I started up a Tumblr Blog. I seem incapable of producing blog posts lately, but I do come across stuff and have random thoughts that I want to share. Check it out, follow me, whatever you wish: Puntabulous Tumblr.

So when the former frequent (frequent is the understatement of all understatements) commenter Dave S randomly popped back into our lives, I thought it would be fun to conduct a formal interview with him to find out where he’s been and what he’s been up to. Well, it didn’t turn out that great, and Dave stopped responding after a while (and I didn’t remind him because like I said, this interview wasn’t coming out that great). But I thought I’d share what little I got out of him with anyone who cares (read as: no one). Enjoy! (But you won’t.)
Sorry about the lack of posts this week. Let’s get to the random shizzle!
1. The co-op stuff is going well. Well, I think it’s going well. There really isn’t that much of an update. I submitted the official mortgage application and I’m now working on the co-op board application. It requires a ton of stuff including financial records and professional and personal references. Joy! But so far so good.
2. I watched Wonderfalls for the first time (this actually happened around New Years, that’s how long I haven’t updated). It was a fantastic show and it’s sad that it was so short lived.
3. I also watched the first season of True Blood, which was fantastic. (You don’t know how hard it was not to write fangtastic.) I love the way Bill says Suhhkie.
4. I also watched the last five episodes of Caprica. For a show that I didn’t think needed to exist before it premiered, I was certainly proven wrong. I absolutely loved the entire series and am beyond thrilled with the last five minutes, which helped cement this show as a wonderful little footnote to the Battlestar Galactica universe.
5. After seeing Voyage of the Dawn Treader I went back and reread The Silver Chair and The Last Battle. The books aren’t amazing, but their fun little reads that are good for light train reading. But I hope they get to make The Silver Chair into a movie because nothing would make me happier than to see a drunk Puddleglum on screen.
6. Even though my blogging has dropped off, working on my novel has increased like crazy. Here’s a new blurb I enjoy:
Now I’m sure you could have figured this out on your own, but I’ll tell you anyway, that Nano had never kissed anyone on the lips before. Not only had the situation in which to kiss someone never arisen, but he always thought that kissing was a ridiculous (and undoubtedly unsanitary) thing to do. For the life of him Nano could think of no logical reason to want to press your lips into someone else’s. But now that Nano was doing it himself, he realized it had nothing to do with logic. And it was magnificent.
7. I’m participating in Cocky & Rude’s weight loss competition Biggest Cock & Rudest Loser (don’t ask, I don’t get it either). The first week went okay. I lost a whopping two pounds. But now that all the leftovers from the holidays are finally out of the house, I may do a bit better.
8. I bought the first two seasons of Fringe on DVD with some gift certificates I got for Christmas. I gave up on the show after a few episodes when it first started but now I hear it’s the best science fiction show on television so I’m gonna give it another shot. We’ll see!
9. I’ll be seeing Tron: Legacy this weekend. I saw the first Tron for the first time recently and it was horrid, but this one looks like fun. Or at the very least will be neat to look at. Unfortunately the IMAX theater by me is switching over to The Green Hornet this weekend so I missed my chance to see it in IMAX, but we’ll still get to see it in digital 3D.
10. Ever want something completely illogical? Of course you have. Well for some reason I want one of those small wine refrigerators when I get my own place. I don’t even drink that much wine (I enjoy it, but usually go for beer) but every time I see one at someone’s house I think they are the bees knees. What ridiculous things do you want?
So yesterday I had you guess how much money I had in my coin jug. Here is the product of all my hard work!

And here are the results, drum roll please!

That’s right! All of you guessed UNDER! The actual value came in at a whopping $614.66! That makes everyone’s favorite bottom Polt, the winner! Can you believe it?! When I first started I thought the people who guessed above and beyond $200 were crazy. But man did those quarters build up quick! That’s just enough to pay for my co-op application fee! ::SOBS INTO EARLY MORNING GIN & TONIC::
Thank you to everyone who played! And congratulations Polt for winning a big heaping pile of respect and admiration!*
*No dollar value. May not be exchanged for actual prize.
Trying to buy a co-op is expensive y’all! Please note that I didn’t say buying a co-op is expensive (it is) but even just trying to buy one is expensive too! You wouldn’t believe all the fees I have to pay! Lawyers, engineers, the co-op application! It’s crazy! I need every penny I have! That’s why I’ve finally decided to roll my jug of coins:

I’ve been collecting this bad boy for years. Even if I have change in my pocket, I try not to pay with change, that way I can collect a bunch of coins during the day to contribute to my jug at night. I wanted to see if I could fill it up all the way, but I really need the money, so it’s time to do some counting!
Now don’t think I’m gonna go to one of those lame coinstar machines and let them take a portion of my money! In fact, I kinda love rolling coins so I’m gonna put on some fun music and do it myself. But I want you to try and guess how much is in the jug in the comment section! No, the winner doesn’t get half! Weren’t you paying attention? I need all the money I can get! You just get the wonderful satisfaction of winning! Yay! Isn’t that better than money anyway? Now get guessing!

Have you ever seen a movie where you leave the theater being all like “meh”, and then you see the same movie weeks, months, or years later and you’re like “OMG THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!”? Now I’m not talking about being disappointed by a movie, and then learning to accept its faults later on (for me that’s the sequels to both The Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean). I’m talking about legitimately loving when you see it again. Well I have, and these are some of those movies:
The Matrix: The Matrix came out within the same few weeks as The Phantom Menace and while everyone was going “OMG THE MATRIX IS THE BEST THING EVER!” I was clutching my Jar Jar Binks doll, plugging my ears, and going “LA LA LA MEESA NOT HEARING YOU!” While I had seen The Matrix, I just didn’t care for it. The movie had come out when I was really just starting off with my love of science fiction and for some reason I just couldn’t get past how dark it was. Somehow I managed avoiding seeing it again until three years later (the whole three years telling people how much I hated that movie when it was brought up at parties) when my love of science fiction was fully developed and I was like “OMG COMPUTER HACKER KUNG FU BULLET TIME THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING!”
The Fountain: I was mega excited about this movie. The previews made it look like an action adventure science fiction movie but when I saw it with my Dad we were both perplexed by the talky nature of the whole thing, and the story itself threw me for a complete loop. But there must have been something that stuck with me, because I made it my mission to figure out what the hell I just watched. So I scoured the internet reading every theory there was and when I blended a bunch of theories I liked into one that I loved, I watched the movie again and absolutely loved it.
Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone: When people first started talking about the Harry Potter books, I didn’t take them seriously. In fact, I assumed Harry Potter would wake up at the end of the last book and all that wizarding stuff would be a dream. Can you imagine? When the movie came out, I was working as a cashier at Price Chopper, and a woman I used to work with was so mega excited. (Her and her girlfriend also later showed up to the Attack of the Clones midnight screening wearing Star Whores shirts.) I didn’t rush out to see the movie on opening night like her, but I did see it with my parents after it was out for a few weeks and it was okay. Just. Okay. But then I read the books (I believe at that time there were 4 out) and I fell in love. No fucking way was any of this a dream! I loved it so much that I downloaded a copy of the movie on Kazaa (OMG, remember Kazaa?!) and I was a weeping mess in front of my computer screen. It was incredible.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: I absolutely loved Fellowship of the Ring, but for some reason I just couldn’t get into The Two Towers. I missed the original camaraderie of the fellowship from the first movie and all the relationships that were included within it. Even the massive battle at Helm’s Deep left me kinda meh. I think what threw me off the most with The Two Towers was that it was released only a few months after 9/11 and I just thought it was really insensitive of Hollywood to release a movie with that title. Just kitten. But remember there were seriously rumors they were gonna change the title? No, but really, the thing that threw me off the most was all the new characters they were introducing. Not only introducing, but giving loads of camera time to. Who were these Rohan folk and why are they coming between me and my precious fellowship? But when I saw it again, and later after reading the books and seeing Return of the King I was able to accept that these were main characters that just didn’t happen to get introduced until the second book. And not only was I able to appreciate the movie that much more, but Eowyn and Theoden became some of my favorite characters of the series.
What movies did you not enjoy the first time around but then grew to love?
