A Question Only a Mom Could Ask:

May 24, 2011
By

While listening to the Glee version of Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way”:

Mom: How come she’s allowed to say ‘oriental’ and you guys always yelled at me when I did?
Craig: Because she’s Lady Gaga. She can do whatever she wants.

Though I gotta admit, I wondered the same thing when I first heard the song.

My Wish for Glee

May 20, 2011
By

Lately I’ve been wishing Glee would take a note from Ugly Betty (the totally awesome show that everyone loved the first season then forgot about even though it stayed awesome for the remainder of its run) and get better at balancing humor, heart, and the occasional life’s lesson when my favorite reviewer said it way more perfectly than I ever could:

I complained about the preachiness of Kurt’s lines in “Prom Queen,” and later on, I was reminded by others of the fact that Ugly Betty had done the same plot – the gay boy is named prom queen – or homecoming, rather – by bullies. But, on Ugly Betty, the gay character, Justin, doesn’t run off crying before giving a long speech describing his emotions and the precise reasons behind them. Instead, we simply see a shot of him looking terribly hurt – which speaks volumes more than a speech would have – before he instantly brushes himself off, marches right to the stage, and accepts the award, to show the bullies they haven’t gotten to him, even though we know that he is laughing through his pain. It’s not only about being a bit more subtle. It’s also about respecting your audience and their intelligence, and about taking pride in your writing, and that is something that Glee has lost lately.

The writer’s need to stop preaching through Kurt. It’s getting pretty old, and I don’t want to get annoyed by my favorite character. And don’t even get me started on the funeral episode. Yes, I cried, but I felt cheap because I’m so easily manipulated.

Open Letter to The Dalton Academy Warblers

March 16, 2011
By

Dear Dalton Academy Warblers,

I hate you. I hate every scene your stupid group is in. And don’t even get me started on your stupid meetings, with your stupid rules, and your stupid gavel. I mean, seriously? And yeah, your stupid bird is was stupid too.

Thank god Kurt finally pointed out the ridiculousness of the Warblers just being a reason to showcase Blaine’s (undeniable) talent.

“Sometimes I don’t feel like we’re The Warblers. I feel like we’re Blaine and the Pips.”

“I know we need to practice du-wopping behind Blaine while he sings every solo in the medley of Pink songs.”

Okay fine, the Teenage Dream scene was pretty great and I may or may not have watched it a million times on YouTube, but everything after that has been the same stupid thing and has never even come close to reaching the same level of awesomeness as your first appearance. Your A&F models (and token chubby guy) singing and dancing around in silly uniforms has gotten way old.

Please note that my hatred of you as a whole has no impact on my adoration of Kurt and Blaine, and I can’t wait for them to leave you creepy weirdos behind and go back to McKinley High.

Sincerely,
Craig

Wise words from my Mom! In an e-mail exchange between some family members about Glee my Mom says: “I loved the way Kurt was a strong character, very self confident, and could walk down the hallway in a Lady Gaga outfit. And now you have to be kidding! The same with Santana!!!”

Please don’t try to be Sexy, Glee

March 8, 2011
By

I don’t know about you guys, but I pay special attention during the credits of Glee to find out which of the three writers wrote the episode. Ian Brennan writes funny episodes, Ryan Murphy writes beat you over the head with a message episodes or lame tribute episodes, and Brad Falchuk writes heart warming and generally awesome episodes. Brad wrote the amazing episodes Preggers, Sectionals, Dream On, and Grilled Cheesus. The last episode he’s written was the really good Special Education sectional episode. I know! That was so long ago! So when I saw that he wrote tonight’s episode Sexy, I was excited, especially since it also included the return of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Holly Holiday who I loved in The Substitute.

But alas, Sexy was an awful fucking mess. What was the storyline again? Oh right, I have no idea. It’s like when everyone loved Kristin Chenoweth the first time around, they shoehorned her into another episode and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Since when is Kurt such a freakshow when it comes to sex? Didn’t he ask his dad to learn about gay shiz so he could talk to him about it? Now he’s being all ridiculous about the whole notion. And I love me some developments with the Brittany/Santana relationship, but it was just done so freaking poorly and everyone was acting out of character. I get what they’re trying to do with Santana, but there’s no way you can attribute her bitchy (yet awesome) attitude for two seasons just because of that. Lame.

The only highlight last night was the celibacy club’s hysterical rendition of Afternoon Delight and Gwyneth’s Landslide, which was great, though I have no idea how it fit into the storyline.

GTLRS: Gym, Tan, Laundry, Random Stuff

1. I’m going to see my BFF Robin this weekend. She started a new job and moved to Morristown, New Jersey back in November and I’m finally now getting to see her. Yay! Maybe we can find a Ms. Pac-Man machine.

2. Fine, I’ll admit it, Glee was seriously meh this week. I don’t mind when I don’t really know the songs (as opposed to my Mom who hates when she doesn’t know a single song in an episode) but the storyline was completely random. Getting everyone to dress like Rachel and still make fun of her for her awul wardrobe could have been really funny, but it just didn’t come together right. But I don’t care, I still love it.

3. All this while Chuck still waits on my DVR. This season has just been so underwhelming. Aside from the amazing CIA Buy More workers doing gymnastics and some heart-to-hearts between Ellie and her mom, I’m just not feeling it.

4. While watching Grey’s Anatomy last night (which has totally gotten its groove back after a weak start) I was reminded of this awesome Star Wars speech by Bailey to a dorky kid who was dared to climb into a cement truck:

5. I’ve been rewatching the first season fo Teen Titans. I forgot how much I loved that show. The action and humor remind me a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender, though it doesn’t have the epic storyline. They’re like 20 minute bits of happiness.

6. I’m reading The Maze Runner. It’s another dysotopian young adult novel along the lines of The Hunger Games. It’s not as good as The Hunger Games, of course, but the it’s fun, fast paced, and seriously entertaining.

7. Love this comic (click to biggify):

8. I’m quickly losing interest in V. I gave up last season since it was a snoozefest but gave it another shot when I was promised more action and craziness. Well they delivered loads of entertaining ridiculousness the first few episodes, but it’s quickly turned into last season again. The only entertaining bits are with Anna’s mother Diana and only because they are so dang campy. I crack up every time she calls Anna “daughter” for some reason.

9. OMG can you believe Annie’s cousin Emily on 90210? And Blaire and Dan on Gossip Girl? OMG OMG OMG! SQUEE! (I figured I’d combine those two awful items to make it less painful for you.)

10. No news on the mortgage approval. I just want to get this over with so I know one way or the other. And if I get it, I want to move in and get settled and buy furniture and all the crap that needs to get done before I can actually settle into a new place. The wait is agonizing.

A Very Glee Christmas

December 8, 2010
By

I don’t have a post ready for today, so let’s just talk about how simply amazing last night’s episode of Glee was.

Because seriously, it was one of my favorite episodes ever. The Grinch parody with Sue and Becky was absolutely genius. I nearly lost it when Becky was pushing Sue around the bottom of the tree. And I couldn’t have been happier when Brittany came in as Cindy Lou Who. I knew they were going to do a Grinch parody, but I never in a million years thought it would be that perfect. And Bieste continues to add just the right amount of heart to the show, that my heart melts every time she opens her mouth for a heart-to-heart. In my opinion, this wasn’t just a great episode of Glee, but a great Christmas episode of any show period.

What did you guys think?

Glee Fans: Enough with the Auto-Tune Complaints!

December 7, 2010
By

There are plenty of things to complain about when it comes to Glee:

1. Characters who act out of character. (Whoa, trippy!)

2. Storylines that come and go faster than me. Artie and Puck are best friends now? Oh really?

3. Kurt’s Dad, Finn, and even Finn’s Mom giving speeches about how amazing Saint Kurt is at the wedding. If I were Finn, I’d be pissed!

4. Don’t these kids ever go to class?

5. Why does Glee meet in the middle of the school day?

6. Bullying as a punchline (rightfully so, since it is a comedy after all!), except when it’s against Kurt, then it’s deadly serious. “I’LL KILL YOU!”

7. How come Sam isn’t the Navi-spewing dorky jock he started out as?

8. How did Kurt transfer schools so quickly?

9. Blaine and the Warblers being all creepy “Be yourself, BUT FIT IN!!!” Children of the Corn people.

10. A TIE?!?!?!

But the one thing I’m so tired of hearing people complain about it auto-tune. Seriously, enough people! It’s like auto-tune suddenly became the new buzz word for Glee haters. It’s freaking pop music! Pop stars work on their albums for months and they still auto-tune the shizz out of them.

Glee needs to crank out these episodes like crazy, so excuse them for trying to make things easier with a little auto-tune. Show me a pop song or a modern movie musical that isn’t auto-tuned. Besides, these kids need to be act, dance, and be hot, so the argument that they should just pick better singers goes out the window.

It doesn’t help matters that people who complain about the auto-tune act as if the singers sound like robots, which is completely not the case. OMG THIS IS AUTO-TUNED WITHIN AN INCH OF ITS LIFE!!! Really? Since when did everyone become such music connoisseurs?

So how about we just drop it okay? Thanks. Or if you’re one of those auto-tuned Glee haters, please explain yourself properly in the comments.

Really!?! with Puntabulous – Dijon Talton Edition

September 29, 2010
By

In today’s edition of Really!?! with Puntabulous, we take a look at the IMDB message board for actor Dijon Talton, otherwise known as Matt, otherwise known as Shaft, otherwise known as Black Kid from the first season of Glee. When he mysteriously transferred schools over the summer and wasn’t in the first episode of season 2, I checked out his IMDB page to see if there was any explanation. Was it his choice? Or the producers? Granted, he had about two lines in the entire first season, I wanted to see if there was any other information about his disappearance. His credits show that a movie he was in is in post-production. But other than that, there was nothing. So I checked out the message boards and oh the magical stuff you can find! I hit the motherload when I came across the thread titled GLEE!!!!!!!! =(

How can he be out of Glee!!!!!!! Even though he had only 2 lines, he was my favorite character. He and Mike are excellent dancers and one of the only reasons I watched this show! Dijon Talton is the best.

He was your favorite character?! Really!?! One of the only reasons you watched the show? Really!?!

Yea, i liked Matt too! I’m sad that he’ll no longer be on Glee. I’ll miss him.

You’ll miss him?! Really!?!

I’m stunned – He was so cute and sweet…And, he was quite a popular character, I thought, anyway…

Quite a popular character?! Really!?!

Hopefully he transfers back 2nd semester or something cause he missed glee club!!

Transferred out then transfers back because he missed glee club?! Really!?! “Hey mom and dad, I know we moved over the summer, but I sure do miss singing [note: singing has not been confirmed] and dancing with those dorks at my old high school! Can we pack up all our things and move back? I hear there’s a nice vacant crack house for sale!” Really!?! REALLY!?!
