Things I Learned From and/or About the Puntabugang

August 3, 2010
By

So this weekend was the big Puntabulous Pool Party! People came from all over the country (California! Pennsylvania! Washington DC! New Jersey!) and beyond (Oh, Canada!) for this shindig! Not only was it amazing fun, but it was also quite the learning experience! Here are just a few things my dancing monkeys taught me! Why am I using so many exclamation points?!

Michelle M: Michelle M. taught me that not all California Gurls wear cupcake bras that shoot frosting out of their nipples. Believe me, I checked.

Harry: I learned his name is actually Terry. He also takes offense when you check to see if his wife is wearing a cupcake brassiere.

Tam: Tam taught me that not all non-Americans are terrorists. Just Canadians.

Kristen: I was made aware of the fact that Kristen is the sweetest thing imaginable and incapable of being corrupted by pervy bloggers. Except for Adam. Hence the “We’re up to no good” looks on their faces.

Mikey: I found out that Mikey’s beard is actually an elaborate facial weave made from the fur of baby seals he clubs himself and later dyes with octopus ink. He is capable of growing his own beard, but enjoys the sport of clubbing seals and wrangling octopi.

Adam: I learned that the back of Adam’s knee smells like pink Starbursts.

Enrico: I found out that Enrico is short and speaks in all capital letters. It doesn’t really say A-DORK-ABLE on my shirt, that’s just Enrico’s text bubble.

Josh: I learned that Josh can charm the pants off of anyone but Stephen.

David: I learned that David’s name is most certainly not Stephen.

Chris D.: I found out that Chris D. has got some serious swagger, with the sunglasses and subtle spread of the legs to prove it.

Paul: Paul lives in my town and I found out that he’s the reason why all the local stores are out of stock in pink shorts. He has the whole island’s supply monopolized. ::shakes fist::

Polt: Polt showed me that while he may be wearing a Superman shirt, he has the child-like innocence of Jimmy Olsen. And the vagina of Lois Lane.

Jere: I learned that there isn’t a hat Jere can’t make look good, and a camera he can’t refuse to tongue.

Fdot: I found out that FDot makes really awesome cookies and isn’t offended when you eat so many that you throw up in his shoe when he isn’t looking (even if he’s wearing them at the time).

Justin: Justin taught me that Adam gives great head.

VUBOQ: I learned that parties don’t start till VUBOQ walks in (and brings all the good alcohol).

Nathan: Nathan taught me that American beer is actually just the piss of Canadian beer makers. Also, Canada is better than America in every way possible.

Natalie: I learned — once again — that Natalie Portman, my wife, is a dirty slut.

Mom and Dad: I learned that Mom and Dad are pretty awesome, which admittedly I was already pretty sure of. And my Dad has an unconventionally large head.

Lastly, I’m sure we all already knew, but could always use the reminder that bloggers (and friends and family of bloggers) have no shame:

So yeah, it’s a good thing I’m so smart, or else all this learning would have fried my brain more than the sun did. Seriously, the sun is hot, y’all! Anyway, what a fantastic weekend! I had an amazing time! Thank you to everyone who came! And thank you so much again for the wonderful park bench, graphic novels, and argyle tie!

OMG! It looks like we had so much fun … if only I could remember it. Thanks for throwing such an awesome party!

    *smooches*

  2. john on August 3, 2010 at 7:28 am

My teeth started to hurt with the first photo and by the last I needed to call the dentist!

Sooo cute. Isn’t Kristen the BEST! I was so impressed by her, and her mom too. I love that Harry was wearing his “Puntabulous” shirt.

And for cereal, your parent’s back yard looks like a botanical garden!

  3. Tam on August 3, 2010 at 8:10 am

Great post. We had so much fun. You were a doll for putting up with us all weekend.

His Dad does an amazing job on the yard John. It was gorgeous.

  4. Paul on August 3, 2010 at 8:54 am

    What a great time!
I do want to go back and get the botanical tour of every flower and bush.
Now if you will excuse me I got a tip that the Macy’s at the Smith Haven Mall just got a shipment of pink shorts in so…………..

  5. Adam on August 3, 2010 at 9:09 am

It’s odd that the back of my knees smell like a non-vegan food, isn’t it?! I guess it’s just one of life’s little mysteries.

  6. TwoPi on August 3, 2010 at 9:18 am

So it really is possible for 18 bloggers to be in one place at one time without anyone using their laptop? Impressive!

What I can see of the foliage is beautiful. Craig should do a post featuring more of his backyard (probably with an Evil Bunny tie-in).

  7. Polt on August 3, 2010 at 9:18 am

Of the three things you listed for me, Craiggers, only one actually applies…I’ll let you decide which. :)

Great learning you did that day! So funny, and yet so true! And john, not only is his dad a botanical garden master, he’s also a wizard at the grill! He’s able to cook cheeseburgers to perfection while at the same time making veggieburgers *shudder* palatable…to those who would consume them.

    Aweseome post Craiggers.

    HUGS…

  8. Craig on August 3, 2010 at 9:26 am

VUBOQ: It’s your own fault! You brought the good stuff! I only provided crappy light beer.

John: I know! I can’t believe Harry had a Puntabulous shirt. Paul wore his Evil Bunny shirt the next day too!

Tam: Seriously, it was such a pain dealing with you people all weekend. I need to go on a vegemite purge.

Paul: Be careful what you with for. My Dad’s tours can be very thorough.

Adam: Starbursts are non-vegan?! That’s just cruel. Oh, and I’m still happily working my way through your cookies. And by cookies, I mean cookies.

TwoPi: No, Justin had his laptop handy.

Polt: My Dad had no idea how to cook veggie burgers. I don’t think anyone died yet so we should be in the clear.

  9. john on August 3, 2010 at 10:54 am

Oh Tam: So, who has the strongest accent? I know mine is pretty strong, but I wonder if there were any others that were stronger.

  10. Paul on August 3, 2010 at 11:04 am

John, I think Tam wanted some coffee but she kept getting offered something called “cawfee”

  11. Craig on August 3, 2010 at 11:11 am

I think Polt and Tam agreed that my Mom had the strongest accent.

  12. Avitable on August 3, 2010 at 11:37 am

I wish I could have made it. Are you throwing another one next year?

  13. Craig on August 3, 2010 at 11:45 am

Absolutely. As long as there’s still interest.

  14. Kimi on August 3, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Looks like fun! Love the last pic montage…..Maybe one of these years I’ll make it….

  15. Mel on August 3, 2010 at 12:32 pm

My only consolation is that I got home from a hellish two nights of working to a box full of cookies from FDot. NOM!

  16. Paul on August 3, 2010 at 1:28 pm

Those were soooooo gooood! I think my blood sugar will be back to normal by Labor Day

  17. Mel on August 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm

Craig: Starburts & Skittles have gelatin (aka, dead animal) in them. As do a lot of other sweets. It’s a sneaky kind of evil.

  18. Polt on August 3, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Next year if there’s still interest???? Craiggers, I dare say there’s interest in doing it again this weekend! :)

And FDot’s cookies DO indeed rock, don’t they?

    HUGS….

  19. Polt on August 3, 2010 at 3:32 pm

oh yeah, and Craiggers’ mom’s accent is awesome. And Amanda’s too. Didn’t detect it on Craig himself except when it came time for the “cawfee”.

And just so it’s known, Kristin said to Tam, in my presence, that she didn’t detect and accent from me at all. So there! :)

    HUGS…

  20. john on August 3, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I can say with certainty that Tam & Kristen both noted my accent, which I can’t deny. I did say I needed to go to my “ka” a.k.a. “car”.

  21. Xi_Heather on August 3, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Awww, it makes me smile to see everyone having such a good time at the Puntabupad. Sounds like a fantastic party! :D

  22. FDot on August 3, 2010 at 5:20 pm

I have never had so many people enjoy my cookies all at once.

Craig, I totally didn’t mind you vomiting all up in my shoes, it made the soles really soft and squishy to walk on.

  23. Paul on August 3, 2010 at 6:37 pm

Softer shoes and a thinner me!
    I’m starting this program today!

  24. Justin on August 3, 2010 at 11:30 pm

    Great post, Craig! Hilarious :-)

I didn’t know you had a Boston accent, John!

And @TwoPi — sadly I don’t (currently) have a blog so even though I *did* have my laptop — which along with my camera was socially gauche — I wasn’t using it to blog :P

  25. Jere on August 4, 2010 at 6:25 am

Wait, those were camera I was tonguing? Dammit. Not what I was aiming for.

  26. Mikey on August 4, 2010 at 7:00 am

i don’t know how I missed this post until now!!! I only club baby seals when I’m in the company of Sarah Palin. That woman really knows how to bash the head of a seal

  27. Justin on August 4, 2010 at 8:26 am

Don’t feel bad Jere; it’s not your fault. Adam’s head was in the way!

  28. Adam (Craig's brother) on August 4, 2010 at 8:55 am

LOL!!!! I love the fact that people are talking about Amanda and my mom’s accent… They are both always making fun of other people’s accents including yours truly and my southern born and raised wife and kids. I keep telling them that if they would get off LI for a little while and see the rest of the country they would see who really has the accent.

  29. Paul on August 4, 2010 at 11:17 am

LOL Adam (Craig’s brother),as a Long Guylander who has lived in the south I know the disadvantages of having the accent, and how quickly it drops away to a southern drawl.

  30. HOT Melvin on August 4, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Wish I could have been there! Looks like a great time. Did anyone sleep with eachother?

  31. Justin on August 4, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Sadly no — the rumors of a puntabu-orgy were greatly exaggerated!

  32. Paul on August 4, 2010 at 1:43 pm

These glasses would have made Craig’s hosting duties much easier

  35. Nathan V on August 4, 2010 at 3:55 pm

The beer tasted good! I was just sniggering at the low alcohol content and the fact that you can buy it just about anywhere. When you traipse up to Canada, I’ll feed you some of the beers that I like. :)

And Kristen thought that I had an accent!

  36. Justin on August 4, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Actually, Nathan, you had the least prominent Canadian accent I think I’ve ever heard. Tam’s was ever-so-slightly more noticeable.

And re: traipsing and beer — does this mean you’re hosting the next Puntabumeet? :-)

  37. Paul on August 4, 2010 at 5:09 pm

I picked up on his accent, especially at the beach when he came out of the ocean, must have been the salt water

  38. Justin on August 4, 2010 at 5:15 pm

Hm. Well I have a lot of him on video (to his evident chagrin) — I’ll have to try to actually pay attention to his VOICE when I watch them I guess …. ;-)

  39. Chris D, on August 4, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Thanks again, for an amazing gathering. It was great to see Craig in his native environment. I am currently working on my own pool party post (in my head, just need to export and post it). I didn’t detect any obvious accent in Nathan’s speech pattern. I think Craig’s mother wins the accent contest. Given her accent I am amazed that Craig doesn’t have more of an accent.

John: If you come to the next meet-up, perhaps you will have a change at wining the accent competition.

Craig: I like the new theme. Showing the comment RSS feed link is a great idea. I had been deriving the links manually, and it is a great way to follow the conversation without getting tons of e-mail.
FYI: The commenter info cookie bug is still there.

  40. Enrico on August 4, 2010 at 8:29 pm

    Yay! Stephen!!

AND DIDN’T YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT ABOUT ME????

  41. Justin on August 4, 2010 at 8:33 pm

*I* knew you were short, Enrico, but I didn’t know you were like Altoids: small, white, but curiously-strong.

  42. Michelle M. on August 5, 2010 at 10:11 pm

It was so fantastic to meet everyone. Craig – your family is the best! I hope the next meet up will be a Puntabucruise. Then I’ll have more time to chat with everyone.
And I totally wanted to pack my cupcake bra, but Terry didn’t think it would be a good idea (with your parents and Kristen being there).

Loved the hula cutouts, meeting Natalie and the whole Puntabulous gang table set up!

  43. Justin on August 5, 2010 at 10:30 pm

    “Terry” – lol :)

I vote for a Puntabucruise, too!!!!

All we need is to get somebody filthy rich to join the puntabagang! :D
