1. Modern Family and Cougar Town is my current favorite hour of television. This week’s episodes confirmed that fact. I just can’t get enough of Cameron and Mitchell. And Cougar Town really makes me want to live in Florida and I’ve never even been there! All they do is lounge around all day and drink white wine out of pickle jars! I assume all the Florida bloggers can confirm this fact.
2. I’m going to the 2010 Professional Bull Riders event at Madison Square Garden with my Dad this Sunday. Seriously.
3. I really want to see Daybreakers. It looks like a lot of fun, and it’s getting some pretty decent reviews. Plus it has Sam Neill and he can do no wrong.
4. Ugh. This makes me so angry.
5. Wouldn’t it be great if Avatar beat Titanic? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those Titanic haters. I love it and all it’s cheesy goodness, but I think I’m just about done with it being the number one movie.
6. Two hour season premiere of Chuck this Sunday! Be excited!
7. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Lynnette’s storyline in last week’s Desperate Housewives did not make me cry. ::sniff::
8. Today is the day I give up hope on the job I interviewed for. I got home that day positive I had gotten it. My would-be boss was wearing argyle! Her best friend is the woman I interviewed with at Penguin! I talked about Glee with the Human Resources woman! But alas, a month has gone by and my phone call was not returned. I held out hope that they needed this week to catch up on things from the holidays. But the week is over and I feel defeated.
#1 – you mean your favorite hour of television other than Glee, right? (*crazy eye twitch*) (*insane laugh*) Right?
#8 – if you came in for a face-to-face interview, they should actually contact you one way or the other. That’s basic business etiquette. So either they’re lazy or rude, neither sounds like the kind of people you want to work with.
I don’t think “Avatar” will outshine “Titanic.” Largely because there is a chart-topping single on the radio that is selling the soundtrack like hotcakes. They should paint Susan Boyle with some blue makeup and have her sing some cheesefest called “My Winged Heart Flies Free” or something of the like. THAT would probably give “Avatar” the needed boost! Yay for music!
*there isn’t a chart-topping single…
But they’re exactly the kind of people I want to work with! They were so friendly and nice and the position was EXACTLY what I want to be doing.
A previous job I applied for at another company never got back to me either. A friend applied for a few jobs recently and she said they never got back to her either. It seems like a trend that is spreading. It still sucks though. We want to know!
I haven’t watched Cougartown or Modern Family yet (I tend to resist new shows, and then catch them on reruns, and say “wow the show is as good as everybody said!” and then devour whole seasons worth end-to-end on DVD; that’s what I did with Sex and the City, ER, Six Feet Under, and LOST), though I’ve been tempted to watch Cougartown ever since this squarehippies article.
Sorry Craig & Josh and everybody else, I’ve been a Titanic Hater since the moment the lights came on and my jaw was still hanging open from the awfulness of it. Don’t get me started. Apart from the visuals, the stunningly gorgeous recreation of the ship, inside and out, I still get angry at the very thought of that movie and the Oscars.
Jere’s absolutely right on both counts vis à vis the interview.
Oh and Craig, good luck on the Bull Riders thing. Hope it doesn’t turn you straight or anything! Hopefully you’ll be too busy watching the hot menz on the bullz
.
What’s “Titanic”?
I totally agree, I hate Jay Leno. He is an angry, bitter, little man.
Why did you not tell me you had an interview or did I miss something? I’ll email you my tirade.
Sorry I didn’t tell you about my interview sooner. I try to keep personal and professional things to a minimum on here.
Move to the Midwest
One of my friends is a professional bull-rider.
Cougartown is the funniest half-hour on TV. Love that show.
Sorry about the interview.
That sucks that you didn’t hear back, but you’re right — it’s a trend that’s becoming more and more common. When I interviewed people for positions, I always emailed each of them to tell them if they got the job or not. But most employers are no longer doing that. Personally, I think it’s kinda disrespectful.
Justin: I love SquareHippies!!
#2: Remember, cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other. I like those odds.
#5: I’ve never scene Titanic.
#6: I’m curious to see how Chuck works now that Chuck isn’t in over his head. It seems like it will be a fundamentally different show.
#8: I wish companies were better at closure.
Nicole – bite your tongue! Some of us moved away from the midwest on purpose! Even getting a hot cowboy bull-riding bf isn’t incentive enough!
Dave S: “Square” is my hero. And by a circuitous, lengthy, and not entirely unembarrassing route, he’s the reason I’m here today.
Ryan: #8 — I wish companies treated people like human beings in general.
I hope Avatar doesn’t beat Titanic! Haha.
I FUCKING LOVE Modern Family. It is one of the funniest show I have ever seen.
But drinking wine out of a vase is much classier.
Totally off-topic, but I’m excited about it, so I gotta share: Ben & Dave (from Ben & Dave’s SixPack) (bendave.com) just tweeted about my website! I’m freakin’ out!
NO!!!! IS KATE WINSLET IN AVATAR?!!? NO?!??? THEN IT NEEDS TO STAY AT NUMBER 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I’m sowwy about your interview as well…I am in the SAME BOAT dude…have been job-searching for awhile and even securing an interview feels like climbing Mt. Everest! Let’s all take a lesson from Professor Cyrus and remember to “keep our faith…keep our fa-ai-ai- aith!”
Craig: Agreed, but you have my email. No worries, just trying to be helpful.
Dave S. I agree, employers should contact all people they see face to face. I think it is wrong if they don’t.
Just read that Cameron’s going to be making another two Avatar sequels. I was kinda hoping he wouldn’t since the movie stands so well on its own.
#1. I’m actually canceling my cable service this weekend since I haven’t turned the TV on (accept for the odd DVD that Josh brings over) for the past year.
#2. I got an invite to join some friends at this but I am busy.
#3. Ugh.
#4 Sucks for O’Brien, but please see #1.
#5. Never saw Titanic. I’d like to see Avatar, but I don’t want to go by myself.
#6. Um, OK. See #1.
#7. No really, see #1.
#8. Companies stopped sending “no thank you’s” a few years ago. I can tell you that from direct experience. Sorry about not getting the job, it’s tough out there.
Dammit!
*except not accept.
2. Really? I have lived “where the west still lives*” for three years now and I have managed to avoid the rodeos so far.
3. Me too! I love Ethan Hawke (I am one of the six people who actually loved Gattaca) so I hope it lives up to the hype.
8. That totally blows. That is the reason I decided I didn’t want to work for Microsoft; the HR person in charge of my interview process wouldn’t return my calls for two to three weeks at a time and kept changing her mind if I was hired or not.
*actual town motto
In other work related news, my current company may send me to a project in the Dominican Republic for 18 months. Being away from home isn’t appealing, but a 25% uplift in pay could be fun and help pay for a house when I get back. Plus they bus you to the beach resorts on weekends.
And it would provide cool blog entries I’m sure! DO IT
That would be so exciting! A nice change of scenery!
As long as you guys tutor me in spanish before I go.
I don’t remember it anymore, but I can kind of help (aka direct you to a website).
And the letter ‘h’ is silent, and ‘j’ is pronounced like an English ‘h.’ There you go!
I was all bummed, reading #8 and the ensuing comments, until I got to Craig’s comment on possibly working in Republica Dominicana… I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you on that — what a fantastic experience that could prove to be!
#1: Don’t watch it.
#2: Bull riding is wild and dangerous and I don’t mind watching. Although I think broncs are more my style. Have fun.
#3: Eh.
#4: Never watched him at any time really.
#5: Sure, why not?
#6 and #7: Never seen them
#8: Suckage. Sorry.
OMG, gooooooo. It would be a blast and you’ll be amazed at how many friends you find you have when you live somewhere tropical and warm. Well, they’ll be your friends between November and May when they all want to come and visit. Companies usually take very good care of you when they send you abroad.
#1: Florida also has frozen iguanas falling from the trees.
Foreign travel on the company dime? HELLS YEAH! Oh, and can you smuggle back some cigars for me?
I can tutor you only in how to say rude things! It will help you make a lot of friends!
Josh: You should do a post teaching us all to swear in Spanish.
Holy grundlez! That’s such a good idea, Tam! Gawd, I love you.
Craiggers: “But they’re exactly the kind of people I want to work with! They were so friendly and nice and the position was EXACTLY what I want to be doing. ”
Honest to God since we were just talking about Avatar prior to this, i thought you were talking about the people in Avatar, not the job interview.
HUGS…
#1 I don’t watch much Network TV. other than BBCAmerica.
#2 Cowboys don’t do much for me. Well, except for the Dallas Cowboys. But bull riders, meh. Although I’d go once just to experience it.
#3 Yeah, I’m kinda thinking it’ll be good, but more like Netflix good, not $8 bucks at the theater good.
#4 Jay Leno is terrible. Conan makes me laugh. not that I really watch either of them. Leno needs to reitre and go away, classy-like, as Carson did.
#5 Neither one is a favorite movie of mine, but then, the movies I like never make the top anything list. Independents never do that.
#6 See #1.
#7 See #6. or #1 too for that matter.
#8 Its their fucking loss, Craiggers.
However if you’re to the DR, that just ROCKS! the warm, the hot guys, the beaches, the host shirtless guys, the sun to tan you, the hot shirtless Hispanic guys, oh and did I mention all the eye candy?
HUGS…
So are you suggesting that
Polt : Toronto :: Craig : Dominican Republic
Good work if you can get it!
Is the Dominican Republic gay-safe? Jamaica and Puerto Rico sure don’t seem to be
With that caveat in mind, It sounds like a really cool idea, Craig!
Oh and Polt — Brokeback?
And Josh — “dude”? I’m suffering a head-splitting amount of cognitive dissonance all of a sudden
Oh, M. Nico — make that 7 people who enjoyed Gattaca.
The guy who played Ethan Hawke’s brother (Loren Dean) was hot in Mumford, too
M.Nico/Justin: Make it eight! I love Uma always. Although I like Tape (feat. Uma and Ethan) much more! So good.
I have Gattaca in my Instant Play queue.
TwoPi: I’m not sure Craiggers is capable handling DR like I handle Toronto. I mean, he’s obviously nowhere NEAR slutty and whorish enough.
HUGS…
Have fun with the bulls. I will be interested to know how you liked it.
With your charisma, good looks and talent, any company would be lucky to have you on their team. Don’t be discouraged, just keep looking for the a situation that will make you happy.
Wow, the Dominican Republic! I am surprised you would consider moving so far from home for so long. Just make sure you know exactly what you are getting into, and have an escape plan if you become unhappy. I will miss our occasional dinners in the city.
But, as always, I wish you all the best, wherever your life journey takes you. Perhaps, moving to a new environment would be an evolutionary step for you on your ascendancy to even greater greatness.
Whatever happens, keep me posted, and know that all your friends are here to be supportive of you.
1) Haven’t seen either of these, but will give them a try.
That’s too bad. I’ve been there. Maybe someone’s nephew got the job, because, who wouldn’t hire you? Still, they should let you know either way. Big stupidheads.
2) Have fun. Yeehaw.
3) Sam Neill. Yeehaw.
4) I am making Enrico’s angry face >: 0! I love Conan.
5) Don’t care.
6) Haven’t seen Chuck. But I’m excited for you.
7) I watch the Real Housewives not the Desperate Housewives.
Jere – yay Glee! I saw them on the People’s Choice Awards. And the wheelchair kid is not really in a wheelchair. Huh.
That’s annoying – that my 8 turns into a smiley face.
Michelle: I made the comment to my daughter about wheelchair kid and the response was “well duh”. *shrug* I did hate that Rachel wore a super short dress then was so uncomfortable she spent the whole time hunched over with her knees together. If you try on a dress and you are afraid to stand up straight in it for fear your coochie will be revealed to the world, choose another one.
Tam – or wear a dress you can maneuver in (I’m looking at you Mariah).
Harry is drinking the maple coffee you sent and the house smells DIVINE.
Chris D.: I read that as “Have fun with the balls.”
