Walk Through the Fire – Avatar Style

I’m in geek heaven! Here’s a fan video of Walk Through the Fire from the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer set to scenes from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Don’t worry, the video doesn’t have any spoilers to either series, I think most of the Avatar footage they used was from first season.
I love how they matched up the Buffy and Avatar characters really well. I really love the one they gave Willow. It’s also funny that both those shows are ones I resisted watching until other people insisted.

I agree with your auto-play stance. Very annoying.
Happy Monday, Craig!

“Or maybe melt away” and “I hope she fries / I’m free if that ***** dies” = LOL!
I also love the bridge when they assign the lines to random peepz (especially Giles and Willow). And how “So one by one, they turn from me” leads to a collage of characters turning around. Brillz.

Holy crap. I’ve never seen either but that video is really well done. Must have taken them a long time to match up everything to the song. Very cool. Have to admit it’s made me more curious about Avatar than Buffy though. Hmmm.

I remember when Enrico showed me the “Walk Though the Fire” clip within the first week that we met. I stared in amazement at him while he stared in amazement at the computer screen.

Josh, that’s an awesome story – it perfectly captures your personalities.
By jere, November 23, 2009 @ 10:13 am
On the general topic of Whedon musicals and over-the-top fan efforts, have you seen Horrible Turn, the unofficial prequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog?
By john, November 23, 2009 @ 10:29 am
Jere: You are totally correct!
I’m not a huge fan of “Once More With Feeling” but I have to admit, that was a very well done video.
Tam: Avatar is worth watching. It was very well done.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 10:35 am
Is it still on Nick? We are getting Nick north of the border, maybe I can watch it there.

So hate the autoplay, too. It looks like livevideo writes their code to bring up a proprietary player app, so there’s probably not a way to disable it. Bastards!
Neat video, even though I don’t know the Buffy episode. I watched the first season of Avatar on Netflix on your recommendation, though, and really enjoyed it. Annoying that they don’t have other seasons available for instant play.

How is my personality defined by staring @ Enrico?
Anywayz and more importantly, I dance around this empty house. Tear us down and throw you out.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 2:09 pm
Tam: It looks like that it is not playing on Nick anymore.
I’m going to start the third season on Saturday.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 2:11 pm
jere: I watched the first part of it, but then I realized that I didn’t have time to watch it for an hour.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 3:10 pm
Sigh. I’m bored. I don’t want to read about infrastructure anymore. Blah blah blah. You guys aren’t very entertaining at ALL today.
By josh, November 23, 2009 @ 3:12 pm
Tam, this is for your entertainment. You’re welcome.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 3:14 pm
Tam: Earth with rings is awesome.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 3:33 pm
Oh Josh. I know now why you are enamoured of the dear dear woman. Isn’t there some kind of law about the size someone has to be to allow piercers to do the belly button? If there’s not there damn well should be.
Ryan: That was sooo cool. I would love to live on a planet with rings. Maybe someday.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 3:45 pm
Tam: My colony drop plan would probably result in rings, but josh is preventing me from pulling it off by threatening to betray me to the heroes (who for some reason, I assume to be Craig and Enrico). Earth probably had rings in the past after asteroid impacts or near misses.
Some may point out that we could create rings without smashing a giant object into the Earth, but why do one when you can do both at the same time?
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 3:52 pm
You’ve got a point Ryan. Maximum bang for the buck. We can lock Josh in the basement or something. Oh wait, send him on a date with Rhonetta, she’ll keep him busy while you implement your evil plan.
How much space would there be (in theory) between the rings and the earth? If the rings showed up tomorrow would satellites smash into them? (Not taking into account your brilliant plan.) I think being so far north I might not have a great view of rings, but perhaps more interesting than places on the equator. Maybe you could make your rings wobble somehow like a spinning top so we’d all get a different view depending on the day/time. Work on that problem and get back to me.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 3:57 pm
Tam: The view in southern Canada would be similar to the one shown for Paris in the video.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 3:58 pm
Ryan: I still want them to wobble. And more colorful.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 4:07 pm
Tam: You are tempting me to do some numerical simulations to determine what configurations are stable.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 4:18 pm
Ryan: I’m great at distracting other people. I imagine there would be a wobble limit without them going completely off the rails and … I don’t know, crashing to earth or flying off into space I suppose. Astrophysics is my weak point.
Would the earth’s magnetosphere change with the addition of rings? What would that mean in the long run? What about solar winds hitting the earth? More or fewer borealis? Teach me something Monday Ryan.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 4:37 pm
Tam: Since the magnetosphere is driven by the convection of Earth’s mantle, I don’t think it would be affected to much by the rings.
It looks like the simplest way to make rings would be to simply place an object in an orbit that is inside the Roche Limit.
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, November 23, 2009 @ 4:39 pm
I think we could get colored rings using comets and dyes. However, UV bleaching would probably be a problem.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 4:43 pm
Ryan: That’s interesting but I think to get rings as big as Saturn (which might be overwhelming for earth) you’d need to a lot of “stuff” to make a decent ring. Perhaps the moon could be pulled closer (slowly) so that it could disintegrate to create enough mass for decent rings. Because really, go big or go home.
I think we completely lost the other readers on this string. Sorry Craig.
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 4:44 pm
Ryan: Sunblock, in bulk. (Time to go home while I ponder this problem.)
By john, November 23, 2009 @ 4:52 pm
Rhonetta: I can’t believe she didn’t make the Monday Muse.
Ryan: I caught the rings earlier today and thought it was really neat. It makes me thing our planet is boring, but it really isn’t.
By josh, November 23, 2009 @ 5:04 pm
john: I lurrrve how it lookz like you are writing to Rhonetta herself. I know…Deven Green better not take for granted that she stole the spotlight from Rho-Rho! It’s okay though, she’s still gonna make it. And when she gets there, you best believe, she’s settin’ da city on fiya!
By Polt, November 23, 2009 @ 5:57 pm
Is there anyway we can get rings to orbit Rhonetta? That might interest me.
HUGS..
By Tam, November 23, 2009 @ 6:11 pm
Ryan: In the car (see, I really was pondering this) I was thinking if we could enough cobalt and sulfur up there we could have the Swedish rings but I’m not sure there is enough to make it truly look blue and yellow from earth.
By Polt, November 23, 2009 @ 6:21 pm
Tam: Ooooh, Swedish rings! They’d be red and gummy and tasty right? We could send the shuttle up to mine them and bring them back down here to sell!!! Sweet!
HUGS…

I’ll have to check out this Avatar business.

Nice video! I listened to this song once a few days ago. I thought it was just “nice”. Hearing it again I feel it growing on me a little more. It is the kind of dramatic musical type thing I tend to like. If knew more about Buffy I probably would be even more into it. I was really inspired by songs from Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along (haven’t even seen the whole thing yet [was waiting for my HD TV]). Once I get a TV I will have to make more of an effort to explore the world of Joss Whedon.
By Chris D., November 24, 2009 @ 12:02 am
Who is singing at 2:15 and 2:00 (From video end, since the time counts down)? Same guy? I really like his voice. Does he have a larger part in any other songs from OMWF?
By josh, November 24, 2009 @ 7:47 am
No sir, I don’t wanna be the blame. Not anymore. It’s your turn to take a seat, we’re settling the final score.
By Michelle M., November 25, 2009 @ 4:24 am
Chris – that’s Anthony Stewart Head who plays Giles.

Thanks Michelle!
I hadn’t heard of him before, but he seems cool. I think his voice reminds me a bit of Richard Thompson. I like male vocalists with deep edgy voices.
