1. My parents will be out of the house Saturday and Sunday. Expect a wild Strip Mario tournament at my house Saturday night.

2. I edited my novel for the first time on the train last night using the Pages app on my iPad. I’ve been worried about trying it because I just feared I’d lose it somehow and never get it back, which is ridiculous because I have it saved in about a million places. But it worked out really well! It’s incredible how natural it feels to type on it and I was pleased with how much I was able to get accomplished. The only thing I don’t like is not having a Save button. It saves automatically, and you can email it to yourself, but a simple Save button would make me feel much better.

3. No, I’m not getting the new iPhone. I can’t justify the upgrade to myself just yet. I feel like I need to make two jumps, the way I skipped over the 3G and went straight to the 3GS from the original one. But did any of you guys out there get one? How is it?

4. I’m thoroughly enjoying Catching Fire, the sequel to the amazing Hunger Games. It’s incredible how the author can get me to hate the Capitol so much even when they’re not on the page.

5. I ordered Avatar: The Last Airbender: Complete Book 1 (Collector’s Edition) off of Amazon. I’ve been wanting my own set of the DVDs ever since my brother Adam loaned me his, but they’re pretty expensive so I’ve held off. But this new edition is $10-$20 cheaper than the original edition so I had to pick it up. I assume it’s because of the new movie. I just hope they come out with the other seasons in similar sets too. I hope they don’t stop if the new movie doesn’t do well, or make us wait another two years for the next set just to line it up with the release of the (hopefully!) next movie.

6. Speaking of Avatar, here’s some screenshots of Momo from the upcoming movie. I think he looks great! I just hope they get his personality right.

7. The Princess and the Frog is one of those movies that sticks with me for a few days. Now I’m obsessed with the line “I got news for you, Shadowman: it’s not slime… it’s mucus!” I love running jokes with a great payoff at the end.

8. Damn you Eclipse trailers for making you look like a good movie! I said the same thing about New Moon too. The trailers never showed Kristen Stewart sitting in a chair for three months or screaming in her sleep. Interesting articles with the director don’t help matters either.

9. I watched Tron for the first time the other night. I can respect it for the milestone in special effects it represents, but as a movie it was just awful. It had no story whatsoever to support the special effects and was a downright snoozefest. I loved seeing a young Bruce Boxleitner though and I’m still excited about the sequel.

10. Speaking of Bruce Boxleitner, sometimes I just sit around and memories of Babylon 5 randomly come back to me and I just remember what an amazing show (experience may be a better word for it) that was. “Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else.”

Beware if you’re upgrading your 3GS to iOS 4…everyone seems to be saying it slows the phone to a crawl. It’s possible they’re all just trying to run too many programs simultaneously, but it is a HUGE HEADACHE to restore it back to iPhone OS 3 with a very good chance of losing all your data.

  2. Mel

Agreed on Tron. I love it for it’s symbolic importance (special effects, totally iconic 80′s) but not so much for the plot, which is only barely more fleshed out than a porn movie (Get it? Fleshed out? Porn?).

David recently added Avatar seasons 2 & 3 to our Netflix queue. Who knew he was even interested? He hasn’t seen the first season, though, so I think we need to go back and watch those together.

Hey Craig! I upgraded from 3GS to iPhone 4, and it’s fantastic. Faster, cleaner, brighter, clearer. I was able to sell my old phone on gazelle.com, though, which helped subsidize the $299. I might not have otherwise done the upgrade.

  4. Oz: I upgraded to the iOS 4 and everything seems to be working fine for me. In fact, everything seems to be running smoother and faster even. Maybe I’m just lucky ::knocks on wood::

Mel: He should definitely go back and watch the first season. It’s sets up all the characters wonderfully, especially Zuko.

Ryan: Hey there! So glad to see you still read my blog. But don’t tempt me into spending money I shouldn’t! :-P Glad to hear you like yours though!

  5. HEY!!! Mom and Dad are going to be gone this weekend picking up my kids to stay with them for a couple weeks so no freeky stuff should be going on in that house from now until further notice!!! No naked video game tournaments!!! No Transformer/stuffed animal orgies!!! And keep the cardboard cutout woman sometimes known as your wife in the garage… Let’s pretend to be a normal family for a little while…shall we?!!!

  6. Are your parents going to New York Pride and leaving you behind?

  7. Adam: LOL! Don’t worry, I’ll get everything out of my system saturday night before they arrive. I’m even holding onto Princess and the Frog from Netflix so we can have a slumber party one night. And I got Kung Fu Panda too! I’m such a good wholesome uncle!

Jere: Funny that you say that! For three years in a row they took day trips up to Boston with my aunt and uncle and every year it just HAPPENED to fall on Boston’s pride parade! Hmmm….

  8. 1. Grrrrowl. Didn’t we exchange Mario Cart numbers?

    2. Good to know. Still not completely sold on the iPad.

    3. Doing the same thing. I’ll upgrade the next release.

    4. No comment (but isn’t a “no comment” commenting? Think about it.)

    5. Thanks for reminding me. Must. Order.

    6. Momo! Cameron got passes to see it next Tuesday night and I can’t get out of work. Again. It’s Sting all over again except worse.

    7. Only the devil practices voodoo. Beware!

    8. I’m interested in seeing it, too, because the book was actually enjoyable.

    9. You need to watch it when you’re 7. It’s awesome! But as an adult. Yeah, not so interesting.

    10. You smell nice.

  9. Howard: Yes we did! I’m pretty sure you’re still in my system. We should play. But will you send me pictures of your strip tease when I kick your ass?

  10. So you’re house will be hosting Adam’s little ones? My GOD, they’re not going to be there during the Puntabupoopparty are they? I’m not sure there’s enough therapy in the world to help little kids overcome something like that!

And Tron reminds me of the first Star Trek movie: Plot was sacrificed for all the pretty, neat, and cutting edge special effects.

    HUGS…

  11. Oh god no! I would not subject my darling nieces to you weirdos. :-P

Just Mom and Dad will be scarred.

  12. …but, of course.

LOVED Babylon 5! And miss it too. I’m thinking about upgrading my phone, but an iPhone is too much for me. I just want a phone with a full keyboard for texting. REally looking forward to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I hope it doesn’t suck.

  14. And having just re-read my previous comment, please understand that when i wrote “Puntabupoopparty” I MEANT to write “Puntabupoolparty”. I mean, I love all you guys, dearly, but seriously if you’re having a Poop Party, well, I’m not gonna be there. Even *I* am not THAT kinky.

    HUGS…

  15. I’m not interested in Twilight until Jacob and Edward elope.

  16. iPhonez are so expensive!

IS THERE GONNA STRIP MARIO KART @ DA PUNTABUPOOLFIESTA?! CAN I BE TOAD (AND WIN)?!

  17. Howard has a strip tease?????

Ryan (with cupcake) — I can put you in touch with a whole bunch of tweeps who write Twilight-based fan fiction where Bella is nowhere to be seen and stuff like precisely what you suggested is what happens. Though honestly. Alpaca boy and creepy pasty-faced ginger boy? I’m sorry but the *only* good-looking guys in the Twilight franchise are Emmett and Bella’s dad.

I’m going to see Eclipse. I know it’ll be bad in the same way the others are bad. But I’ll see it anyway.

Tron *was* an awful movie but it was a milestone not just in special effects but in being the very first representation in movie history of a computer as something almost vaguely close to what it actually is. Of course it’s silly to make programs out to be sentient, but having the computer be a place and the programs the people is a lot closer to reality than how computers prior to this had always been portrayed: basically with the computer itself as the person, or brain. And don’t get me started on movies or tv shows portraying computers with smoke coming out of them because somebody fed the computer an unanswerable question. Bleah. I’m sorry, but I’m a very pedantic nerd. Ok I’m not sorry at all. And you all knew this already.

  18. Oh and Craig – mean parents to leave you behind when they take day trips up to my wonderful city!!!
