What I’m Watching this Fall

Monday:
8:00: Chuck – NBC, 90210 – CW
9:00: The Event – NBC, Gossip Girl – CW

The events of last year’s Chuck season finale made me cry, but also made me really excited for what’s to come. Hopefully they stick with what they do best and focus on great action and comedy rather than forcing a new Chuck/Sarah relationship drama every episode.

The Event is supposed to be crazy. Supposedly whatever the event is, we’re left wondering how there could possibly be a second episode after it happens. I’m leery, but intrigued.

And shut up, 90210 and Gossip Girl are perfectly good guilty pleasures. Hopefully Blair is back to her awesome self after her dreadful year last season.

Tuesday:
8:00: Glee – Fox, No Ordinary Family – ABC

Here’s hoping Glee strikes the same balance of humor, drama, and music it had in the first half of the first season and doesn’t try too hard fitting the story around the songs they want to sing. Of course I’m super excited about the Britney/Brittany episode though!

I haven’t seen a single promo for No Ordinary Family, but people keep talking about it, so I figure I should give it a shot. Besides, what’s not to love about a family of superpowered people?

Wednesday:
8:00: Survivor – CBS, Undercovers – NBC, America’s Next Top Model – CW
9:00: Modern Family – ABC
9:30: Cougar Town – ABC

Wednesday is turning into a busy night! Yes, Survivor is still on, and yes, I still watch it. And the less said about America’s Next Top Model the better. Modern Family and Cougar Town just need to keep doing what they were doing last season and I’ll be happy.

Undercovers is by J.J. Abrams, so as a dork I am legally required to watch it. Fringe was a major disappointment for me (I heard it got better though) but this looks like a lot more fun.

Thursday:
8:00: Vampire Diaries – CW
8:30: 30 Rock – NBC
9:00: The Office – NBC, Grey’s Anatomy – ABC, Nikita – CW

I recorded Vampire Diaries but waited for the longest time before I started watching it, and it turned out to be the best show (not just new show, but all shows) of last season. I haven’t devoured a season with that much pleasure since the first season of Lost. Hopefully they can keep going strong.

I don’t care what anyone says, Grey’s Anatomy is still a fantastic show. The combination of drama and humor is almost always incredible. Lexie and Christina wearing diapers (surgery, NASA style!) last season was genius.

People said the last season of 30 Rock was disappointing, but I still enjoyed it thoroughly. The Office on the other hand was horrendous. Hopefully they step up their game for Steve Carell’s last season. Sadly Parks and Recreation (possibly my favorite NBC comedy) doesn’t come back till mid-season. Should I give Outsourced a try?

Nikita looks so badass and fun. You really gotta give the CW credit for being able to pull off action shows. I still haven’t seen Supernatural, but I’ve heard great things, and like I said, Vampire Diaries is amazing. Plus Maggie Q is ridiculously hot.

Friday:
Nothing – Come back Caprica!

Saturday:
Nothing – R.I.P. Legend of the Seeker

Sunday:
9:00: Family Guy – FOX, Desperate Housewives – ABC

Very rarely do I not get a laugh or two out of Family Guy and last season had some genius episodes, the best being Stewie and Brian traveling through all the different universes. (“Love it.” “Hate it.” “Love it.” “Hate it.”)

People like to make fun of Desperate Housewives, but I still really enjoy it. Yes, the storyline of last season got resolved a little too easily, and Susan is super annoying, but overall it’s still a fun hour of television. Eva Longoria is always fantastic, and the addition of Vanessa Williams this season should be amazing.

What will you be watching this Fall? Am I missing anything?

Hmm. Busy boy you are. Me:

Monday: Top Chef (Kristen’s show but by default I watch and get sucked in against my better judgement)

    Tuesday: Glee

Friday: Supernatural (or whatever night it’s on our Space channel – not sure)

Sunday: Iron Chef (can you see a theme?)

C’est toute. We have seen the odd episode of 30 Rock and thought it was funny but I guess not funny enough to actually make a point of tuning in every week.

There was already a Canadian TV show called Nikita in the 97-2001 so it’s not like it’s a new concept and it will never match the grittiness of the original film. I watched it a few times.

    My fall line up:
    Monday: Nothing
    Tuesday: Nothing
    Wednesday: Nothing
    Thursday: Naruto Shippuden
    Friday: Nothing
    Saturday: Nothing
    Sunday: The Fox line up.

I’m currently watching True Blood, Mad Men and Burn Notice. Burn Notice had their finale last week, True Blood ends on Sunday, I think. Made Men is about half way through theirs I think.

  3. john

Whoops! I forgot, I will watch Glee.

  4. Hmm, well I don’t watch much network TV at all. I may check out The Event, but seriously, it’s gotta grab my interest the first episode, or I’m done. And it can’t be stupidly cheesey (aka V). I’ll still be catching stuff on BBCAmerica though.

Oh and Glee. Yes, I WILL be watching that. And I totally agree with your opinion on it.

    HUGS….

  5. Now, I’ve spent 10 minutes updating my upcoming TV list.

    Monday:
    -Chuck
    -Weeds
    -The Inbetweeners
    -Emmerdale

    Tuesday:
    -Glee
    -Sanctuary
    -Emmerdale

    Wednesday:
    -Emmerdale

    Thursday:
    -30 Rock
    -The Vampire Diaries
    -It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
    -The Big Bang Theory
    -Emmerdale

    Friday:
    -Supernatural
    -Emmerdale

    Saturday:

    Sunday:
    -The Venture Bros.
    -Dexter

That’s actually better than I expected. I was worried that I would have to trim something good to keep up. I guess the networks did that for me :-( .

  6. Chuck has done a good job at keeping me hooked. There have been times when I started to consider dropping to free up time, but they always pick things up and reel me back in.

I just calculated the total time of the shows in my schedule. I can save three hours a week by not watching commercials.

  7. GoKitty

Oh, I luv The Inbetweeners. But I’ve only seen season 1 on BBCA. Are they showing season 3 on BBCA or do you need to have E4 (which I’m not even sure what it is)?

  8. I need to watch It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. People love it. It’s on my netflix queue.

  9. Here’s my list:

Chuck, The Event, Glee, No Ordinary Family, Modern Family, Cougar Town, 30 Rock, The Office, Community, Outsourced, Supernatural, Smallville

    You need to watch Community.

  10. LOL I can’t remember the last time I thought about a TV line-up like this :)

I’ve hardly ever seen *ANY* of these shows, sadly.

    * Chuck — the guy is cute; I’ve seen shirtless caps of him on dreamcaps.org and squarehippies (he’s almost hairy enough for my tastes); never tried to watch the show

    * 90210 — I have a lifetime’s worth of a “TV hangover” from having watched the original incarnation of that show and of Melrose Place … never again, even though I can tell from the ads that this crop of kids is much hotter than the original … still … my brain can only take so much pudding-making before it just sloughs out of my ears … :P

    What’s *The Event* ?

*Gossip Girl* I have heard good things about; never watched it tho

*Glee* I’ve only watched about 1/2 the episodes of; it’s fun; I’m not “hooked” on it per se, but what I’ve seen of it is fun

*No Ordinary Family* I vaguely think I’ve heard of, but … that’s all :)

*Survivor* and *America’s Next Top Model * — I only watch scripted shows; I don’t like “reality” tv

    *Undercovers* I haven’t heard of

*Modern Family* I’ve heard good things about but haven’t seen

*Cougartown* — same deal as Chuck; shirtless caps on Squarehippies is all I’ve seen of that show

*Fringe* of course I heard a lot about, but never saw it; why *was* it a major disappointment, Craig?

*Vampire Diaries* I haven’t watched even though I love Ian Somerhaulder … maybe I’ll catch up on netflix or something if it’s available

*30 Rock* I’ve seen a few episodes of; I’ve had mixed reactions to what I’ve seen … it’s never hooked me

*The Office* — I’ve seen fragments of both the original British version and the American version and of course I think John Krasinski is hot as hell (though he’s awfully stingy about taking his shirt off — very few caps of his hairy chest) but I never got into either

*Grey’s Anatomy* and its spin-off with Tim Daly I’ve caught the occasional fragment of; never was all that interested in watching either

*Legend of the Seeker* — I saw a couple of episodes of this; enjoyed them; didn’t get hooked enough to start TiVo’ing them though

*Family Guy* I KNOW is supposed to be good; never watched more than a few fragments; I was a Simpsons fanatic; I haven’t watched any of the Simpsons since the spring of 2009 though; it stopped being good years ago (and Futurama was never more than sometimes good)

*Desperate Housewives* — what I’ve seen of this show was great; I just have to catch up from the beginning and there’s an *AWFUL LOT* to watch

I’ve seen fragments of *Always Sunny in Philadelphia* too — plus of course some shirtless caps of hairy-chested Glenn Howerton :)

    ***I MISS LOST SO MUCH****

And I can’t wait for Caprica to start up again!!

Polt — are we *SURE* that Supernatural even *IS* coming back? Last season’s finale *COULD* have been a series finale! If it comes back, I’ll be watching it, plus I’ll be turning my brain to pudding with Smallville — GOD KNOWS WHY I KEEP WATCHING THAT SHOW! I guess I am just so fascinated how Tom Welling still can’t act after more than a decade of practice!

    I have

    *Eureka*

    on the HD DVR. And

    *Hung*. And

    *Psych*

which is just ending. I miss

*Monk*. I will watch any good

    *Masterpiece Classic* or *Masterpiece Mystery*

    I am really upset that

*True Blood* is ending on Sunday and won’t be back until June

I watched the first season of *Sanctuary* but have given up on it. I was a huge fan of Amanda Tapping’s from SG1/SG Atlantis but her fake British accent drives me up the wall and even Robin Dunne and Ryan Robbins aren’t enough to get me to go back.

I’ve tried to watch *Warehouse 13* and the guy is hot, but … meh

I find Ryan’s obsession with Emmerdale *QUITE* adorable (just like Ryan himself is) :) I still haven’t watched it, even the gay storyline he pointed me to on youtube. I keep intending to.

*The Inbetweeners* I vaguely seem to remember having heard of …

*Big Bang Theory* I’ve heard of too …

Amazingly, even though I’ve listed hardly anything, I *ALWAYS* seem to be watching TV.

I still haven’t finished the last season of *Doctor Who* — I have 3 eps left.

I still haven’t STARTED this season of *Mad Men* — and ep 1 fell off the DVR and I don’t know if it’s available anywhere except via Torrent.

I’ve heard *Venture Brothers* is awesome. A friend gave me a bunch of episodes to watch on a USB drive and I haven’t seen them yet.

I have no interest in *Dexter* — I don’t even think the actor is cute. In *Six Feet Under* I was always in love with Peter Krause — my love-affair for him (note that he’s the hairy one) goes back to Cybil.

Once I’m done with Hung and Psych and True Blood and have caught up on Mad Men I honestly don’t know what I will be watching other than Supernatural (if it comes back) and Smallville. Maybe I’ll just start making headway against the 500-odd movies in my netflix queue, especially now that I have a brand-new 46″ LCD/LED that can stream movies over the internet. :)

  11. GoKitty: oh the Inbetweeners!!!!! I love them! They constantly crack me up. I’ve had tears laughing and some of the shit they do.

How could I forget about them???

    HUGS…

  12. Justin: Supernatural is coming back on (*checks list*) September 24.

I am enjoying Psych, but it won’t last into the fall TV schedule. I watched the first three seasons of Eureka, but I just couldn’t get into this latest season, so I dropped it like I dropped Gossip Girl last spring. I tried watching Warehouse 13 when it first came out, but I dropped it when I realized that I only watched an episode when it was about to expire from my Hulu queue.

I do enjoy Emmerdale. It is completely different from anything else that I watch.

  13. Tam

Justin: Supernatural has the final season this year. It starts on Sept. 24 I think. Around there.

  14. Andrew J.

OMG! I can’t believe you aren’t watching “Community”! It’s hands down my favorite tv show of last year. And while I’m still a huge 30 Rock fan, I was very disappointed by its last season–but the hilarity and awesomeness of “Community” more than made up for that disappointment.

  15. I watched the first 15 minutes of Community and turned it off. I guess I need to give it another shot if Avitable and Andrew tell me to.

  16. Thanks Ryan (and Tam) — I’m glad Supernatural is coming back. Not sure why I like it so much — honestly neither Jared nor Jensen, as cute as they are, are anything like my type — and it *IS* a CW show, just like Smallville. But somehow I do like it.

I haven’t tried watching Eureka yet this season — it’s probably partly to blame for why I lost ep 1 of Mad Men… :P

  17. I forgot to put Community on my list.

  18. Andrew J.

“Community” grew exponentially as a show, once the chemistry between characters got quickly established and each actor fully inhabited his or her roles. With I think one late season exception, the show just got funnier and funnier.

  19. GoKitty

No Ordinary Family does not look good to me. It has that bald guy I always see in cop series type promos but I never watch the show.

Shows I’m adding to my already abundant tv viewing (3 networked tivos to cover 6 concurrent shows when necessary):

    Boardwalk Empire
    The Event
    Top Chef: Just Desserts

  20. GoKitty

Oh, and Call Center on nbc. I think thats what its called or it should be.

  21. Wow, Craig, you have Friday and Saturday free! Now you can go out clubbing in the city those nights! ;)

I don’t have things nearly as scheduled as you, but here are the shows I intend to watch this year:

Masterpiece Mysteries (PBS) – Inspector Lewis (an old favorite), Wallander (really looking forward to this, will blog about it) and Sherlock (should be fun).

This Old House (PBS) – I’ve been a fan of this program since I was a little kid. I wanted to be a carpenter when I was younger.

Factory Made (Science Channel) – I love to learn how all kinds of random things are made.

Burn Notice (USA) – New season will start in November. I love this show because it reminds me of Magnum PI, which I loved as a kid.

Dr. Who (BBC America) – Not sure when this will be back, hopefully soon. I am warming up to the new Dr., but David Tennant is still my favorite.

Torchwood (BBC America) – Not sure when this will start again, but hopefully this year.

Spartacus – Gods of the Arena (Starz) – Not sure exactly this will start. I really loved the first season. It wasn’t just sex, nudity, and violence, it was grand art! It reminds me a bit of Conan the Barbarian movies, which I enjoyed as a child.

Wow, I watch more TV than I thought. Fortunately most of these programs are limited runs and spread out over the year, so I won’t go too crazy.

  22. Lots of Football games on Sunday and Dexter too. We also watch Man vs. Wild on Wednesday. Bear is a little cutie!

  24. Michelle M.

    Bueller?

  25. I’ll just watch my “The Simple Life” Season 1-5 DVDs till “American Idol” comes back on in Jan/Feb!

  26. My fall line up:
    Monday: Nothing
    Tuesday: Glee
    Wednesday: Nothing
    Thursday: Project Runway
    Friday: Nothing
    Saturday: Nothing
    Sunday: Nothing

I will watch Desperate Housewives eventually. I’m currently on last season still (and have no time to actually watch it and catch up). I loved every season of the show and do feel like it gets crap for no reason. And V. Williams?! YESSSS!!

  27. Kimi

I’m definitely giving Outsourced a try, and I love the Cleveland Show!

  28. Andy McEntee

I love Cougar Town. So under-rated.
Also, starting Friday, Oct 15, there will be something for you to watch. It’s going to premier on NBC and it’s called School Pride. I think it’s going to be a pretty fantastic show!!!
