Holy Random Stuff Batman!

1. So my brothers and their families have been in town all week, which is why posting has been light and boring as of late. We have five (read: FIVE!) kids six years old and younger staying at our house, which is just as fun and hectic as you can imagine.
2. It’s great because we use the pool more in this one week then we do for the whole summer. But I came to the realization that most of our pool toys are water weapons of some sort or another. I think that says something about our family. And when we aren’t shooting each other with water cannons, we’re competing against each other with stupid human tricks involving catching balls in midair while jumping off the diving board.
3. We went to the Museum of Natural History on Monday, which is my favorite place in the whole wide world, and it was great to see the kids see everything for the first time. The best part is obviously the dinosaurs.
4. Tonight we’re going on a dinner cruise around Manhattan with my Mom’s side of the family. She’s one of seven, so there should be about 60 of us. Open bar. No kids allowed. Should be fun!
5. In non-family related news I have all the So You Think You Can Dances recorded on my DVR but I haven’t watched any of them yet. I’m contemplating just erasing them because — believe it or not — I think this past season of TV wore me out. I’m actually looking forward to a few months without a TV schedule and just catching up on DVDs.
6. This Louis Vuitton ad featuring Sally Ride, Buzz Aldrin, and Jim Lovell makes me really happy:
I just find it so inspiring. As long as I pretend it isn’t a Louis Vuitton ad.
7. Who else is excited about the Director’s Cut of Watchmen? Luckily New York is one of the cities they’re gonna show it in theaters, so I’ll be able to see it on the big screen again. It’s ridiculous how much I love that movie. The opening montage set against The Time They Are A-Changin’ alone is worth the price of admission.

I’m totally with you about the opening montage of Watchmen. I found a Japanese site that has it available, and I’ve watched it repeatedly since the movie…although not since early May, so it might not be up there anymore.
I think a video of the catching of the balls in midair over the pool is required now, don’t you?
Open bar, dinner cruise, lotsa relatives….if that doesn’t have ‘drunken uncle singing karaoke’ written all over it, I don’t know what does!
HUGS…

Sounds like a wild and wooly week of family. All those kids? Eeek.
We really enjoyed the museum and the dinos are the best, my only complaint? All those damn kids and their families. LOL It is always so busy but amazing exhibits.
Have fun on the cruise. Hope no one falls overboard although it would be a great family story for years to come.
By Xi_Heather, July 9, 2009 @ 9:38 am
It sounds like a blast. I’m a little blown away by having 60 close members of your family in one place: I think we had that many at our family reunion last summer, but there were plenty of second and third cousins to get there.
(That picture is great — I wouldn’t know a Louis Vuitton bag from a Target special, so it’s not that distracting.)
By GoKitty, July 9, 2009 @ 9:53 am
The LV bag, Icare, is actually really cute but I prefer it in damier. Of course, I’d rather spend that money on a Goyard than a little monogram travel case.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 9:58 am
Ummm. Are you speaking English GoKitty?
By Enrico, July 9, 2009 @ 10:03 am
You shouldn’t delete SYTYCD! You should watch it and love Evan like I do.
By Mary Beth (Cats, Books, Life is Good), July 9, 2009 @ 10:20 am
Have you heard of Watson Adventure Tours? We did their Murder at the Met(ropolitan Museum of Art – not opera) where you had to find clues in the paintings. They do some geared towards kids at the different museums and in Central Park and they’re lots of fun (www.watsonadventures.com).
PS Watson Adventures, you can send my check to …

That dinner cruise sounds hella frackin’ balls-to-the-walls awesome! I’m pretty jealous. I love family gatherings with open bars! They are the very best.
By piersgavestonjr, July 9, 2009 @ 11:28 am
This sounds like a good time for an off topic comment.
I have recently revived my NSFWblog. There is a feature this week about the bloggies, and what happened to the contestants. It was an excuse to post some videos and pictures. Did you know that if you go into the embed code of Vimeo you can make the screen almost any size you want?
I saw a trailer for “Bruno” recently. He traded an ipod for a baby. If you get tired of any of the kids, that might be something to consider.
By Michelle, July 9, 2009 @ 11:35 am
Once in a blue moon we disagree on a movie. Don’t hate me but I found Watchmen, unwatchable. It was too dark & I couldn’t stand the characters. Maybe I should have read the graphic novel first.
When I think of Dinner cruises I picture Steve Caroll competing with the captain and ending up handcuffed to the railing in that early episode of the Office. Was that the one he danced in? Hilarious. Hope you have a great time!
By Craig, July 9, 2009 @ 12:05 pm
Polt: I adhere to a strict no karaoke policy.
Tam: I thought the same thing about GoKitty’s comment. There were a lot of words in there I didn’t understand.
Enrico: I’m sure I’ll love him, but that’s the problem. It’ll be another show I’m addicted to!
Mary Beth: That sounds awesome! I did a dinner mystery back in college and it was so much fun.
Michelle: Blasphemy! I don’t think we can be cousins/friends anymore.
I was thinking of that episode too. The Booze Cruise!
By Craig, July 9, 2009 @ 12:36 pm
OMG: http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/2009/07/07/face-slide/
Thanks to Josherz for introducing me to that site!
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 12:54 pm
Bwahahahaha That’s priceless. I’m so mean, I’m still giggling. The comments were funny too.
By GoKitty, July 9, 2009 @ 2:41 pm
Craig, on some level you understand it. You just have to tap that gay potential. Just like I have no care about flowers but I bet, if push came to shove, I could whip up a floral design that could make Elton John weep.
Hmm, have you seen the awkward boners site? http://www.awkwardboners.com
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 3:04 pm
And people wonder why girls are attracted to guys that their fathers hate.
“Hey Dad, tell me again how funny that pic is while I’m banging Dylan!”
By TwoPi, July 9, 2009 @ 3:11 pm
That Vutton ad would be better if they were all sitting on a 65 Ford Mustang.
(Sally Ride was 15 when Wilson Pickett had that hit — oh the eternal horrors of high school!)
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 3:28 pm
i probably shouldn’t admit that I also really enjoy the awkward boners site. I also enjoy thisiswhyyou’refat.com
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 4:02 pm
I Love that you used the pic of Burt Ward as Robin. Before I even knew what gay was, I knew that seeing Robin on TV made me feel strange things in my nether regions.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 4:06 pm
I can’t access that site at work. Sigh.
We check out that “thisiswhyyouarefat” site every now and then. The things I saw at the NY State Fair scared me one year. I’ve never seen so much grease in my life. Seriously, fried Twinkies with chocolate sauce on them? Fried Mars bars? Fried EVERYTHING. We found the one lone Mexican stand in amongst the grease.
Mark: He was cute but Batman was my guy. Manly I guess.
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 4:10 pm
pish, dick ward was where it was at. Honestly, if I ever see deep fried Mars Bars for sale, I will probably get one. Everyone that has had one has said it is delicious. It is like a rite of passage.
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 4:12 pm
and, I meant BURT ward. Freudian slip, I guess.
By David, July 9, 2009 @ 4:13 pm
I so had a crush on Burt Ward back in the day.
By David, July 9, 2009 @ 4:17 pm
And if I’m invited to a party and there is a “no karaoke” rule, I would have to decline.
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 4:18 pm
Tam: You’ve never tried a deep fried cheeseburger? Shocking! But then I’m from the South, we fry everything. My favorite hors d’oeuvres are cheese fritters. Take a cube of cheddar cheese, wrap in bacon, stick with a toothpic to hold the bacon on, dip in flour then tempura batter and deep fry till golden brown.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 4:22 pm
Mark: Damn, now that sounds good. When I was living in the Czech Republic a common “street food” is smazeny cyr. You take a big round slice of cheese (gouda type of cheese) about the size of a hamburger patty, then bread it and deep fry and eat it like a burger. I’m sure my heart seized just eating it but as a treat, I had no complaints.
I’m sure we’ll get our share of fried foods when we hit the south in a couple of weeks. I’m just hoping we don’t get beat up for giggling at everyone’s accents. Its just so damn adorable to us. We’ll be asking all kinds of dumb questions just to hear people talk.
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 4:22 pm
Nathan: That slip is understandable. Robin had a much better package than Batman.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 4:24 pm
Nathan: Dick Grayson, Burt Ward, natural slip. But Freudian is more fun.
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 4:25 pm
Tam: The first time I talked to Dave S. on the phone I think he was taken aback by my accent. At one point he asked, “where are you from again”.
And I need to get to the Czech Replublic Pronto!
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 4:27 pm
I was just googling burt ward and apprently he had to do all of the stunts himself because they his mask was so small they couldn’t find a good enough stunt double. Also, apparently he was in a lot of soft-core porn movies. Now you know.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 4:28 pm
Mark: I think Dave has an accent.
Slight, but its there. We Canadians are accentless (unless you’re from Newfoundland but that’a a whole nother ball of wax) and Polt is not going to convince me otherwise. (He has one too.)
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 4:29 pm
Nathan: Really? A small head and soft porn? Are those compatible?
By jere, July 9, 2009 @ 4:37 pm
The idea of 60 members of my family and an open bar sounds terrfiying… but only because most of my family is Mormon and it would be up to me and about 5 of my cousins to drink all the booze while getting judgmental stares from our parents and grandparents.
All this talk of Robin’s crotch reminds me of the only picture I’ve seen of Brody Jenner that made me think “he’s hot.”
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 4:37 pm
Tam almost made me spit out my Diet Mt. Dew!!!!
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 4:41 pm
Jere: I don’t know about Brody, but I’m old enough to remember Bruce when he was in the Olympics. Oh My!!
And Jan-Michael Vincent in “The Worlds Greatest Athlete”.
Ahhh, memories!
By Michelle, July 9, 2009 @ 4:44 pm
Mary Beth: I checked out the Watson Adventures site. They sound so cool. I’d love to do that sometime. How about you, Craig?
And Craig, now you know how I felt when you said that you hated Donnie Darko.
For anyone who did like Darko, I just watched the sequel S. Darko which follows Donnie’s sister who starts having her own visions while trying to cope with her brothers death. Definitely not as great as Donnie but still enjoyable.
By Michelle M., July 9, 2009 @ 4:48 pm
Sounds like busy week. Have fun on the booze cruise! I wouldn’t worry about the postings being “light and boring” . Some of your more prolific commenters have been busy with Barbie, so the comments have been light as well.
I had to look up the items that GoKitty (who is a guy!) mentioned. Lookie what I found:
http://www.luxist.com/2009/03/18/goyard-barbie-trunk/
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 4:51 pm
It’s true. People from Ontario are accentless. That’s how I hear it anyways.
By Howard, July 9, 2009 @ 4:58 pm
Jealous! Cameron got tired me going on an on about how they were cutting the comic book back into the film. Please let us know how it plays on the big screen.
By Michelle M., July 9, 2009 @ 5:32 pm
So are GoKitty (he’s a guy!) and I the only ones watching NYCPrep?
Mark (you’re probably asleep)?
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 5:43 pm
Michelle M.: Yes, Yes, Oh God I feel sooo dirty. But I’m only watching till PC comes to his senses and admits he’s gay.
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 5:58 pm
And Sebastian, OMG, what a 16 yo loser. From what I’ve seen of your Dad that 80′s hair won’t last, and those cro-magnon eyebrows???
It’s good that you’re getting what you can now, because two years from now even the lazy eyed chicks won’t give you the time of day!
By GoKitty, July 9, 2009 @ 6:03 pm
I wrote this on queerty too, but I’m not totally convinced PC is gay. Yes, in this week’s episode he was throw these adoring looks at his cute hispanic male friend. Yes, he refused to dance, sometimes talk, with “cute” younger girls and ended up dancing with anolder chubby lady instead. Yes, he dresses impeccibly. If at some point in the show they say he’s picking out his own clothes then I’ll lean more towards “gay”. If he has a stylist, then I’m leaning towards “straight”. The rich can always afford to pay someone to have taste for them. The other stuff I can attribute to his wealth and upbringing and not wanting to mingle outside his social standing.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 6:03 pm
Mark: I’m concerned about you. LOL I’m so glad I only watch Space and the Food Network.
By Michelle M., July 9, 2009 @ 6:07 pm
Sebastian – I want to give him a bowl cut. Jessie annoys me the most. Is it weird that I would like PC more if he was gay?
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 6:15 pm
Michelle M.: I totally agree!! What annoys me most about Jessie is the way she talks about Operation Smile, like she has a damn thing to do with it other than her parents donating money. And she has that annoying habit of getting the “gravelly voice” at the end of almost every sentence. The last word of every sentence is dragged out with a gravelly sound…Hate It!
And I would like PC too, if he would just come out as the pretentious queen we all know he really is.
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 6:18 pm
Tam: I promise I’m OK. I swear. There’s no need for an intervention. I can handle this by myself. Really….I can.
By Michelle M., July 9, 2009 @ 6:30 pm
And PC’s blonde ex-girlfriend… that voice! Worse than fingernails on a chalkboard.
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 6:51 pm
Michelle M.: Jessie is the blond ex “girlfriend” When you said Jessie annoys you the most were you possibly thinking of Kelli? She’s the stupid girl chasing after Sebastian. Her worthless parents live in the Hamptons and let their 16 yo daughter live in the city with her 17 yo brother. Of course they visit every weekend, so it’s OK. Child Protective Services, where are you. If her parents weren’t rich the little hoochie would be in Foster Care.
And what about the under age drinking on the show. How does Bravo get away with that?
By Mark, July 9, 2009 @ 6:56 pm
The drinking may not be explicit, but it’s definitely implied.
By Michelle M., July 9, 2009 @ 7:29 pm
Mark – not Jessie. I’m pretty sure her name was Amanda. She’s not a regular. They met up in a bar and he was talking about dating out of his circle. It was last week’s episode.
Actually, I find them all annoying. I was starting to like Taylor a little (especially when she commented on buying clothes cheaper at Target) until she started talking about landing a rich husband. Ugh.
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 8:04 pm
I dunno Michelle, I could go for a rich husband…
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 8:57 pm
So could I Nathan.
By Michelle M., July 9, 2009 @ 10:18 pm
Yeah. Me too. I guess. Sorry Mr. M.
By Tam, July 9, 2009 @ 10:47 pm
These tweets from Craig are like being there but without the hangover tomorrow. Amanda, you go girl!
By Nathan, July 9, 2009 @ 11:27 pm
it’s not like being there enough! I want a puntabulous booze cruise!
By M. Nicodemus, July 10, 2009 @ 1:31 am
Have fun on the booze cruise! I hope you took tomorrow off of work
Enrico: I second that!! You must watch SYTYCD, and the Mrs. LOVES Evan (she says that he looks a lot like me, but no way can I dance like that)
Michelle: I love Donnie Darko, it was a brilliant movie; although most people I know had to peruse the website (which won a Webbie back in the day) to make sense of the movie.
By josh, July 10, 2009 @ 1:47 am
I think we should plan a gay Puntabulous (feat. Michelle & Tam) cruz! Only instead of drinking and riding a boat, we lash out @ strangaz while walking around New York. Any takerz?!
By Tam, July 10, 2009 @ 7:52 am
I wish I’d known you in April Josh. You could have come to the city with Enrico and hung with us. Next time.
(Don’t know when that will be though.)
By Craig, July 10, 2009 @ 8:20 am
Booze Cruise was SO much fun last night! I think a Puntabulous Booze Cruise is an excellent idea!
Michelle: I’m up for a Watson Adventure!
By Polt, July 10, 2009 @ 8:33 am
I’m all for the Puntabuboozecruise!
And Tam, yes indeed, Ottawians (Is that right?) DO have an accent, much like Torontoians. I just call it the Canadian accent, and smile inside when I hear it cause it’s so damn cute. SOunds strangely like this girl I knew who grew up in Bimiji Minnesota.
I figured out Dave S. grew up in Michigan before I ever asked him just cause some of his accent reminded me of my Fairy Godfather Mark’s accent, and he grew up in MIchigan.
I’ve been accused of having a Southern accent by a chick in Erie PA of all places. But she was running a register at a convience store, so what does she know anyway. But my cute Asian buddy Ed that lives in Toronto hit my accent on the head: he called it Appalacian. Which I suppose is not only accurate, but quite disturbing as well.
HUGS….
By Xi_Heather, July 10, 2009 @ 10:17 am
I want to hear everyone talk now.
By Tam, July 10, 2009 @ 11:08 am
Twitter has voice messaging now. There should be a Puntabulous channel on Twitter (not that I know anything about Twitter) but we could all record the exact same message and then compare accents.
By Bradford, July 10, 2009 @ 12:00 pm
That Louis V ad reminds me of An American Tail….”Somewhere, out there…”
By TwoPi, July 10, 2009 @ 6:03 pm
Can we hear Craig being a LIL bit TIPsy?
