Open Wide for Some Random Stuff!

1. I’ve received some really awesome guest posts for my month off next month, but I don’t have nearly the number of posts needed to have a post for everyday. So if you’re on the fence about writing one, or think I won’t like or need one from you, you’re wrong! E-mail me a guest post to add to the list!

2. We had our very first block party this weekend and I had a lot more fun than I was anticipating. It’s amazing what good food, music, and piƱa coladas can do. Now that I think of it, how was I not expecting to have fun?

3. I tweeted about it, but I figured I’d mention it on here. Hush was the scariest episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer ever! I watched it during the week I had the house to myself and that was a very bad idea! I started off with the lights out, but it didn’t take long for me to turn them back on. The Gentlemen were so frightening! But it was also a really funny episode too, with the slideshow being particularly brilliant. Spike made the opening credits finally, which is great because I love him. And Anya is turning out to be a really funny addition to the cast also. Tara has also been introduced and I finally feel a little less spoiled knowing what I know about Willow.

4. Speaking of spoilers, don’t even get me started on Torchwood because I still haven’t seen it and I’ve been spoiled. Ugh. Don’t spoil it any further in the comments though! I’ll be watching it soon enough (thanks to Donya!) and we can talk about it all you want. Damn you Entertainment Weekly and random Tweeters! And damn you Cablevision for not having BBC America so I could avoid the whole spoiler situation from the get go!

5. Me and Michelle saw G-Force this weekend, and it was loads of fun. The commercials don’t do it nearly the justice it deserves. The plot was a million times more coherent than Transformers, and dare I say, the action was better too. And the spy stuff was more James Bondian than the latest James Bond. And OMG talking guinea pigs!

6. I also watched the Director’s Cut of Watchmen over the weekend. It was brilliant. Lots of stuff added here and there. There was a really awkward addition to Rorschach’s investigating the Comedian’s murder scene in the beginning, but other than that, the additions all enhanced an already great movie. The best being the murder of Hollis Mason, which was so incredibly well done.

7. So far the final Super Viagra installment is 75 panels long, and I haven’t even gotten through the flashbacks yet. There’s still a climactic fight scene to do! So this one will be quite a doozy! I’m aiming to have it ready for Friday, for my last day before August begins.

I’m so happy that you’re digging Buffy. The slideshow was very funny.

I read the Torchwood spoiler in EW too! And I’ve only watched 3 episodes so far! Bastards!

I’m also finished with my first guest post – 34 panels so far! Then I have 2 more I want to do. And one featuring the Puntabugang, and so…

aside from the the usual suspects, do any commenters want to lend their photo to my post?? I would dearly love to cut off your head and paste it elsewhere…You can email me at michelle@mmckee.net, or just volunteer in comments : ).

  2. The Infamous Dr. Para on July 27, 2009 at 9:01 am

I’d do a guest post, but let’s face it, remember what happened when I was gonna get around to making Dr. Para a contender for the strip, yeah….

I went to a friend’s block party this weekend … what a mess, that’s all I’m saying about that one.

Buffy is great and all, but True Blood sir, get into it, love it, damn it!

EW is such a pointless magazine, and yet I have a subscription til Oct of next year for some reason.

I saw Harry Potter this weekend and sorta enjoyed it … and then I saw Bruno … so awkward, way too spaced for funny parts, and just so ridiculous.

Can’t wait for the next Super installment, those are always the best posts to stumble upon hazily at 6 A.M.

There’s my thoughts, it’s Monday morning and the day already sucks, so procrastination is in full bloom atm.

  3. Polt on July 27, 2009 at 9:24 am

Craggers, what was the awkward Rorshach scene? I don’t recall it.

    HUGS..

  4. Craig on July 27, 2009 at 9:31 am

It was when Rorschach was on the ledge about to jump out of the building when the cop shoots him from point blank range in the back (then there was a really awkward pause) and then Rorschach is gone. It was a good idea but just very poorly executed.

  5. Michelle on July 27, 2009 at 9:57 am

I’m so glad you enjoyed G-Force too since it was my choice. I wish they had this movie when I was a kid and we had guinea pigs. I thought they missed an opportunity to make it more touching (like Bolt) but the action, humor and adorableness was great. The humans in cars chasing the guinea pigs in their hamster bowl suped up ride was worth the price of admission alone.

What were some of the funny lines we talked about after? I was trying to tell Mom and kept messing them up. I’m so bad at remembering quotes anymore. Too old! I need one of those bowls that Dumbledore had to hold the information overflow.

  6. Craig on July 27, 2009 at 10:04 am

I think my favorite was “This wheel sucks!” and of course there was “Son, if you ever have the opportunity to destroy humanity…” I also liked: “Can you call that one in?”

  7. GoKitty on July 27, 2009 at 10:33 am

I think I may rewatch Buffy again.. for like the 4th time straight through. I do like Dollhouse but it will never a Buffy. I’m still getting used to Angel, as much as I hate the character.

I have to second True Blood. Its getting so good and I think there will be a big payoff next Sunday. I could actually do without Sookie and just have Eric as the main character (along with Godric).

  8. The Ryan with the Cupcake on July 27, 2009 at 10:57 am

When I saw the previews for G-Force, I thought it looked interesting but had a lot of toilet humor.

  9. The Infamous Dr. Para on July 27, 2009 at 11:05 am

GoKitty: Yeah, Sookie is getting a little Bellaesqe, but hopefully the shake up will make things a bit more interesting. Now, I can do without the Church of the Sun and Jason being just retarded. MaryAnn needs to grab hold and run the town into the ground imo and make that the primary story.

  10. Craig on July 27, 2009 at 11:06 am

Ryan: Exactly. There was hardly any toilet humor at all, and a lot of it was really clever. The humor was a lot cleverer than say…Transformers.

  11. The Ryan with the Cupcake on July 27, 2009 at 11:12 am

Craig: I’ll keep that in mind, but that will amount to not recoiling against perceived low-brow humor when given an opportunity to watch it rather than seeking opportunities to watch it.

  12. Paul on July 27, 2009 at 11:12 am

I have been lucky enough to not hear anything about Torchwood yet, but I do spend a lot of time with my fingers in my ears singing “la la la la la la la la la la la !!!”

  13. Michelle on July 27, 2009 at 11:45 am

That’s great! thanks for remembering. I loved those lines/parts too!

  14. josh on July 27, 2009 at 11:46 am

“Open wide for some random stuff?” That’s not the first time I’ve heard that! Harharharharharcriezcriezcriezharharharharwherehasmyinnocencegoneharharharharhar!

  15. Craig on July 27, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Speaking of opening wide, when are we hanging out Josh? Hey yo!

  16. vuboq on July 27, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I have 8 billion and four panels left for my guest post…

What’s the best way to send it to you (when it gets finished), Craig? In the body of the email with pix as attachments? As a word doc?

  17. David on July 27, 2009 at 12:16 pm

Yes, that Buffy episode of Hush! So creepy! The scene where the cute college boy is attacked and he can’t scream. Still keeps me up at night.

Glad to hear G-Force was good, since it topped the box office and I didn’t want to have to hate America again.

75 panels for the final SV/VG episode? Maybe you should break that into two or more installments. That’s a lot to get through in one post.

  18. Craig on July 27, 2009 at 12:20 pm

vuboq: Send it in the body of an email with the pics as attachments. Just be sure to let me know where the pics belong. Can’t wait to see it!

David: Yeah, originally it was supposed to be two installments (getting me to an even 10, which was the goal) but I think the theme really comes together when it’s all done together.

  19. john on July 27, 2009 at 12:29 pm

I can’t WAIT until Friday!!! Going out with a bang I see.

I’m watching True Blood, but am not really caring for much of what is going on. The Maryann story line is interesting and I love Michelle Forbes, but they need to speed it up a bit. I don’t buy the current Jason storyline. Sure, he is no scholar, but I don’t think he is quite *this* dumb. I missed last night’s episode, but will catch up tonight.

  20. Enrico on July 27, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Anya is really funny! I remember being iffy about her at first, but she is so funny and I really love her character now.
And Tara is amazing! So sweet. She’s one of my fave characters as well.

And btw, we’re hanging out (with Josh) as soon as Josh makes some time. He works every day but Monday!

  21. GoKitty on July 27, 2009 at 12:40 pm

    Oh Anya, how misunderstood you were. You didn’t deserve certain things that happened! :}

Tara was always very milquetoast to me. If I had witchy powers, I would not be the timid little puppy she always was. I also wouldnt have such stringy hair.

  22. josh on July 27, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Craigz: Thursdayz are probz the best night (though not this thurzday) for me when I’m in the city. Maybe Enricoskatez and any other PuntaPeepz in the area can meet up with us and we can go get dinna and gozzip! Lovez it!?!?!?

  23. Craig on July 27, 2009 at 1:45 pm

    Lovez it

  24. M. Nicodemus on July 27, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Craig: I will see if I can come up with something to post for you, but I make no guarantees that you will not lose readership due to extreme lameness. I can’t wait to see SV and VG on Friday!!

Michelle: I would love to send you a photo, I will see what I can find (it took me a few hours to find one two-year-old photo to send Craig for Starship Puntabulous ’cause I just don’t get many photos taken of me)

  25. Tam on July 27, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Okay, I have to get my act together tonight. No more vacation and being a tourist, hole up in a hotel room in DC, make a Barbie outfit and write post for Craig. Got it. Sigh. I have an idea (or two), just no time to put it on paper. Well, virtual paper. Whatever.

Never watched Buffy, can’t wait for SV.

  26. Polt on July 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Craig, yeah now I remember that Rorshach scene…didn’t work for me either. Although you ARE correct as well in that the death of Hollis Mason was outstandingly well done!

    HUGS…

  27. The Ryan with the Cupcake on July 27, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Do you need someone to send you Torchwood?

Michelle M.: Do whatever your creatively demented mind desires with my photos.

Time to go back to work. I planned to have lunch at home and work from home for the afternoon, but apparently my adviser came back from Boston early.

  28. The Infamous Dr. Para on July 27, 2009 at 5:20 pm

John: Last night’s episode finally put the MaryAnn stuff into full gear, with a handful of reveals along the way about, though I honestly think there’s still more to what is going on than what was actually shown. As for the Jason thing, yeah, last night that takes another turn and I have a funny feeling there is something way super kooky going on now with the church leader’s wife. I felt they’ve been a bit draggy as of late but yesterday they started to finally pick up and move along nicely.

  29. Chris D. on July 27, 2009 at 8:42 pm

I have intentionally been avoiding expressing my concern over certain plot points in Torchwood just to avoid spoiling you. ;)

Any guest post I could come up with would hardly be worthy of appearing on Puntabulous. However, I will have to see if I can rise to the occasion within the allotted time. I will chase down some ideas, and if one doesn’t suck too much I will send it on.

I am looking forward to the next SV!

  30. Milo on July 28, 2009 at 11:07 am

Is that Torchwood Children of the Earth? I never Torchwood normally, or Dr Who, but did watch it this time. Was good, enjoy!

Glad the block party went well.

  31. Xi_Heather on July 28, 2009 at 12:36 pm

I’m glad to hear that G-force is good — did you see it in 3D? (It’ll be playing at our local drive-in this weekend, but maybe this is one better seen in a theater.)

We just got home last night; we’ve been gone for most of the month, and while it was great seeing family in Ohio, Oregon, and Illinois, it feels SO GOOD to be home, surrounded by cats and computers. I love home. I never want to leave again. Except we’re out of milk.

(PS Re: your tweet, bummer about work. :( )

  32. M-Dub on July 28, 2009 at 11:08 pm

I am a rabid Buffy fan who watched the series on the WB (or UPN ugh!!) when it was prime time. I bought the entire series on DVD and forgot how scary “Hush” was. I think I may be in agreement with you!
