1. We’re closing up the pool tonight. It’s officially the end of Summer. It’s getting pretty cold too, so maybe I won’t be too warm when I where argyle to my high school reunion tomorrow.
2. I got LEGO Batman for Wii and I’m loving it! I had previously played the Star Wars one and I love how they fuse the two worlds together in a fun (and pretty easy!) game. The one thing I have trouble with is that in every stage you have to collect a bunch of stuff. It’s not necessary to move on in the game, but it opens up extra levels and stuff. But I’m way too impatient to look for them and I just plow on through the game and plan on going back when I’m done. I’ve always been like that. Especially with role-playing games with huge playing fields. I’m just not a wanderer. How do you guys play video games? Take your time and see every inch of the world? Or power on through till the end?
3. I also got Wii Sports Resort which is really fun too. Some of the games are repeats of stuff we already have, but the Fencing alone is well worth the price of the game. Archery, Frisbee and the Watersports (LOL) are also really fun.
4. I can’t remember if I mentioned seeing Inglorious Basterds on here or not. But I did, and it was awesome. The only other Tarantino movies I’ve seen were the Kill Bill movies. I know, can you believe I’ve never seen Pulp Fiction? I gotta get on that. (That’s what she said.)
5. Here’s a little game for you. Match the character names with the type of characters they are from the novel I’m working on:
Names of Characters:
Bernie, Jilocasin, Nano, Wesley, Dodger, Grig, Mary, Leena, Haelejo
Types of Characters:
Elf, Troll, Dog, Cat, Faerie, Boy, Girl, Selkie, Lizard
6. Was anyone else disappointed they did makeovers so early this season on America’s Next Top Model? It just seemed like they rushed through everything and no one got a drastic change. Do short people not deserve to get their hair chopped off or something? Does it make them look even shorter? The biggest drama was someone getting their eyebrows bleached. Yeah, that was lame. Also lame was Tyra’s designing of the makeovers. The whole show just seemed super low budget for some reason.

Boo closing of the pool, that was always a sad moment for me growing up.
I’ve heard nothing but good about the Lego games. I tend to wander a bit, I like finishing a game, but usually wander after I have done the big things in each level.
Water sports! HA!
Haven’t seen Basterds yet. Kill Bill is my favorite, but Pulp Fiction was good.
Bernie = Dog
Jilocasin = Selkie
Nano = Cat
Wesley = Boy
Dodger = Elf
Grig = Troll
Mary = Girl
Leena = Faerie
Haelejo = Lizard
Not watching ANTM, so I can’t say.
I liked Kill Bill, but was disappointed in Kill Bill 2.
The makeovers were blah. Amber’s meow cracked me up. I could watch that ALL day. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzENNDnhyQU
Anyone watch 90210 or the Vampire Diaries?
Bernie – dog
Jilocasin – elf
Nano – lizard
Wesley – boy
Dodger – cat
Grig – troll
Mary – girl
Leena – Selkie
Haelejo – Faeirie
I watched 90210. It definitely felt like a mini reboot. What happened to Silver? Suddenly she’s dressing like a Mean Girl? What happened to the cute alt blogger girl? And Annie was even more heinous than usual. And what is Navid’s appeal? I still enjoyed it though.
John: 3 right.
Michelle M: 5 right.
And Vampire Diaries is recorded. how was it?
Watersports. Sheesh, you guys have dirty minds. (And you hush up about my mind.)
Umm, no Wii at my house, no Inglorious Basterds (although I’ve been known to refer to my neighbour as the “annoying bastard” and no top model but wheeeee, Supernatural starts next Wed. for me, right after Glee. Singing and dancing straight into blood and gore and demons. Oh yah.
On to the game: (Selkie, unusual but intriguing creature choice, I like it.)
Bernie = Boy
Jilocasin = Elf
Nano = Cat
Wesley = Faerie
Dodger = Dog
Grig = Troll
Mary = Girl
Leena = Lizard
Haelejo = Selkie
I noticed that about Silver, too. And the new guy looks waaay too old to be in high school. I didn’t recognize Adriana with all that long hair. And those ice cream cones went from untouched to gone in two seconds. Annie still bugs.
I enjoyed it (Vampire Diaries). What is up with vampires wanting to hang out in high school, anyway? Wouldn’t it be boring? Melrose sucked. I’m rooting for Kevin or Jennifer on Top Chef. Wasn’t crazy about any of the dresses on Project Runway. And I watch too much tv.
Tam: 3 right.
Didn’t watch Melrose (I have no connection to the original so I was uninterested) and don’t watch Top Chef, even though I know I’d love it. Project Runway continues to be awesome.
And Glee was so much fun!
I didn’t mention this earlier, but I really like some of the names. My favorites being: Jilocasin, Nano, Grig and Haelejo (how does one pronounce the last one?).
I was trying to deduce the guesses from what you have told Michelle, Tam and me, but decided to let the rest of the Puntabugang play along. I will only say that while I think the Girl is Mary, I suspect the Fairy may also be a Mary…
I’m really not sure how you’d pronounce Haelejo. I was going for “ah-lei-ho” but not quite sure if I got there.
I power thru games. In the gaming world, we call unlocking all the modes/costumes/secrets as being a completionist. When I play games, I play to see the story and to down bosses. I dont need some obscure costume that Wolverine wore in some X-Men annual.
I’m in love with Eli Roth now. I’m not particularly fond of how he looked in Inglorious Basterds but he looks so cute in his PSA for Peta.
GoKitty: LOL @ “I dont need some obscure costume that Wolverine wore in some X-Men annual.” Glad I’m not alone!
And you’re right about Eli!

Oh, and Bernie is short for Bernadette.
I tried to comment firs thing this morning, and the damn blocker had the comments blocked due to ‘porn’ reasons, even though there were not yet any comments! insanity!
ANYWAYS…there’s a short-ish blonde model on ANTM who is from my area. I know nothing about her as I don’t watch the show, I don’t even remember her name, but let me know how she does, if you can.
The names…let’s see (and this is without reading what anyone else guessed):
Bernie Dog (cause it’s the only name I hadn’t used)
Jilocasin – Elf (sounds elfin)
Nano – Lizard (isn’t there something called a nanolizard?)
Wesley – boy (From the Princess Bride!)
Dodger – Cat (damn sneaky, dodgey felines)
Grig – Troll (who else would you call a troll?)
Mary – Girl (what better name for a girl?)
Leena – Fairie (I would have though Bruce more appropriate, but whatever)
Haelejo – Selkie (I don’t know what the heck a Selkie, and I don’t know what the heck this name is, so they go together)
HUGS…
oh give us the Bernie clue NOW…after I guess…nice….
HUGS…
1. wear*
2./3. I take my time with video games! My playing times for Final Fantasy IV, V, VII, IX, X, and XII were 50 hours. For FF VIII and XII (as well as Tales of Symphonia) my playing time was around 75 hours. I basically only play games that are super long and involved (no Wii Sports for me!). Though I did LOVE Shadow of the Colossus, and that was only a 15 hour game.
4. Kill Bill is my favorite movie of all time. And no, I don’t prefer one over the other. They are one really long movie in my mind. I never watch vol. 1 without vol. 2.
5. Too lazy.
6. Don’t watch ANTM, but PR is really good! I was slightly disappointed with the first ep, but it’s gotten better. I love Carol Hannah and want her to win! And I’m so glad Quetzalcoatl is gone!
Two of my favorite computer games are Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. They lend themselves to ignoring the main quest and wandering around.
In the LEGO games I try to find every last piece so I can fill the trophy rooms. LEGO Indiana Jones is worth a look too!
(P.S. I was looking through old comment threads just now and since I’m not at work, I did a Google search… and Brett/Brent/Stonie/Chase are all decent, but way too young-looking.)
Everyone is on fire today! LOL @ GoKitty for the Wolverine (totally overrated character) costume comment and LOL@ Enroci for Quetzalcoatl! Personally, I have been calling her Quixote, because I can spell that. And LOL @ Polt for I don’t know who she is, but let me know how she does.
1. I didn’t so swimming once this summer, so whatevz. I’m bitter.
2. /3. Video games used to be mah only friend. I don’t play them as often (though my ex bought me a Wii for Xmas) anymore. However, I combed every secret out of FFX, Mario RPG and all three Donkey Kong Countries. And Super Mario World? That star road ain’t got SHIT on me.
4. I never saw “Pulp Fiction”…everyone always gushed about it and that pissed me off so eff it.
5. No, I’m tired of scrolling up and down.
6. I don’t have cable. Feel bad for me. AKA I actually do fine without it.
john: “Wolverine (totally overrated character)” Truer words were NEVER said, my friend.
I love Kill Bill 1, and the beginning of Kill Bill 2 (the fight in the trailer was awesome). but man, was the second long and boring. Im not even sure I finished it, cause after spending 17 hours listening to Uma and Carradine stand there and…TALK, well I think I fell asleep.
HUGS…
Tyra’s done the makeovers already? Do I sense a truncated cycle in keeping with the short models thing? This and a Kardashian invasion?! Oh, Tyra…
Polt: It is so nice to hear someone agree about Wolverine, most people react like I have eaten their child.
I am a total completionist, I try to just stick to the main storyline in a video game, but I just can’t help but wander. My friends often will call me over to play a game if they can’t find some rando doohicky ’cause they know I will look in every corner, under every rock, talk to every NPC etc.
GoKitty: But I need to see what that costume would look like on my avatar, just once!
Enrico: I have easily spent 80+ hours on FFVIII through FFX-2 (I have FFXII but my PS2 broke before I could play it and I am too cheap to get a new one)
Cupcake: The Mrs. hates it when I play an Elder Scrolls game as she pretty much knows I will be sitting at the computer for the next two months straight (she loves to make fun of the spreadsheets I make to map my character level ups though) BTW, Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfalls is available for free from the Bethesda website right now because of the ES anniversary.
Bernie – Girl (thanks for the hint!)
Jilocasin – Elf
Nano – Cat
Wesley – Boy
Dodger – Dog
Grig – Troll
Mary – Faerie
Leena – Selkie
Haelejo – Lizard (and I totally pronounced it right BTW)
This is just off the top of my head, I didn’t want to use others results to try and figure it out
M. Nico: In my current Morrowind game, I’m past level thirty and only on the third part of the main quest. I enjoy being able to wander to my heart’s content.
I think the only time I was in a pool all summer was once in Seattle in July when we went out there to visit the fundie in-laws. If we were sufficiently crazy, we could go swimming at the local beach, but even on a really hot day the water barely gets above 50° (That’s 10°C, Tam), which shuts off all circulation to my extremities in about 2 seconds.
Speaking of argyle, though, I was pointed last night to a really cute pattern for argyle mittens. I’m thinking I may need to make some one of these days.
Thanks for the translation Mel. No bloody way am I getting in 10 degree water. I don’t really like going in the ocean that much, it’s got fish and “things” in there. I like looking at it, like my Facebook pic with Michelle, just enjoying the “scenery” with a frou-frou cocktail.
You guys ready for the answers? Anyone want to take another stab at it?
I love all the names you have in your novel. They fit the characters perfectly.
The being buried alive scene killed my enjoyment of both Kill Bills. But I really liked Reservoir Dogs and John Travolta and Sam Jacksons’ scenes in Pulp Fiction make that movie.
I just watched first episode of Pushing Daisies. It’s wonderfully original and I love the fairy tale quality. I’m glad you warned me about the opening scene though because I would have turned it off!
Hope you have a fantastic time at your High School Reunion!
Just tell me Craig since I suck at these kind of puzzles.
Bernie = Cat (don’t even think about calling her Bernadette)
Jilocasin = Lizard (named for the dragon)
Nano = Elf (elves in the book are like house elves in Harry Potter)
Wesley = Boy
Dodger = Dog
Grig = Troll
Mary = Girl
Leena = Selkie (kinda take the all-knowing role of the elves in LOTR)
Haelejo = Faerie
Excellent. By the way, I love Avatar, the Last Airbender! Season 2 is fantastic.
M Night is going to ruin it! I just know he will!
GoKitty: That is my fear too! I saw the trailer. I didn’t get a feeling either way, so that gives me some glimmer of hope (no matter how foolish that is…)
Late to the party. Wah wah.
