Okay, so I finished Betrayed the other day which is the second book in the vampire series which is a bajillion times better than Twilight, also known as the House of Night series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Marked, but this was still a big improvement. The first one was pretty busy setting up characters and putting the series wheels in motion that the book itself didn’t have a standalone plot. This one on the other hand continued progressing the overall series plot and introducing new characters, while also having a self-contained plot about abducted humans, which was pretty cool.

They’re fun and easy reads and I may or may not have even teared up on the train while reading this one. I mean, yes, they’re kinda typical young adult fair with a heroine who has one too many guys throwing themselves at her, but at least she’s worth being thrown at because she isn’t the self-loathing crybaby that Bella Swan (worst character name ever) was. There’s the token gay guy that is more than just a caricature of fashion advice who deals with his own family problems such as a Dad who can accept that his son is a vampire – sorry – vampyre, but can’t accept that he’s gay. There’s even power over the elements earth, wind, fire, and air, like Avatar! Okay, well don’t take that as a reason to read it because if you read it wanting Avatar you’ll probably come kick my ass within the first five pages.

So I started the third book in the series Chosen yesterday and it’s already really good. I really gotta recommend that you guys give these a whirl!
