1. I’m really excited about The Princess and the Frog. It’s not even that it looks particularly great (although it is getting good reviews), it’s just that I’m excited about the return of traditional animation. Don’t get me wrong, CG animation is great, but there’s just something special about traditional animation and unfortunately Disney let a few clunkers like Atlantis and Home on the Range deter them from it.
2. So the Glee fall finale was on last night and it was awesome. I am now addicted to their version of My Life Would Suck Without You. The idea of fall finales drive me crazy though. Why can’t networks just run full seasons like they used to? (Oh goodness, did I just talk about the good old days? I’m getting old.) Or at least switch all shows to the 24/Lost method of running full seasons nonstop during a half season of time.
3. I have no idea why people still insist on faxing stuff, but I’m glad Dilbert agrees with me:

4. I am positively obsessed with the Rat on the Run iPhone app. I play it pretty much every opportunity I can get. The best part is the Rat on a Scooter subgame, and it turns out they just released an entire Rat on a Scooter XL game. My life is now complete.
5. I didn’t realize that a sex scene on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the first lesbian sex scene on network television. That’s pretty cool! Seems like science fiction has a way of pushing the envelope for television. Kirk/Uhura kiss, anyone?
6. Some serious shiznit is going down (LOL) on Babylon 5. I watched Point of No Return last night which the creator J. Michael Straczynski cites as a major turning point in the series. I love that he wrote pretty much every single episode himself. It really lends itself to an amazing continuity, though after taking such a long break between seasons 2 and 3, I find myself a little lost at times, but I still enjoy it nonetheless. And I’m still trying to figure out how the movies fit into all this. Can I watch the series first and then all the movies after? Or do I have to watch them in between particular seasons?
1. Fix your link
2. Haven’t watched yet so I can’t read/comment!
3. True!
4. ?? Get the Britney app for your iPhone!
5. Duh!
6. Of all the girls tossing rocks at your windows, I’ll be the one waiting there even when it’s cold
Glee was wonderful as ususal and the extra song numbers were a great way to hold us over like the suckers we are…
1. Yay! I am excited for this movie cuz it features a lead voice-over by Anika Noni Rose aka Lorrell Robinson ala “Dreamgirls!” LORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEELL LOVEZ JIIIIIMMYYYYY, IT’S TRUUUUUUE. BUT LORRRRRRREEEEELL AND JIIIIIMMMMYYYY ARE THROOOOOOUGH.
2. I still haven’t seen any episodez of “Glee” except the pilot. I know, I know…I can watch the episodez online since yo no tengo televisor…but since their pop covers are really what I would be interested in seeing most of all, I’ll listen to them on YouTube and pretend to follow the plot of the show.
3. Fax machines are stupid, but not as stupid as the dumboz that can’t ever seem to figure out how to use them. NOT COMPLICADO!
4. My favo part about the Rat on the Run game is that I don’t have an iPhone so I am forced to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii! YAY! PENGUIN SUIT FOREVAZ!
5. Mah favo girl-on-girl scene is when P!nk hookz up wiff herself in the video for “Sober.”
6. CHRISTIIIIIIIIIINE? CHRISTIIIIIIIIINE? CHRISTIIIIIIIIINE?! Where in the world have you been hiding? Really, you were perfect! I only wish I knew your secret, who is your great tuuuuuutooor?
The same guy (who’s name I can’t remember now) wrote like four or five seasons of the West Wing before he left. And you can really tell it, cause the final two (or three) seasons really are inferior to the others. And I remember Babylon 5 being like that too.
But honestly, I don’t remember a lot ot Babylong 5 because when it aired, it was on opposite Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and I kept trying to keep up with both of them, which was difficult. But I do remember Babylon 5 was very coherent and focused in what it was doing, and that was awesome.
And yeah, I haven’t watched a single episode of Glee yet either. I PROMISE Im going to watch them ALL in a marathon sometime soon and then I’ll be right caught up with all of y’all when they start airing new episodes!
HUGS…
Josh: Did I not send you the first few episodes of Glee on DVD? I’m so hurt.
Craig: I’m looking forward to the Princess too, I love the old school animation, the characters seem to have more weight than they do in CGI.
Did I not tell you how good B5 is to watch?!? Did you recognize Majel Barrett as the seer? That is one of my favorite episodes. Let me tell you, it continues to get more intense, it may be wort watching the rest of the series in order.
1. Yeah whatever. First black princess, if only the prince white they’d really push the boundaries. Or Asian or Jewish.
2. Glee was great. Loved how the principal got all alpha dog on Sue.
3. Funny.
4. Umm. Okay.
5. Umm. Okay.
6. Sure whatever.
Not much to add today. Sorry. What can I say. Hmmm. Looking forward to the 12 Days of Space-mas on Space channel. First 10 Star Trek Movies, all 6 Star Wars, the Overeating Day (of people) marathon, Torchwood Children of Earth, Superhero Hump Day, End of the World movie marathon, and Stargate Univervse marathon (I can catch up.) They have some really funny PROMOS for the Star Wars fans. There is another funny one with Darth Maul cooking dinner, but I can’t find it.
Polt: The Glee DVD is coming out Dec. 30 or 31st.
You can get yourself a New Year’s gift.
I recommend watching all five seasons and THEN watching the B5 movies. Under no circumstances should you watch IN THE BEGINNING before you’ve seen everything through season 4. It would ruin A LOT. Honestly? I’m not a big fan of the movies (except IN THE BEGINNING). RIVER OF SOULS and THIRDSPACE did nothing for me (although THIRDSPACE has some awesome stuff with a certain telepath I shan’t name because I don’t know if you’ve reached this person’s re-introduction yet). LEGEND OF THE RANGERS was OK but still not what I was looking for in a B5 movie. I liked A CALL TO ARMS, largely because it lays the groundwork for the awesome, though sadly incomplete CRUSADE. You CANNOT watch A CALL TO ARMS until you’ve watched all five seasons.
I would also recommend investing in a state of the art seatbelt for season four. I don’t know if you know the backstory or not but JMS didn’t think they’d make it to season five so he compressed the planned arcs for four and five into four so it’s non-stop action and chaos with little room to breathe. Even though five feels like a big epilogue, it’s still very cool and does some great things.
every week I like to try and dress up in the same costumes that Glee uses and sing along with them from my dvr. last night i had the black and red that they were wore. i am a glee crazy
Craig: Quentin is totally correct about the B5 movies.
Just a little something I read this morning:
J. Michael Straczynski (“Babylon 5″) and artist Shane Davis have been tapped to create “Superman: Earth One”:
Return to Smallville and experience the journey of Earth’s greatest adopted son, as he grows from boy to Superman in SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE by J. Michael Straczynski and artist Shane Davis.
Let’s hope he keeps it simple
Glad to hear I don’t have to worry about the movies yet. I’m excited for seasons 3 and 4, but am disappointed a lot of the cast doesn’t seem to be in 5. Especially Ivanova.
I also just hung that Dilbert strip over the fax machine here at work.
Funny Paul. I wasn’t even sure our fax machine works until I saw some papers in it one day.
Craig: Ivanova is actually in Season 5, but only briefly. As Quentin mentioned, they were unsure if there was going to be a 5th season, so she took other commitments and wasn’t available for a good chunk of the season. It is a slower season, but there are a few stand out episodes and it does wrap things up nicely.
Paul: I heard about the reboot of Superman and Batman as well. I guess the plan is to reintroduce the characters with out all the baggage of years of canon. I’ve read other comic work by Straczynski and it is pretty good.
John: I am 95% sure you sent me “True Blood” only. Unless the “Glee” disc was hiding somewhere, I only gotz da “Sangre Cierto.”
Josh: Hrm, I thought I sent Glee to fill up space on one of the discs, but I could be wrong. Double check, you might get a surprize!
tam: Well if whoever got my name is Sassy josh’s gift exchange wanted to get me a LATE Christmas/New Years Eve gift, I wouldn’t be at ALL upset. Although, they probably should send me something saying their doing that so I have something to take a photo with.
HUGS…
I’m going to miss Glee. It was really getting into the swing of things. Hopefully, they will be able to keep the writing quality at this level when it comes back.
And hopefully, they will give Kurt a love interest other than Finn.
that superman:earth one thing MAY be non-canon. If it’s taking place on Earth One, then that may be a seperate earth than the one all the regular DC comics take place on. I’m not sure, though, cause I’m a bit fuzzy on all that after the results of the 52 series….
HUGS…
Oh and a final Glee question: this “fall finale” junk…is this the ‘season’ finale, are we dont until next fall, or is this just it for the first half of season one and the second half will start up again in the spring?
IN short, are the new Glee episodes coming out in the spring or fall?
HUGS…
9 more Glee episodes start in April.
Who wants to build a lighthugger so that we can reduce the amount of time between now and April?
Actually I was gonna see if Dilbert’s finger-twirly time travel worked the other way around.
I’ll let you name it Starship Puntabulous if you support my plan.
1. I can’t wait either, the kids have already worn out all the Disney movies we have to the point where I run screaming when I hear the first few bars of the Disney DVD opening screen.
2. Still haven’t caught up with Glee, I plan on doing a marathon viewing after the holidays wind-down.
3. I HATE fax machines, but we use them all the time in healthcare as they are a secure method of transmitting confidential information without confusing the heck out of computer illiterate office workers.
4. No tengo un iPhone.
5. Wasn’t the first televised lesbian kiss on Star Trek as well?
6. Never watched B5, I was in college at the time and was to busy
drinking until my liver turned green and shriveled up to nothingstudying to watch a regular TV show.Nico: Dax did kiss her ex-wife.
My understanding with Glee is that they only made a certain number of episodes, which have all aired, to see how it would do. Now that it is popular, they have to make more.
I think there was a girl on girl kiss on LA Law, many years ago
there was also Beverly Crusher and Odan’s new host on TNG
john: I think TV execs are a lot more cautious than they used to be. Glee has had two breaks so far due to execs waiting to make a decision.
1. I didn’t see Atlantis or Home on the Range, but Disney kind of lost me when they started introducing fart jokes and other potty humor into the mix. They’re Disney, FFS!
2. Hoping to catch it tonight, but my big final project for my class is due tonight, and, um, WTF am I doing reading blogs?
3. Faxes are for when you’re required to physically sign something and get a copy to someone else. Most people still don’t have the kind of technology needed to do that via the intarwebz.
4. ??
5. Isn’t Buffy more fantasy than sci-fi? Either way, yes.
6. I am not the one to ask questions about this.
Wait . . . why are we talking about lesbian kisses.
I find it funny that That ’70′s show got the first primetime comedy gay kiss. The makers of Will & Grace were mad that they didn’t get there first.
Mel: I was really annoyed by G Force previews because they were over 50% potty humor.
Cupcake, what lesbian kiss was there in the 70′s? And yes, Paul, CJ Lamb did give Abby a lesbian kiss on LA Law about…1991 or 1992 I think. I’m pretty sure this precedes the Dax kiss. But I don’t recall Beverly actually kissing the Trill…although I may be wrong about that.
HUGS..
G Force was actually really good. The previews definitely sold it wrong. There were maybe 2 or 3 potty jokes. Otherwise it was an enjoyable kids movie.
But OMG remember that time the creature burped outside of Jabba’s palace? And that other time the Sarlacc monster burped? And that other time that Jar Jar burped? And that other time the eopie farted? OMG sooo funny.
Oh and Craiggers, thanks for the Glee info. IF I do a marathon before April then I’ll be ALL caught up and ready to go then! Sweet!
HUGS….
And just as a tangent, the first lesbian kiss in comic books (i’m pretty sure) was in Camelot 3000 between Sir Tristan reincarnated in the body of a woman and his reincarnated lover Isolde. Actually showed them in bed together too, albeit clothed and just kissing in an embrace. This woulda been about 83 or 84.
HUGS…
Yeah, I don’t fax either. I have fax software on my laptop and it has a modem port but I never use it. It’s just a “Just in case” thing.
All you need is a scanner and an email account. When you think about it, we just replaced the phone line with the broadband network connection.
But I do I.T. consulting for the marriage equality group here in RI. They insisted they needed a fax line. Thing is, they never use it, ever.
Polt: I have often wondered if it is still gay if your consciousness is currently inhabiting the body of someone of the opposite sex (e.g. Sir Tristan, male, in a female body kissing a woman)? Is a gay act defined by the biological sex of the participants or gender identification?
Nico: This interaction between sex, sexual identity, and sexual orientation is the reason many are starting to use queer to describe sexually atypical people and situations.
As to the order to watch B5 in:
1. Watch the B5 movie “The Gathering” — The Babylon 5 pilot movie The Gathering was originally broadcast in 1993 a full year ahead of the regular show.
2. Season 1
3. Season 2
4. Season 3
5. Watch Season 4 up to episode “The illusion of truth”
6. Watch the B5 movie “Thirdspace”
7. Season 4: continue with episodes 9-22
8. Watch Season 5 up to episode “Objects at Rest”
9. Watch the B5 movie “River of Souls”
10. Watch the B5 movie “In the Beginning” — This is a prelude set 10 years before Babylon 5. Against the logic of the title, I would strongly recommend seeing it at this stage. Should one see it before Season 1, much of the suspense in the main series would be ruined.
11. Watch the B5 movie “A Call to Arms” — This movie lays the groundwork for the spin-off TV series “Crusade”.
12. Season 5: watch final episode “Sleeping in light”
13. Watch Crusade Series
M.Nico: I dont have the answer to your question. I’ve aleady thought that what you ‘feel’ is what’s important. I can have sex with a woman, and I can love a woman, but I have THAT feeling towards a woman. Or least I haven’t yet. I have had THAT feeling towards men. And I assume, I’d feel the same way even if I was in a woman’s body. However, if that were the case, then I presume we’d have nothing to talk about, cause I’d be a woman attracted to men…and how’s that interesting?
HUGS…
I don’t know about the iphones and the Babylons.
I’m thrilled with the return to hand drawn animation. Also not crazy about the potty humor or pop culture references that seem to be creeping in. And I find the use of celebrity voices distracting.
Sooo glad they wrapped up the Will’s wife thing/Quinn-Flinn sectret on Glee (don’t want to spoil anything).
All the shows I watch are over. What on earth am I going to do with myself?
Hey, I’m interesting.
I think …… Oh god, I’m boring and uninteresting. It’s all clear now.
Polt: I only posit the question as an exercise in defining social interactions and what mainstream America perceives as “gay” or “straight.” As a bisexual I could care less who is kissing whom (as long as there is a free video online that is.) As long as the people involved are enjoying the experience, it seems natural to me. Personally, I have had some problems identifying what is, and what is not, acceptable “straight” behavior, and gotten into trouble in the past by accidently crossing that invisible line society has drawn in the sand.
Tam: you are never boring or uninteres… ohh, what is that shiny thing over there?
Michelle M.: TOTALLY agree about the celebrity voices! Voice actors are so much better than celebrities. I also agree about the wrap ups on Glee.
Tam: You are TOTALLY interesting and pretty cute to boot.
Awwww. You’re sweet John. Nico is mean. *pout*
Yeah, I’m so tired of celebrity voices. Do people really go to an animated movie only because some “A-lister” voices the main character? If so they need a smack.
Tam, I never meant to suggest YOU weren’t interesting (having met you, twice, i know that’s NOT the case), nor was I suggesting women in general aren’t interesting. I was saying that me, if I were a woman, and I liked men, that particular part of my life would be uninetesting.
Although I’m fairly certain what I would be doing with them whilst I was ‘liking’ them would be anything but uninteresting!
HUGS…
