Best. Synopsis. Ever.

Ever stumble across something on the internet by mistake that just cracks you up for no reason? Well I just did, and I may be the only person who finds this funny, but I was going through IMDB and moved from Knowing, to Rose Byrne, to Adam, to Hugh Dancy, to Galahad, to the MacGyver episode titled Good Knight MacGyver, which featured this synopsis:

While researching his family’s genealogy, MacGyver discovers that his family name was disgraced during the Middle Ages. He is then knocked unconscious and, not surprisingly, is transported through dreams to the time of King Arthur. Here he must confront some stubborn knights, convince Arthur that he is a friend, and set out in search of his forefathers.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single episode of MacGyver, but this synopsis makes me want to run out and buy every single DVD. It’s just so ridiculous! I love it! Besides, anything has to be better than those god awful MacGruber skits on SNL. Seriously, does anyone think those are funny? And why do they think making a movie out of it is a good idea?

“And why do they think making a movie out of it is a good idea?”

For the love of all that is holy, stop the insanity! Where’s Susan Powter when you need her?

  2. Tam on July 7, 2009 at 4:18 pm

I wasn’t a huge MacGyver fan but I’ve seen a few, not that one unfortunately. The things that man could do with a stick of gum, a paperclip and some hair gel.

  3. M. Nicodemus on July 7, 2009 at 4:43 pm

Wow, I was a huge MacGyver fan when I was younger, but I don’t remember that episode. Makes me want to watch the series again just to see how cheesy it really was :)

Speaking of TV series, I just finished disc three of Torchwood Season 1, and I have been watching Dr. Who on instant wach while I am waiting for NetFlix to send me the next DVD. I am totally loving Torchwood! I really hope they focus more on Ianto ’cause his character so far is the most interesting (and he is rather easy on the eyes too).

  4. M. Nicodemus on July 7, 2009 at 4:55 pm

Oh, and speaking of random internet finds, check this out.

Whenever people talk about McGuyver, I can’t help but thinking about the time my high school chemistry teacher tried to teach us how to make a makeshift candle. He introduced the problem as McGuyver in the dark with a piece of string, a match, and a jar of petroleum jelly. One of my friends raised her hand and asked, “What was McGuyver doing alone in the dark with a jar of petroleum jelly?” He didn’t know what to say in response to that.

    M. Nico.: I watched the first episode of the miniseries last night. Ianto gets a fair amount of character development.

  6. The Ryan with the Cupcake on July 7, 2009 at 4:58 pm

    M. Nico.: Rotating frames of reference suck.

Now, I really should start packing.

  7. Craig on July 7, 2009 at 5:06 pm

LOL! @ “What was McGuyver doing alone in the dark with a jar of petroleum jelly?”

What are you packing for? Where are you going?

  8. M. Nicodemus on July 7, 2009 at 5:07 pm

The Ryan With the Cupcake: LOL! I don’t know why, but that comic just struck me as funny :) Have a great time in MN!

  9. Sven on July 7, 2009 at 5:10 pm

MacGuyver sounds silly. Everyone knows King Arthur wasn’t from the middle ages, and I can imagine this episode ending with some cheesy “was it all a dream or not” where he wakes up and no one knows what he’s talking about but he’s still holding Excalibur. Oooooooh.

    M. Nico: I’m not properly awake yet – I thought it said Mr Bono. It still seemed like a reasonable situation though.

Speaking of “so bad it’s good”–has anybody seen Troll 2? It had nothing to do with the first Troll. And, in fact, it technically has no trolls in it (they are goblins). It is incredibly bad but extremely entertaining. They even made a documentary about it “Best Worst Movie”. If you haven’t seen it, I would strongly recommend it.

  11. Michelle M. on July 7, 2009 at 5:51 pm

That sounds like the plot to A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court.

    M. NIco – that cartoon is awesome.

    Cupcake – Have a great trip : ).

  12. Tam on July 7, 2009 at 6:18 pm

    Have a good trip Ryan.

Funny cartoon Nico. Torchwood is great and I think Ianto’s role will be much bigger in a week or so WHEN I DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO IT!!!! Grrr.

  13. Polt on July 7, 2009 at 7:24 pm

Cupcake: NO SPOILERS ON TORCHWOOD!!!! How are you even able to watch it now??? Damn lucky bastard.

Have a fun and safe trip!

    HUGS…

MacGyver is the bestest ever! The movie was awesome. It’s weird to watch these days though with the bad hair and the giant cell phones. Or maybe it is even better now.

We had Science Olympics in high school (second place!) and one of the challenges was a macgyver challenge and we had to syphon “gas” from one container to another using a bunch of objects that were on hand. The correct solution was to take the tubes that were to small on their own and connect them with pen casings. True Story. I even have the t-shirt.

  15. Dustin on July 7, 2009 at 9:21 pm

My mom loved McGuyver, therefore I had to watch them all :) It’s not a bad show, and RDA is a hottie, but he has a mullet throughout it.

This episode is where we finally learned his first name was Angus.

  16. Dustin on July 7, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Oops, my website is not yahoo.com lol.

  17. jere on July 7, 2009 at 9:33 pm

I must have watched Troll about 200 times as a kid. I’m not sure I ever saw Troll 2, but now I want to track it down.

My science teacher only ever taught us to make things that would explode and/or burn down the school. He was the head of the county teacher’s union and quite certain that nothing he ever did would get him fired.

  18. josh on July 7, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Hey! Not all TV show-based moviez are terrible! “The Brady Bunch Movie” and “A Very Brady Sequel” are modern day classix en mi libro!

  19. Paul on July 7, 2009 at 11:28 pm

Is there some magical movie producer that shits piles of money for use by any SNL cast member with an idea that can be stretched out to a 90 minute movie!!
I think Sandler had the best track record and at best he was 50-50.
If I ever meet Will Ferrell I will kick him so hard in the nuts that the lodge in the back of his throat, just for “Land of the Lost”. I was going to do that for “Bewitched” but Stewie beat me to it.

  20. Michelle M. on July 7, 2009 at 11:57 pm

Paul – I love that Stewie clip.

josh – The Brady Bunch movie was funny. Gary Cole and Shelly Long made a fantastic Mike and Carol.

  21. john on July 7, 2009 at 11:59 pm

Nicolle: “Nilbog” most creative name EVAR for a town! That movie was reeeaaaallly bad, but so bad it was funny.

  22. john on July 8, 2009 at 12:20 am

Polt: You’re going to like Torchwood…

  23. Mel on July 8, 2009 at 1:15 am

I never much got into MacGyver, but they played a dubbed version when I was studying in Spain forever ago. I just loved the voice over for the title – a deep bass man’s voice saying “MacGEEbehr”.

  24. Polt on July 8, 2009 at 8:13 am

john: I KNOW that…I jsut can’t wait to see it…how are people seeing now on this side of the ocean????

    HUGS…

  25. Nicolle on July 8, 2009 at 8:31 am

Jere–Despite the lack of any connection between the plots of Troll and Troll 2, they released them on a joint DVD, so when I got it on Netflix I watched both of them. The first Troll was alright–not good but not as deliciously bad as Troll 2.

John–The best line in Troll 2: “You can’t piss on hospitality!”

  26. ScottieC on July 8, 2009 at 9:52 am

Oh no! Am I the only one that will come to MacGruber’s defence? Those sketches were short, clever and usually got a chuckle out of me. That being said, does MacGruber need his own film? No. MacGruber works best in short format.. as do most SNL skits.. which is why SNL movies generally suck.

  27. Nathan on July 8, 2009 at 11:13 am

    They’re making a MacGruber movie! Oh dear…..

  28. David on July 8, 2009 at 12:23 pm

    M. Nico: Love the cartoon.

Yes, RDA was totally do-able. I didn’t watch the show much but swooned over photos when I saw them. And he became dad-ilicious in the StarGate series.

Heh, RDA, like in “get your daily dose.”

  29. The Ryan With The Cupcake on July 8, 2009 at 1:46 pm

    Polt: Alien technology.

  30. FDot on July 8, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Polt: How do you think I get all those Torchwood audio plays when they’re not available in the US yet?

And Troll 2? Wow, that film makes Italian horror look like Citizen Kane.

Josh: The Brady Bunch movies? You’ve got good taste.
Still though, my favorite line: They’re eating her… and then they’re going to eat me… OH MY GOD!

  31. M. Nicodemus on July 8, 2009 at 2:27 pm

The Ryan With the Cupcake: Good to see you made it to MN, I hope airport security wasn’t too bad :)

Troll 2? I want to see Hobgoblins 2 after watching the MSTK review of the original Hobgoblins.

  32. Michelle on July 8, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Nicolle: Thanks for reminding me about Troll 2. I put it at the top of my Netflix list. I love movies that are so bad that they are good. It seems to be something that happens more often in horror movies than any other genre. A bad drama is just boring, a bad comedy not funny but a bad horror movie can be just fun.

  33. Nicolle on July 8, 2009 at 2:34 pm

FDot–LOL on the quote–I loved the guy in the flower pot. Especially when he told his friend to drag him (in the pot) out of the creepy house.

  34. Polt on July 8, 2009 at 2:54 pm

Cupcake: Damn you, you spoiler spouting bastard!

FDot: Well I kinda figured getting the audio only versions and watching the episodes now was all done the same way…but I can’t get either that way! Thank Captain Jack Harkness, I have friends like you to help me out! :)

    HUGS…

  35. Craig on July 8, 2009 at 3:01 pm

Can I put my name on a list to receive bootleg Torchwood copies? I don’t even get BBC America :-(

  36. Tam on July 8, 2009 at 3:50 pm

Me too Craig. Sigh. Although you can usually see it on-line which I may have to do unless Space replays it shortly after its on up here.

  37. Ray on July 8, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Whoa, I can only imagine that episode must’ve been a final season-series grasping at straws episode. I have an urge to see that now…

Paul: After Bewitched, I refuse to watch any movie with Will Ferrell in it, just because I irrationally blame him for making me hate a Nicole Kidman movie.

  38. Cincinnati NAMjA on July 8, 2009 at 6:01 pm

The allure of this show was that the star would figure out how to get out of any type of situation with the minimal number of tools. Towards the end of its run, it began to get a bit ridiculas and predictable.

  39. Stephen on July 9, 2009 at 3:00 am

Don’t do it! MacGyver was awful!!!

They did a programme set in London and the continuity was non existent!

  40. Avitable on July 9, 2009 at 1:02 pm

    I love MacGruber.

  41. Craig on July 9, 2009 at 1:07 pm

    Of-fucking-course you do!

  42. Avitable on July 9, 2009 at 1:11 pm

I think I’ve figured out that you just don’t appreciate irony as a type of humor.

  43. Craig on July 9, 2009 at 1:20 pm

I can appreciate the irony in you running a humor blog and yet having a terrible sense of humor.

    Oh snap!

    But really, MacGruber suuuuuucks.

  44. Avitable on July 9, 2009 at 1:25 pm

Humor blog? You mean my deeply personal blog where I pour my heart out every day until I cry?
