even want to think about and I’m probably insane for even attempting this.
Thanks Chris: I’ll look for those.
July 7th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Tam: Country?
July 7th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
I think my suggestions got caught in the spam filter. That’s what I get for linking to last.fm for every artist.
I suggested Every Avenue, Driving East, McFly, Rooster, Olivia the Band, and probably one or two more that I can’t remember.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Ryan: I unspammed it.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
I need to stop reading the overnight comments while I’m still in bed groggy and half asleep.
I totally missed Ryan’s “Judging by Craig’s first Mac related question, I think it sounds like something related to his computer. Wait a minute . . . I only see one of Craig’s hands.”
So funny! And yet so true. I love Flip4Mac. It comes in so…handy.
Have fun in MN Ryan!
July 7th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
Craig: Thank you! It definitely looks a lot different compiled into one giant string of links than it did when I was writing it.
July 7th, 2009 at 5:47 pm
Craig – you’re looking mighty concave.
Tam – Poe is good. Crowded House, Dandy Warhols. The Verve. “Cars” by Randy Newman is a fun song when you’re driving. And don’t forget “Don’t Stop Believing” to sing along with.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Ryan: Forgot to say thanks for the music recs, those are right up my alley.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Tam: I’m glad to hear that. I wasn’t sure what type of music you liked, so I picked some of my favorites that were relatively obscure. Since you vetoed the artists from my current folk/singer-songwriter phase, I dug back into my indie rock/power pop/pop punk/whatever phase from a couple of months ago.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Um, if I missed anyone thanks for the music links. I’m kind of getting tired of the same old same old so this will be great.
On the weirdness scale, I think there is something wrong with my computer. It won’t let me hear the videos that Ryan linked to, but yet it plays music using other source and YouTube is muted? WTF? Now I know why Kristen is always swearing at this computer.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Oh and no country. Fussy things we are.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I’m about to shut everything down and wait for my shuttle to arrive.
Since I won’t land until midnight, hasta mañana.
July 7th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
Tam: I gotta say, if you’re on a strip of interstate highway, driving through the middle of Ohio where there’s nothing but farmland and rolling hills and the smell of cowshit, I found that there’s nothing better to listen to than Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix) by New Order. (its the song from the beginning of the movie Blade, when Traci Lords is driving the stupid frat boy to the slaughter house where the vampire rave is taking place). It’s 10 minutes of pounding, pumping beats that just deMAND speed. Listening to it got me through a 60 miles boring stretch of Ohio in like 10 minutes.
Or maybe it just seemed that fast.
Have FUN!
HUGS…
July 7th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
TAM! Check this out: Gary Go’s “Wonderful“. Fun, feel-good music!
July 8th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Chris D: Google is coming out with yet another OS to play with. I am skeptical about the long-term viability of cloud computing, but I will be playing with it when it comes out.
