GTLRS: Gym, Tan, Laundry, Random Stuff

1. I’m going to see my BFF Robin this weekend. She started a new job and moved to Morristown, New Jersey back in November and I’m finally now getting to see her. Yay! Maybe we can find a Ms. Pac-Man machine.

2. Fine, I’ll admit it, Glee was seriously meh this week. I don’t mind when I don’t really know the songs (as opposed to my Mom who hates when she doesn’t know a single song in an episode) but the storyline was completely random. Getting everyone to dress like Rachel and still make fun of her for her awul wardrobe could have been really funny, but it just didn’t come together right. But I don’t care, I still love it.

3. All this while Chuck still waits on my DVR. This season has just been so underwhelming. Aside from the amazing CIA Buy More workers doing gymnastics and some heart-to-hearts between Ellie and her mom, I’m just not feeling it.

4. While watching Grey’s Anatomy last night (which has totally gotten its groove back after a weak start) I was reminded of this awesome Star Wars speech by Bailey to a dorky kid who was dared to climb into a cement truck:

5. I’ve been rewatching the first season fo Teen Titans. I forgot how much I loved that show. The action and humor remind me a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender, though it doesn’t have the epic storyline. They’re like 20 minute bits of happiness.

6. I’m reading The Maze Runner. It’s another dysotopian young adult novel along the lines of The Hunger Games. It’s not as good as The Hunger Games, of course, but the it’s fun, fast paced, and seriously entertaining.

7. Love this comic (click to biggify):

8. I’m quickly losing interest in V. I gave up last season since it was a snoozefest but gave it another shot when I was promised more action and craziness. Well they delivered loads of entertaining ridiculousness the first few episodes, but it’s quickly turned into last season again. The only entertaining bits are with Anna’s mother Diana and only because they are so dang campy. I crack up every time she calls Anna “daughter” for some reason.

9. OMG can you believe Annie’s cousin Emily on 90210? And Blaire and Dan on Gossip Girl? OMG OMG OMG! SQUEE! (I figured I’d combine those two awful items to make it less painful for you.)

10. No news on the mortgage approval. I just want to get this over with so I know one way or the other. And if I get it, I want to move in and get settled and buy furniture and all the crap that needs to get done before I can actually settle into a new place. The wait is agonizing.

Our Trip to Providence

September 28, 2010

Alright, I know these are super late, but better late than never right? Right? (CRICKETS) Oh well. Anyway, me and Robin went to Providence, Rhode Island a few weeks ago. We went up on Friday and met John, who was kind enough to take us out to dinner. John was just as nice and fun as you would expect. We actually forgot to take a picture together, but here is an artist’s rendering of the evening:

The next day we strolled casually around the city of Providence:

Then we went to the Rhode Island School of Design museum. The main museum was closed, but we were able to go to the student section:

Then we found this:

And entertained ourselves for hours and hours and hours:

Our friend Brian met us that evening and our first order of business was to go to this restaurant that me and Robin passed the day before where they had these 100 oz drinks, which required a minimum of three people to order. And it was glorious.

Every few weeks during the summer, the city of Providence lights a series of a hundred fires down the river that runs through Providence. It’s a beautiful sight and they play music and you feel like you’re in some fancy schmancy city over in Europe.

Robin got these magnificent bunny ears:

And here the three of us are. Who took the picture you ask? Let’s back up a bit. When we were at the restaurant earlier, we were sitting outside and this guy asked if he could join us. Um, okay. So he joined us and proceeded to talk and talk and talk. He was a bit younger than us, but he was nice enough so it wasn’t that big of a deal. But then he asked what we were doing that night and asked if he could join us. Um, okay. So he walked around Water Fire with us. Clearly we put him to work and made him take our picture. We wondered how we were going to get rid of him, but then OUT OF NOWHERE he found this other group of friends, and was like “Bye guys!” and then we cried and cried and cried. Because WE were supposed to break up with HIM, not the other way around. The nerve!

Then when we were tired of being sophisticated, we went and played Ms. Pac-Man. Here’s Brian whispering sweet nothings into Robin’s ear:

Here’s Brian being a goober:

And then a super goober:

When he was supposed to be taking this picture:

THE END. Yay Providence!

I Kissed Random Stuff and Thought it was Tolerable

1. My parents are going away for a few days today. My sister Amanda is going away with them and I’m left with the task of dogsitting Ralphie. This could work to my advantage though if I’m able to use Ralphie to distract my opponents during Strip Mario Kart.

2. Celebrities I’ve had enough of: Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Katy Perry, and Zach Galifianakis.

3. I saw The Expendables this past weekend. The story was a bit of a mess, but the action was a fantastic throwback to 80′s action movies with old school stunts without computer effects. The last 45 minute action sequence was awesome and ridiculous amounts of blood fun.

4. I still need to see Scott Pilgrim. I fear I am running out of time.

5. I watched the first season of Carnivale (in about a day) and started the second last night. You’ll get my full review when I’m done, but it’s incredible. I’m sad it only got two seasons and will be fairly miserable when I’m left hanging at the end of season 2.

6. Next show after Carnivale? Wonderfalls.

7. How is this not photoshopped? Holy Carp Crap!

8. Who are we liking on Project Runway this season? I’ve really enjoyed Christopher’s designs even though the judges seem to be a bit off kilter this season. Gretchen and Ivy are awful people, though I have to agree with them about Michael’s lackluster designs. Why do the judges love him so much? And I love that the extra half hour lets us see more trash talking behind the scenes. Also, how awesome is Tim Gunn? I mean, like, more awesome than usual!

9. The new Conan show starts on my birthday. What a lovely present! I may have to postpone what would positively be a ridiculous night out full of shenanigans and debauchery to watch it.

10. I’m not sure if I’ll get around to doing a full Providence post, but I had a blast! Me and Robin went up Friday, had a wonderful dinner with dancing monkey John, who’s human costume was quite remarkable. I would have been completely fooled had I not gotten whiffs of carrot every time he said an H word. But bunny or not, he was just as awesome and nice as you would expect. Then our friend Brian met us the next day for Water-Fire and even more Ms. Pac-Man. All in all it was a really fun weekend and it was great to get away for a few days!

Ten Years Later…

It’s a little known fact that me and my friend Robin are Olympic level Ms. Pac-Man players. We honed our skills in college when there was a Ms. Pac-Man machine in our dining hall, and it’s been magic ever since. Here we are ten years ago:

And when we stumbled upon hunted down a Ms. Pac-Man machine when we were in Providence, RI this weekend, we had to hold a reenactment, not too unlike Civil War reenactments in all their splendor and magnificence:

Here’s to ten years of Pac-awesomeness and tens and tens more.
