Let’s Play a Guessing Game!

Trying to buy a co-op is expensive y’all! Please note that I didn’t say buying a co-op is expensive (it is) but even just trying to buy one is expensive too! You wouldn’t believe all the fees I have to pay! Lawyers, engineers, the co-op application! It’s crazy! I need every penny I have! That’s why I’ve finally decided to roll my jug of coins:

I’ve been collecting this bad boy for years. Even if I have change in my pocket, I try not to pay with change, that way I can collect a bunch of coins during the day to contribute to my jug at night. I wanted to see if I could fill it up all the way, but I really need the money, so it’s time to do some counting!

Now don’t think I’m gonna go to one of those lame coinstar machines and let them take a portion of my money! In fact, I kinda love rolling coins so I’m gonna put on some fun music and do it myself. But I want you to try and guess how much is in the jug in the comment section! No, the winner doesn’t get half! Weren’t you paying attention? I need all the money I can get! You just get the wonderful satisfaction of winning! Yay! Isn’t that better than money anyway? Now get guessing!

  1. I’m guessing $323.27, wishing you all the best on your new place too.

  2. Tam

If you lived in Canada you’d have a lot more because that would be filled with loonies and toonies (one and two dollar coins), but I’m going for $279.43.

    Have fun rolling.

  3. I do the same thing Craiggers, although with a smaller container. When I roll them up, I usually end up with 45-50 bucks at a time. It all goes Plop! right into my money market! YAY!

Anyways, my guess for the money you have is $543.21.

    HUGS….

  4. Tam: I LOVE loonies and toonies! They’re so funny. Cept they weigh the pockets of my pants down. other than that, love ‘em!

    HUGS…

  5. What a waste of time when most machines don’t charge u fees anymore. Blog more instead!! Oh and $278.42! I hope that I win (nothing…)!!!

  6. I like rolling coins too. I’m going to guess $405.63.

  8. I’m guessing $125.78

  9. Michelle M.

    $299.99

  10. I’m going to lowball at $88 :)

  11. Why do you keep your change in the bathroom?

  12. I was going to guess really low, because change is deceptive, but then I realised that’s just Australian change which is really chunky and you have those little flat quarters, four of which take up no space at all. Then I got thinking about volume in that jar and how much space would be taken by pennies and before I knew it ten minutes had passed and I had given it too much thought and gone mad.

    $164.27

  13. The Ryan

I’m putting way to much effort into this.

  14. $167.34 give or take $150 either way.

  15. Michelle M.

$180.70 is Harry’s guess. He took this very seriously – with much thought and a computer program. He even wanted to know how much the jar weighed.

  16. Kimi

it’s hard to tell how big the jar is, but I’ll give it a whirl! $1, Bob! I mean $89.23

  17. The Ryan

The scientist in me is curious about the assumptions that everyone (and by everyone I probably mean Harry) is using.

  18. 175.69 is my guess. I had a few hundred dollars in change saved up. I used a Coinstar machine, because there is no fee to get a gift card. I got an Anazon.com GC and bought a bunch of things I wanted/needed. You are wrapping them by hand?!?!? Your time may be worth more than the money you wrap. You think things are expensive so far? Wait till you get a few mortgage payments under your belt, and they raise taxes and maintenance fees. ;) It will be scary for a bit, then you just get used to it. It feels good to own a place.

  20. Shoot. I wish I had seen this early enough to guess! We had a coin jar about half that size and we counted it up a couple months ago hoping to hit $100 and it ended up being $374!

  21. Dude, I totally rely on the Coinstar machines. The trick is to just pick the gift card option (Amazon, iTunes) and they don’t charge a fee then!

…this doesn’t help at ALL in your situation where you want the cold hard cash, but for future reference. :)

    I’m guessing $201.11

  22. Haha, yeah I lost. Darn reading via RSS! :)
