Random Stuff is My Drug

1. I am so over this TV season. Don’t get me wrong, all the shows have been swell, but I’m just over the schedule of 2 or 3 shows a night, if not more. What am I looking forward to doing with all my free time? Catching up on DVDs of course!
2. Is there something off about these new episodes of Glee? I mean, I love it of course, there’s just something not quite as magical as the first half of the season. And where is Quinn living?! Continuity is certainly not one of Glee‘s strong points.
3. I’ve been enjoying the new batch of Chucks after the original 13 ended. The one thing this show seriously lacks though is a proper villain. It needs an Arvin Sloane.
4. Could I possibly be rooting for Parvati on Survivor? Seems crazy, but I just might be.
5. Only two more episodes of Legend of the Seeker left and then it’s done forever. So so so sad. It’s such an amazing show. The fight scenes, special effects, and scenery never cease to amaze me. And Cara is one of my favorite characters currently on television. If only Richard would cut his hair.
6. Job hunting is exhausting.
7. If I get a new job I’m congratulating myself with an ipad, which you probably already know because it’s all I’ve been talking about on Facebook and Twitter. Someone sat in front of me on the train the other day with an ipad and he was watching something Star Wars. It was a double whammy of awesome (and jealousy) which sealed the deal for me.
8. I started reading Batman: Dark Victory the other day. Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale are amazing.
9. I really like the Ke$ha song Your Love is My Drug, but the last 10 seconds really bug me for some reason. I always change the station when the song is almost over. So… so… bleck… arg… gross…
10. Daria: The Complete Animated Series comes out on DVD today. I wonder if it’s as good as I remember? I think I’ll pick it up when the price goes down.

Loved Daria! I may need to do the same, so I can watch them all in order.
I tried to get through an episode of Legend of the Seeker. I didn’t see what you are seeing. I do, however, totally agree with you about Glee. The first half of the season was so much better. It is still good, but there is something missing. I also love “You Love Is My Drug”, but I could do without “I like your beard”.

Totally in agreement on Glee and have said the same thing on my blog about it. It just seems off, the music seems forced. Like the show is building itself around a song instead of building the songs to reflect what’s happening in the show. Although, Brittany’s lines NEVER fail to crack me up. She’s almost my favorite character on there!
And Dark Victory IS pretty good. not as good as the Long Halloween, but still pretty nice. Enjoy!
HUGS….

I’m also glad Daria came out. I just picked it up at Best Buy since they’re having some sale on it
Can’t wait to go through it this weekend.

1. I don’t think I’ll notice that much. I’ve started watching Emmerdale, which is six half hour episodes per week without a break, so I have a stable base. True Blood, Burn Notice, and Psych will all start airing around the time other shows stop. However, I think I will take a break from watching finished series. I have a backlog of reading to do, and that can be done at the beach.
2. There definitely has been something off. While I still enjoy it, I am disappointed in the sloppy writing. The first half of the season showed that they are capable of doing better. However, the first half was also uneven, so I hope we are just in the sloppy part of the season and things will get better.
3. They’ve been doing a lot better than I expected. They’ve managed to let Chuck be a little more spy-y without losing his underdog status.
4. The only season of Survivor that I watched was the one with Charlie and Marcus. I have been watching The Amazing Race, and was pleased with the outcome of this last season.
5. I’m glad you got me to start watching this again. I’m sad that it was cancelled, but it doesn’t surprise me. Science fiction and fantasy shows can get expensive do to the required special effects and custom sets and costumes.
6. I hope your new interview goes well.
9. I haven’t listened to anything by Ke$ha other than what josh has posted, but I plan to check her out since josh and I have similar tastes (last.fm rates us super compatible).
10. I rewatched the entire series a few years ago and thought that it was still good.
By Chris, May 11, 2010 @ 2:55 pm
1. Yeah Daria!
2. Yeppers Glee is weirdly not as magical, though still good.
3. No iTard No
4. Thank the goat god they’re almost done bastardizing Legend of the Seeker… read the books – so much better.
5. Go Pavarti!

RE:Glee – I think it’s important to remember that some of the episodes from the first half also suffered from the problem of careening from one song to another without the intervening plot making any sense at all.
By Ronda, May 11, 2010 @ 5:04 pm
I love Cara too. Did you see her and her “old friend” the other Mord Sith make out the other day? Nice! I agree with Chris it’s not up to the standards of the books, but it’s still nice to have a goofy, fun, sword-fighting, fantasy-geek show to watch. I miss Xena!

You say randomness, but almost everything you’ve listed is entertainment-oriented. Totally agree on the job hunt thing, though. I keep plugging away at it, though, because the current job has become more soul-sucking than waiting for HR people who never call back.

I am desperately trying to find an excuse to buy an iPad, which if you know me and my history with Apple is a very scary statement indeed. When is father’s day again?
Are there any good Sci-Fi shows still on-air? Is Stargate Universe still around (I kinda drifted away from all things Stargate after two seasons of Atlantis?)
By Tam, May 11, 2010 @ 5:53 pm
Well, I don’t watch much TV regularly, maybe we’re all just fondly remembering a Glee that never was. Like your fist love who was perfect. Or not, what do I know?
I only watch Supernatural and Glee although we are now addicted to “Say Yes to the Dress”. The drama of watching women buy wedding dresses. We are in love with sales agent Keisha and Randy who is … we’re not sure, the token gay guy. There are some real Bridezillas but mostly family members who I would disown if they were mine. This is probably more of a girl show.
Good luck on the job hunt
By Craig, May 11, 2010 @ 6:21 pm
Ryan: You’re right. The first half certainly wasn’t perfect either. It really needs to get better focus sometimes.
Ronda: Yeah, that was great! I’m surprised they went there.

2-3 shows a night? I’m lucky if I can keep up with Glee these last few weeks. With the coming summer hiatus, you should think of other things (or people) you could be doing with all that time.
I keep wondering where Quinn is living, too. I thought it would have been really interesting if she had moved in with Terry and Terry’s sister as nanny to the brat kids – that would have kept the characters in the show.
I’ll miss Legend of the Seeker, too, but I never got in the habit of watching it regularly. I basically watch 3-4 episodes back-to-back every few weeks when I have time. Did you know that Craig Parker (Darken Raal) is openly gay? Why are so many hot guys named Craig?

I hate the part about liking his beard! I ALWAYS skip it.
By josh, May 11, 2010 @ 8:32 pm
I like part about the beard, though I do like the “It’s Saturday night, wanna make out?” SNL Remix better!
AND YAY FOR DARIA! I need to get on that! SO SASSY AND MEAN [feat. insecure thinly veiled confidence that I can relate to!]!

1) Or finishing up your best selling novel.
2) Yes – I’m chalking it up to sophomore slump. And if Will breakdances one more time…
4) Me too – She may be the only hope of getting rid of that troll Russell. Or Sandra – she may be able to pull something off.
6) Good luck on the job hunt. Looking for a job stinks.
9) I don’t mind her singing – but her “talking” at the beginning of “Tik Tok” irritates the hell out of me.
By Chris D., May 11, 2010 @ 10:20 pm
I only watch a handful of shows with my mother. I don’t know how you manage to follow so many series.
Good luck on the job hunt. I may consider getting an iPad when one of five things happen:
1. Central AC installation is cheaper than I expect.
2. I get a raise.
3. The price drops a little.
4. I write, release, and make some money on an iPhone app.
5. I decide I want to target it for an app.
Hopefully I can stick to my principal in this matter as well.
I enjoy that Ke$ha song as well. I like it better than Tik Tok. The end doesn’t bother me, but I think the radio station usually cuts it off anyway. Does your hatred of that line mean that you hate beards!?!?!
By The Ryan with the Cupcake, May 12, 2010 @ 8:53 am
Glee was much more cohesive last night.
By GoKitty, May 12, 2010 @ 9:55 am
Can we discuss Lost on today or is there a future post coming? I dont want to spoil it for anyone who didnt see last night’s episode.
By Craig, May 12, 2010 @ 11:06 am
Yes, Glee was good last night, though I was disappointed with the final number. I love the song, just not their version which almost never happens.
Yes, let’s discuss Lost and all it’s awfulness! So stupid. So he slipped into some cave and came out a smoke monster? What??? And he didn’t seem all that evil to me. Is this all just a game between those two?
By Mark, May 12, 2010 @ 1:12 pm
Ke¢ha, Really? Why not 5¢, what’s wrong with him? And my ex Loved Daria, so naturally, I Hate her.
By Mark, May 12, 2010 @ 1:14 pm
And Good Luck with the job hunt!! I’m sending out good thoughts!
By GoKitty, May 12, 2010 @ 1:37 pm
Craig: Thats what I thought as well too but I started thinking about it. With him being dead at the end, with the awesome Alison Janney, made me think he woke up the smoke monster and was killed. Wasn’t it said in a previous episode that the smoke monster can only assume the form of dead people (like Locke)? I’m considering it might have taken the form of Jacob’s brother who got thrown into the cave with it. What doesn’t make sense with my little theory is that the rules of the brothers not being able to hurt each other still applies, as well as the “dark” brother’s desire to leave the island.
Thoughts?
By GoKitty, May 12, 2010 @ 1:49 pm
Oh, and Glee…
I have not been happy with this season so far. I feel there was too much hype leading up to the second season and everyone trying to turn up the show a notch which usually ruins a show for me. I did like last night’s episode though, although I felt a lot of the songs sounded overproduced. I really enjoyed Kurt’s last number, not the Melloncamp song, with his little tribute to Alexander McQueen. The skull scarf, the combat boots, and the scottish tartan pants, just screamed McQueen to me.
By GoKitty, May 12, 2010 @ 1:58 pm
Okay, I don’t usually post 3 times in a row but I just read the NPH episode of Glee is directed by Joss Whedon! SWOON!
By Craig, May 12, 2010 @ 2:16 pm
Okay, just spoke with my fellow Lost viewing coworkers who clarified for me that the Man in Black entering the light just RELEASED the smoke monster and not that it TURNED HIM INTO the smoke monster. So entering the light is like taking a bite of the apple. I guess that’s better, but still not great.
By TwoPi, May 12, 2010 @ 8:04 pm
(Re: your tweet) Yay Craig! Hope the arithmetic works out, and that it is a position you’ll look forward to every Monday.
Or at least something where the experience will open new doors in a few years, when your dream job is hiring.
By Nick Nifty, May 13, 2010 @ 10:00 am
Ok 1st Craig: Quinn said she’s living at Puck’s (“His parents won’t let me have bacon”) when she told Mercedes to date him so he wouldn’t be around her all the time talking about Mario.
2. I have no doubt that the smoke monster is MIB’s spirit trapped on the island. What happened to him was supposed to be “worse than death” alison janney said and if he just died why’d she say that. What’s worse is that his soul is trapped with all the other spirits (the whispers) on the island. It can take it’s own form because it’s body is dead and it’s spirit is trapped like all the other forms it takes; Jack’s dad, Locke etc. I believe they’re all dead and trapped. Why would Smokey want to leave the Island so bad if he was just generic bad? MIB wanted to leave before he died and now his spirit never can. Worse than death.
By Nick Nifty, May 13, 2010 @ 10:03 am
also, he’s really not evil. he’s resentful for being trapped and he couldn’t help what he became. he hated jacob for doing it to him. jacob did it in retaliation for his killing Alison Janney but hello she killed all his people and their mom? Jacob is just a lame ass who does what he’s told. MIB is a victim, but he will stop at nothing, including blowing up half the losties to have his spirit freed.
By Nick Nifty, May 13, 2010 @ 10:03 am
if smokey was just a generic bad I would lose all respect for lost.
By Pauly Wog, May 13, 2010 @ 12:56 pm
Nick Nifty: I’m glad to see someone else was able to mention her staying at Pucks place. I was hoping I didn’t imagine her saying that. LOL. Hopefully she finds somewhere permenant soon so theres no more jumping everywhere for her and continuity can continue
By Rob, May 20, 2010 @ 4:12 pm
Don’t agree on Glee myself. I think it’s better than ever. But that’s subjective. What isn’t is that they have actually answered where Quinn is living. They said last week that she’s living at Puck’s place.
