This Amuses Me

Joss Whedon wrote the introduction to the graphic novel Identity Crisis published by DC Comics, which includes the following snippet:

Mainstream comics (particularly the two titans, DC and that other one) are a universe, one that is as established and often unfathomable as the real one.

Besides writing for X-Men, a Marvel keystone, he’s now set to direct The Avengers movie, which is surely Marvel’s most ambitious film to date. Has he even written for DC?

As for Identity Crisis, it was good, not great. I enjoyed the overall mystery, but the story jumped around a bit too much and included a lot of two bit villains I didn’t know a damn thing about. Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoy learning more about lesser known characters (I keep my phone handy to check out their wikipedia pages) but I felt a few too many were introduced and never really contributed much to the overall story. Still a fun read though.

I would try to answer your question, but I’m too distracted by the way that t-shirt clings to Chris “Thor” Hemsworth’s chest.

I know. It’s hard to figure out what to focus on. Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, or Robert Downey Jr’s awful hair. Jeremy Renner isn’t so bad either.

Mark Ruffalo is usually cute-ish, too, but in this line-up he sorta looks like the guy at the bar you won’t notice until everyone has clearly paired off.

The main villain was Dr. Light (well not really, it was actually the killer, but you know what I mean). Oh and of course Captain Boomerang and Deathstroke were rather important characters as well. But the others, I don’t, I enjoyed seeing all the minor villains, cause really, you don’t see them all that often.

And in the end, the bad guys weren’t all that important to the story. It was more about the heroes actions and the repercussions of them and how they dealt with them.

I thought it was outstanding, but I could see how someone new to the DC Universe might be a bit overwhelmed with all the characters.

    HUGS…

I actually knew Deathstroke, but I knew him as Slade from the awesome Teen Titans cartoon I often consider buying on DVD.

A friend of mine who owns a comic shop said those kinds of stories are used to mention characters that the company owns, but hasn’t used in a certain amount of time. They have to use them or they can lose some licensing of the characters or some such.

Jere’s comment about Mark Ruffalo is the most hilarious thing I’ve read from him ever. :-)

And for me, it’s Chris Evans all the way. I have wanted to have his babies for years. *sigh*
